Easter 2018

I create this thread for Easter 2018 to discuss, no matter if you go to church, crack eggs, dres up as an Easter witch, eat candy, use Easter firecracker, write Easter cards, or watch "The Turtles and the Hare" and "Once upon a Time Machine".

I will be indulging in chocolate eggs
Edit: I don't celebrate it otherwise though.

Meh Easter is not something I care for, really. When I was younger I loved Easter because it meant two weeks without school. That's all.

You mean Ostera? Sure, I did that already on the 21st. Spring Equinox (aka Ostera) is the holiday that was appropriated as "Easter" to celebrate the "resurrection" (actually rebirth) of the Son/Sun as a spring sowing and birthing celebration. I usually use it to give thanks for the new flowers and animals being born/growing, the rain that gives them life, and the warmer weather that ends the death-grip of winter. Spring is my favorite season, because it is so alive!

Haven't celebrated in yeeeeeeeeeears. Was always fun as a kid, though.

I ought to watch that TMNT special, if I can remember to. Been a while.

I've bought a a few easter candies. So far the Russell Stover strawberry easter bunnies were probably the best I've gotten into before the store ran of them. The cookies & cream and peanut butter bunnies are alright. The smaller packages are usually sold under a $1 over here. I've gotten a couple of Cabury eggs as well.

As for the actual day? It depends if my Dad will be home from his job-site in California, and if we'll get together. Otherwise, it might be just another day.

Sort of; depends on what aspect of Easter your talking about. There is evidence that the Christian holiday was celebrated as early as 2 AD, which is 41 years before Rome invaded Britain. The eggs and rabbits probably did originate as pagan fertility symbols, but the date has more to do with Passover than the Equinox.

It's only known as Easter in the English and German speaking world - the rest of Europe uses a derivation of the Latin name Pascha, which was the Romans' interpretation of the Hebrew word for Passover. Easter falls shortly after Passover on the lunar calendar.

But yeah, eggs and rabbits which have no roots in Christianity as far as I know.

During holidays, people have always had time for fun and playing games. That had led to the creation of a lot of traditions who came later, and aren't related to goting to church.

I just got done making fried meatballs, as my contribution to lunch tomorrow at my great aunt's place.

They'll have to be baked up a little bit so they can be crispy after sitting in the fridge overnight - and to firm up the meat a little more - but they could be eaten right now if we wanted.

Sounds delicious!

Thought I’d add this to the thread. Happy Easter everyone.
