I liked Book of Life a little bit. If only just for the fact that it it switched gears from being a man going to hell and back for the woman he loved, to gods in an estranged marriage making a bet on the love lives of children.
And really, Xibalba and La Muerta are the best part of the movie besides the style. And the plethora of lore Jorge R. Gutierrez has revealed about them on Twitter. As well as the Word of God that it takes place in the same universe as El Tigre - one of their daughters is the main antagonist of El Tigre and was the "difficult" child.

From what we've seen, this doesn't feel like a Pixar movie at all, really. Anyone else feel like Pixar is going through that stage that Disney went through in the early 2000's with their movies? With the exception of Inside Out, every Pixar movie hasn't been great or a real big "Pixar movie", if you know what I mean. Cars 2, Brave, Monsters University and Finding Dory, were all disappointing to me and not even worth rewatching...and their next movie, Cars 3, doesn't look any more promising. I can only hope this will be better, but for some reason it feels like a Dreamworks movie that's trying to be a Disney movie just based on the trailer.
The only thing I'm slightly looking forward to from Pixar is The Incredibles 2. And don't even get me started on Toy Story 4... EDIT: Oh, and the Good Dinosaur. That movie was so forgettable. Last edited by Donatello19; 06-10-2017 at 12:20 PM. |

I love Brave, Inside out was good, Monsters University was fun but should have been a sequel, not a prequel. Never liked Cars or Finding Nemo or care about their sequels.

Pixar has certainly done it again. Coco was not only a visual treat, but it had plenty of heart as well. I also thought the opening narrative was quite clever and very well-animated. The message of family was done exceptionally well in the film. It's really nice that both this movie and Moana have amazing elderly relatives of the main characters.

Eh, I'm still not feeling this movie. I usually watch Disney/Pixar movie all the time but this one...I picked to watch Justice League again at the theater.

Thought Coco was pretty damn good. Not top tier Pixar but really solid and better than anything else from Pixar the past 6-7 years except Inside Out.
For those that have seen both, how did this compare to Book of Life? I'm assuming Coco was different enough to continue with it after BoL was released. |

The movie was a big success in Mexico and well received, it premiered just before Dia De Muertos

I saw it today, is is good, but not on the top tier for me.
The only similarities it has to The Book of Life is that they both are related to the same holiday and the importance of family. |

Welp I suddenly have the urge to watch this movie today and... wow, I didn't think it would have an impact to me but it did. There's a heartfelt scene at the end that got me teary eyed too surprisingly. Another gem among the Disney film, I was so wrong to dismiss it earlier. Glad I did check this one out.
And the Frozen short was fine, those people complaining about it are crazy boring adults tbh. An 8.8/10 tbh. Such a beautiful movie and the music is amazing too. Hope this movie will do well globally.

Super glad Coco won best animated picture. 100% deserved. But ugh, kinda disappointed "Remember Me" won best song. It really only has one verse that just gets repeated over and over and over. It worked perfect for the movie, but far from a great stand alone song. "This Is Me" should have won, IMO.
