There was a time when treason was punishable by Death.

Shredder and Krang combined had the biggest arsenal of any villains in all of the cartoons.

I don't really care about this either way, but... if you're clocking on to do a job (and these guys are), how much Freedom of Speech are you really guaranteed during your working shift? In any job? If I get hired to do a job, and every day at 8:30 AM, I'm supposed to stand in the break room with all of the other employees and recite pages from the Employee Handbook as part of the job details... can I just say "No, I'm not going to do that, I'm going to stare at the ceiling and hum the theme to 'Lassi' instead because that's what I want to do"? I think not. I don't think football players should be allowed to be special.

Of course they have to make them stand, the Military isn't paying them to advertise dissent.

My hope is that every player stays off the field.
As for me, I'll be finding new homes for my Pat's stuff.

You're alright, you.

Spoiled millionaires can whine about their politics on Facebook and Twitter on their own time, like everybody else. People who work real jobs can and do get fired every day for espousing political views that are contradictory to those of the company paying them. Right or wrong, that behavior causes a conflict of interest that puts the company in an unenviable position, and most companies are liable to shareholders.

In ANY job, ANYwhere, you're expected to toe a certain line in order to continue collecting a paycheck. There are written AND unwritten policies of behavior, at ANY job, period. You don't follow them, you take a walk.

Adding in the fact that, statistically, if most of these guys weren't playing sportsball, they'd be in jail or otherwise not doing so great, they'd probably be best off focusing on what they're being paid to do, and share Personal Opinions on Personal Time.

Of course, the dirty truth is, it's really more about attention on themselves than it is about any cause or belief. That's why they INSIST upon making a big spectacle out of waving their "beliefs" like a flag in the first place.

Either way, there's wisdom in the saying, "Don't sh*t where you eat." Maybe they could stick that in their playbook.

What I love is that the NFL went and made THIS a priority.
Not the traumatic brain injuries.
Not the fact that they employ rapists, abusers, and murders.

This.
One dude taking a knee during a song that his bosses get paid to play by the Military.

Their job is to play football.
This isn't playing football.

Hey, on this I agree.

Personally, football is an item of disgust, for me. Between the fact that it's literally a meat grinder that leaves people brain dead and half-crippled before middle age, and the fact that a good percentage of the participants are violent criminals who couldn't even fit into society at all if they couldn't throw far or run fast, and will ALWAYS be excused from even the worst wrongdoings based solely on their athletic ability rather than their value as a human being (or lack thereof), but it's this huge point of obsession with people... it just really bothers me and always has.

It always upset me whenever people glorify what is, in truth, the worst parts of humanity. And that's what football is, and what its fans are about. "I don't care if he's a rapist, he's great on the field!" Or, "I don't care if he killed all those dogs," or even, "I don't care if these guys' brains are turning to soggy Corn Flakes, so long as I'm drunk and entertained!"

I run into an uncomfortable amount of football fans who will openly declare, "I don't even CARE if O.J. did it. He was the best!" Like, okay, this is no longer "a game", it's a cult that worships the absolute worst of humanity, putting them on a pedestal like kings.

People are lucky I'm not in charge; I'd shut the whole thing down. Dead serious.

Oh man, I agree on the priorities being unorganized.

The majority of these players are absolutely going to die from brain-related trauma, if disease or accidents get to them first. The players safety on the field should be the first and foremost priority, no if ands or buts. Even playing in middle school or high school will cause some brain damage. Those of them that are parents have sworn to never let their own kids play because of the injuries they've sustained.

Fvck football and its entire culture (and being part of why state universities are so expensive).

Yeah it’s easier to control what your employees do at work than it is to control their private life. But when private life interferes with work then alot of employers offer programs and second chances.

I used to work with the Rutgers Materiel Services crew, setting up and moving offices and dorms and such, all over their NJ campuses.

That stadium they bought a few years back was NOT a popular decision among Rutgers staff and employees. To say the least.

Basements flooding, stairwells crumbling, departments being downsized... let's just piss a ton of money away on something we technically already have, but BIGGER and FLASHIER!

Yeah, it's all a crock of sh*t. No priorities.

This is the Second Chance. They had all last season to get it all out of their system. Time to suck it up and move on.

I have to laugh, because my alma mater is a hockey school, to the point where my 2nd year in they up and cancelled the football program entirely, so that they could funnel more money into men's hockey.

Those entitled pricks got pretty much what ever they wanted on campus, and I lived next door to the captain of the team my junior year.
Which was also the year I shared a dorm room with a fetish dancer.

5'10" without her 6" stilettos.
Believe you me, when she went next door to ask them to lower the music because it was too loud...they heeled.

A racist, white institution silences the expressions/voices of people of color.

Nothing new. Tragic, but not surprisingly so.

What a ****ing joke, yup problem solved

Wouldn't it be better to just stop playing the national anthem and get to it with the sweaty men playing safety rugby? It's so tacky to begin with anyway.

I never understood why Americans didn't just decide to play rugby. They didn't even have to change a lot of rules. Pretty sure New Zealand plays a slightly different version of rugby from most countries and yet still plays rugby.

Seriously, people enjoy a violent and dangerous sport played by super jacked dudes like this with lots of stoppage time for commercials? How is it more popular than basketball, for example?

American football sounds like It'd be a good sport if it was played by robots or aliens who can't feel pain, but actual flesh and bone people?
