It is customary for Manga to start a new chapter with a page in full color but there's also another reason why I did this.

I want to include one of my favorite tropes of the original series: which is for the Turtles to watch a cartoon series on TV which is a wink to well known Cartoon series.


So here we have "Gator Tooth Sphere" which is a hybrid between "Dragon Ball" and "Avatar the Last Airbender" and true to form, I included a lot of pun names.

- Prince Oohrahn from planet Youteng.
I guess that explains itself: Orangutan.
He's basically Vegeta and Prince Zuko combined into one person. But as a joke, he wears Son Goku's colors. Seeing as how Vegeta started out a space pirate who conquered worlds and as a reference to Zuko's scarred face, I gave him an eye patch.

- Mahalo or to use his Megapteran name Cachalot
Is the combination of Son Goku and Avatar Aang.
"Mahalo" is Hawaiian for "Thank you" while "Cachalot" in addition to sounding like "Kakkarot" is a Sperm whale. I had been breaking my head over what to do with Aang's arrow tattoo, since that is a very recognizable part of his look. How would I adapt that? And all of a sudden I had it: I would place twin arrow Tattoos on both sides of his head.

- King Orcinus.
Orcinus Orca is the Latin name for a killer whale.

Time to resume this story, I'm sorry it took me a while but I had a case of writer's block.

I admit that it isn't the best page I drew but sometimes, it's all that's needed to get back into the game.

So what is Donatello planning?

Okay, there were some issues with making this page, since I used the wrong kind of paper, as it actually began to chip away when I erased my pencil lines, which accounts for the rough look of the outlines.

But here's the reason why Donnie was blushing in the first page of the story when his new Mutant was ready.

What we have here is a composition of two failed pages, you can actually see it in the shade of the paper.

Mikey and Casey are still watching "Gator Tooth Sphere" our Dragon Ball Z and Avatar the Last airbender hybrid. I guess everybody will recognize the scene, it comes from "The boy in the iceberg" Aang wakes up and asks Katara if she wants to go penguin sledding with him.

Negen is Katara and Tenshinhan put together into one person. The name "Negen" is an impossible to translate word joke here. Tenshinhan's American name is "Tien" and the word "Tien" in the Dutch language means "Ten". "Negen" is the Dutch word for "Nine"


Time to introduce my own character in this story.


If her outfit resembles the one from the 2003 series Karai, that was on purpose.

Michelangelo is the naming guy and let NOBODY forget it!

Michelangelo prides himself for coming up with the greatest names:
- Dogpound
- Fishface
- Rocksteady
- Bebop

To name but a few.

So what about our Cockroach girl, what does she think of the name he gave her?

Been meaning to get back to this for a while.

Gathortooth Sphere looks really fun, I wouldn't mind seeing more pages about it.

Not sure whether to be scared for Roachella because she pissed off Mikey really bad, or be scared for Mikey because he's about to fight a mutant of an animal that's said to be able to survive a nuclear apocalypse

I like the concept of Roachella, a mutant whom can mind control an entire army of cockroaches. That is nothing short of terrifying and I'm sure it will give the Kraang an obstacle to overcome, if not a thorough run for their money.

I do feel that the turtles are not grasping the severity of the situation fuly though, with the Kraang now having literally millions of mutants on their side, but that might be intentional on your part in order to give the turtles a harsh wake up call as the story progresses.

I'd be curious to see if you make Leo fully human in this, since that was briefly mentioned. We all know its so that he can have kids with Karai

A small note, I love the way your art style looks in color. It stood out much more than the black and white panels which aren't bad by any means, but the cartoon art style I think goes better with color panels even though they are understandably much harder to make.

Okay, so once again I started a new chapter with a full color page.



And once again I had a field day with the Easter eggs here.
- CLAM TV is obvious: MTV, it even sounds similar.
- Total Live Request is the long running MTV show Total Request Live. I even parodied their logo but with the R and the L switched around.
- The Billboard opposite the MTV building in Times Square sits above a Foot Locker store. I depicted it how it is in real life but made it "Boot Rocker" instead.
- Carlton Bailey, that one is obvious, it's Carson Daly, I worked with pictures to get his look right.
- In the first panel, there's a Daria logo, since I made a lot of Daria fan art and comics and it's what I'm best known for.
- The Wild Romance is a real band, albeit one who never broke big in America.

Thank you, the backgrounds are actualy the least favorite part of the whole process but once I've done them, they indeed complete the look of the panel.

The large panel where Leo and Karai are in Shredder's throne room of my latest three pages is a good example where I sketched out the background before adding the two of them in there.

But sometimes, just adding a texture is enough when I can't think of anything I could draw as a background.
