He still looks a million times better than that design you posted, so not sure what point you're trying to make.

That old design was from the Beauty and the Best TV Show from the 80s, When the Beast looked like a Lionman.

I'm sure we'll get another stateside release of the blu-ray of the original movie as an awareness raiser, like how they re-released "Sleeping Beauty" when "Maleficent" came out.

Hmm....it's pretty cool they're turning Disney movies live action. My favorite was Aladdin. I'd really like to see that live action. Couldn't be that hard either...desert setting and a cgi genie.

Lion King would interesting.

The Lion King would be hard, since all the characters are quadropeds, For that to work, They have to be anthropomorphized and be CGI characters, In fact, the whole film would be CGI if they did it.

I really do not think they'd need to be anthropomorphized.

There's no humans in the movie anyway. Having lions and the other animals able to talk among themselves would be fine. Real life animals communicate with each other. The "talking" would just be for the sake of understanding the movie.

Look at Finding Nemo. It's animated but it takes place in the real world. I mean humans are there and everything is normal.

Personally, I'm disenchanted by Disney's "let's take our older animated movies and recycle them from a different character's point of view" assembly line output as of late. Beauty and the Beast. Cinderella. Dumbo. Alice In Wonderland. I'd much rather them take an original idea and nurture and water it than retread former glories. I don't know. It just feels uninspired and lazy. I do love the Beauty and the Beast story, but for me nothing will ever top Jean Cocteau's version (which Disney borrowed heavily from for their animated take). With that in mind, a foreign remake of Cocteau's film was already released last year (this time around with a CGI face for the beast... though the prosthetics of the original film conveyed more emotion):

As long as the Beast looks like a feline.

Something like this.

Ah, the original B&tB TV series! Loved that one- brings back some memories. Vincent was a great character- and just as interesting in the recent re-boot of the series.

Considering that design was done entirely with prosthetics back in the 80's, I'd say it looks pretty good, even now. Obviously, they would update it for today's audiences, but the basic concept of that character design is sound.

Ah, so someone else remembers the series! Cool. I remember watching it when I was a kid- and my mom had a mild crush on Vincent....

I never really watched the show completely, I think I remember seeing bits of it back in the days, I just wasn't into the whole Beauty and the Beast thing, I only remember it cause the Beast character looks like a Lion and was played by Ron Perlman

OMG, I had forgotten that! Wow, no wonder I've always liked Ron- I must've remembered seeing him in the show but forgot his name. That, and he was awesome as Hellboy....

Josh Gad, who voiced Olaf in Frozen, is playing LeFou.

Emma Thompson will be playing Mrs. Potts and Kevin Kline, who previously voiced Captain Phobeus in another one of Alan Menken's films, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, has been cast as Maurice.

Rick Baker designed that make-up. His brief was to make a character that was definitely a beast, but not repulsive; an attractive monster if you will. He decided to make it feline because people are attracted to cats, and it worked. He made Ron Pearlman a sex symbol for Pete's sake... Ron Pearlman!

Also, Luke Evans as Gaston... GTFO! That was a role the Rock was born to play.

I gotta admit, I'm very curious to see how this turns out. As much as I love Emma Watson, I'm really anxious to see who plays Lumiere, Cogsworth and Chip.

Stanley Tucci has been cast as an eeeeeeeevil Grand Piano named... Cadenza (Disney is trying to lure in Bronies apparantly). Now they're saying he's a new character. Which is kinda true. Unless it turns out he's related to the eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeevil Pipe Organ from Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas.

Alan Menken, the original film's composer was at Lincoln Center in New York today. He said that he and Tim Rice have written three new songs for the film. One of them will be called "Forever More", which is sung by the Beast when he realizes what love is. Another song is called "Days In The Sun" - a lullaby sung by the objects as they are going to sleep remembering their lives before the spell. In this article, there is a video and Menken discusses the project from around 53:11 to 54:29.

The main reason I am interested in this movie is because of Emma Watson. Though I have to say the cast in this one is much more recognizable then the past live action Disney movies.

Considering how much the Disney version borrowed from the 1946 La Belle et la BÍte by Jean Cocteau, it would have been pretty snazzy if they used the original Beast designs Cocteau had intended for the Beast to look like.

But, I'd imagine they are gonna live-action up the animated design, which is a pretty good design.
