Regarding Alopex's mutation

So far we have seen at least one mutant (Slash) that was not effect by the same ooze that change the turtles but instead change from a copy cat version of it and he only end up becoming mental unstable, which begs the question, if the foot call was not able to get the original mutagen then what kind of chemical mutated Alopex?

Good question. Alopex seems pretty stable, and very well acclimated to her new state of being. And I have always wondered, in the intial robbery/assult in the first story arc, they made off with data disk as well, hinting that there is more to the terrapin battle armor project or whatever it was called. ..... Going to have to look that up now.....lol. But in light of Slash escaping and the title of said stolen research, I am inclined to believe that the other two specimen are turtles as well.

Slash's mental instability isn't because of the Mutagen, which is created from the Utrom Ooze. His mental instability was because of using a psychotropic serum derived from Old Hob's blood. Old Hob and the turtles were exposed to a contaminated psychotropic serum when they mutated. That was the whole point of the capture Splinter story was because of this. I have a feeling Alopex is our first human to anthropomorphic animal mutation. As for what she was mutated from, the Foot clan is in possession of the Ooze as well. It's what gave the Shredder eternal life in SHOTFC and would have been in a his coffin when he was revived.

What do you mean, "from the jump?"

I remember her being a pre-mutated fox in the Raphael one-shot, but that was her own account of things, and might have been a lie... after all, she was trying to get Raphael to identify/empathize with her so that she could betray him. So I could see where someone might think that she is in reality a human based mutant. One would think though that she'd have more prominent breasts if that were the case, though...

As has already been pointed out, we have no guarantee any part of that was true, and at least one major point (escaping from a lab) was definitely a lie.

That being said, now that we know she isn't Kitsune, I'd be very surprised if she was anything other than just a mutated snow fox and Shredder's first experiment with the mutagen the Foot stole from Stockgen.

Although, the ending of the Raphael micro did imply the Foot already had the means to make human-to-animal mutations (hence the Bebop and Rocksteady-looking thugs asking when it would be their turn). So maybe there's more to her than meets the eye.

Just to be clear, the serum and the ooze are two totally different things and Splinter has both in his body. Right?

Yep. The psychotropic serum and mutagen are separate. As is the "ooze," actually, which is the natural Utrom chemical the mutagen is refined from. The ooze is what Krang uses to sustain the other Utroms on Burnow Island and what allowed Shredder his eternal youth and immortality. It appears to only have regenerative/recuperative properties as opposed to mutagenic ones. Krang's been supplying Stockgen ooze to refine into mutagen. Both the mutagen and serum were to be used as part of Krang's super-soldier program.

The serum is what allowed Splinter to tap into his previous life, or so we've been led to believe.

Are you serious? I always thought that "ooze" was just a slang term invented by Mikey to reference the mutagen in the original TMNT movie.

Yep, totally serious. The series is pretty consistent with it, and Tom Waltz (series author) has clarified on this board several times.

Bare in mind this applies exclusively to the IDW series. In previous versions, you're right, "ooze" was just another term the Turtles used to refer to the mutagen.

The psychotropic serum that Hob was exposed to was contaminated, so extracting it from his blood for Slash only made for so much stability (I think).

The foot can make perfectly functional mutants like Alopex, they stole research in issue #1. What they lack is ooze, from which the mutagen is made, recently Karai stole some from Burnow island so we'll probably see more mutants. Stockgen cannot make advanced mutants anymore because their research was stolen, hence Slash being marked as a failed experiment. However they have a steady supply of ooze from Krang.
