I have to agree with the general reception I've seen online - It looks quite good, but a far-cry from the darker, horror-like tone they've been hyping up.

Thomas Haden Church is playing Lobster Johnson.

Fun Fact In the Del Toro Movies they were considering bringing Johnson in played by Bruce Campbell

It's a crime against humanity that this didn't happen.

In a way, I wish I'd never read your post, because now I will forever wonder what could have been, never to be satisfied

Trying to get my buddy hyped for this, since it looks like it's gonna be pretty damn good. It's not going well; he's a "No Perlman, no Del Toro, No Sale" kinda guy.

I admit, I was at first, but this is really winning me over so far. Like, I'm not immune to changing my mind, it just takes a lot. This looks like they know what they're doing, so my hopes are high.

It looks ok. For a movie that is supposed to be darker than the first 2 I see lots of comedy.

Hellboy is a fun character. They can't make him super dark. I think they only say that. Because this movie will be R rated. While the previous versions were PG-13.

I didn't know this was going to be rated-R. Awesome. I've always said that Hellboy (I never saw the second one, the first one didn't engage me enough) was one of those movies that could have definitely benefited from a harder edge.

Excited to see this but I'm trying to skip trailers lately. I did watch the last one and the tone of it reminded me of the Del Toro movies, more than I expected. I saw a lot of the same reaction online, because I think a lot of people were basing their expectations on comments made by those involved that this would be a darker, more horror-like vibe.

What say you, those who have seen the second trailer?

I have respect for those Del Toro films, for sure, but they don't quite capture what I love about the comics. I really do think it was an admirable effort with a lot of positives, but I expected something a bit more, I don't know, goth?

And apparently Mike Mignola loathes the Del Toro films.
