The one on the left almost resembles a Foot Mystic from the 4kids series.

Holy crap... How have I never thought of this, or seen anyone else bring it up, before?

I guess everyone just assumed Hob and the Mutanimals would be fighting against the invaders, but an alliance with the Triceratons actually suits Hob's plans perfectly! Not only is he currently outnumbered for his supposed war against humans, but the Triceratons themselves are actually mutated Earth animals! Oh, but that would also potentially mean Hob finding out where mutagen came from in the first place, thus giving him a little more footing in his agenda. He'd finally be able to find other mutants who get him, who understand his perspective in ways that the Mutanimals don't. Even Sally and Manray have a different perspective than him, and they're probably more akin to the Triceratons in their purpose for mutation than Hob.

Hob was a freak accident, but Sally and Man Ray were made to be soldiers like the Triceratons were. Yet they don't want anything to do with what Hob plans.

I assumed Tom was creating a double meaning referring to Slash and Tom himself, as in he is posting again.

That makes the most sense, as there is no character hinted in there whose return would be really hyped up.

The characters in Shadow are Hob and a triceriton. And Hob has been absent from the comic for exactly as long as Slash has.
