TMNT #40 Discussion

Dudes and dudettes.

With the new issue not out until Monday but I thought I'd get some discussion going now.

My main question being...how are Bebop and Rocksteady going to be beaten? Can they be?

I knocked up a review over at http://www.superdstuff.com/2014/11/tmnt-40.html. There is a spoiler section but it's separate so you can avoid it

Am I correct in thinking that #50 is where it's all going to completely kick off? I try to avoid the solicitations.

Hi guys,

Joey's right I do get early review copies, though I have to apologise as not only should it have said Wednesday, but it shouldn't have bee posted until today. I got a bit keen and jumped the gun.

But it will be back up a bit later. I am very lucky to get them! I write for a larger website and my reviews are written for both that site and my own blog. The main difference is I add the spoiler section on my blog.

There'll be a review for GB/TMNT #2 later this week too

EDIT - It's back up

SDCC,Mr. Waltz already opened a discussion for this issue when he posted the preview Friday afternoon. Venom, could you kindly merge/edit this thread with Tom's thread? Thanks.

As for the issue,I am quite curious how Bebop and Rocksteady are going to be made into a serious threat instead of a joke that just one of the up to ten opponents could take out with a simple leaping out of the way and having them run into something to k.o. themselves. Can they be cool? Fun? Serious? A mix of it all?

Perhaps I am jumping ahead but what could Stockman's role be in Attack On The Technodrome?

And the Golden Utrom for best fight scene yet in the IDW run goes to...

Seriously, what a great issue! Santolouco outdid himself! And that last page, oooh boy!

Spoiler:
Donnie really is treading a thin line I think.

Santolouco never fails to amaze me. I'm even starting to get used to the slightly odd looking bandanas that Leo and Donnie wear over their noses as opposed to Raph and Mikey.

This was the best fight in the book since Leo vs Krang. This really got me pumped for next month.

See, I'm not sure he is... I went back and reread issues 38-39, and Leo seems awful quiet after the offscreen talk he had with Donnie some time during 38. He never gets around to telling Mikey and Raph what it was about (at least that we know of), but what if Donnie reaching out to Shredder was Leo's plan all along? He did have an eureka moment in 36 that is yet to pan out. I think this is it, a plan to take out Krang and weaken the Foot in one fell swoop, pitting them against each other. Time will tell if I'm right.

I thought Bebop and Rocksteady were hilarious in this, the electrocution takes the cake.

I think you're right on the money

They are equal parts hilarious and formidable. I don't know what it would take to keep them down permanently

This was a great issue. Waltz, Eastman, and Burnham are an incredibly skilled team and Santolouco's artistic execution is flawless. This is my favorite iteration of the TMNT, by far.

Thanks. I could, of course, be wrong, but when you read those issues with that angle in mind, it all seems to fit perfectly.

Spoiler:
And it would go a long way towards explaining why Raph and Splinter are "okay" with a Shredder team-up in the next arc, without wasting 1-2 issues on angsty family drama.

First off, the brawl in this issue was really awesome! I was pumped!

Second, if Don and Leo are secretly plotting to pit the Foot and Krang's forces against each other to stop the Technodrome and weaken the Foot, I could see this leading to a Foot/Krang alliance. Basically, Krang and Shredder will blame the Turtles for both of their failures after Shredder realizes that he's been played. Then, they'll team up to take down the Turtles.

I don't think that alliance will last, though, if the future that the Turtles traveled to indicates anything. The world is split up into Foot and Krang territories in that future.

Was a good fighting chapter with a lot of balance, but the best in my opinion still remains Shredder vs Krang on the boat of doom.
Also, I wonder why Santolouco has done a 180 with his character designs. I really miss the City Fall arc artwork. That was his best IMO. Lately, his turtles look too cute, just like Ross Campbell. And did Alopex shrink or was she wearing high heels before? Sorry for the fuss but this is a pet peeve of mine. Great plot though which is what matters most.
