Goyer? Ugh...
On the other hand, if they find a good director there is a chance, but I am not really sure if they can adapt such creation of 80-s like He-Man to the modern era.
People won't accept such cheese this days.

One of those three things makes me happy.

Cool for people that like it. Just wanted to randomly share my He-Man story after watching that He-Man documentary and saw this thread. I do feel for a movie it'ss going to be hard to get a movie or show going though, even the Netflix she-ra one, it's just a franchise that is hard to update even though it does have a fleshed out universe.
Have you seen the Barbie episode, it's such a great companion piece to get a look at Mattel. I just love that the MOTU guys was basically BSing their way through making the line a reality

I really wished they got the people that worked on Thor Ragnarok.

yeah, the theme and mood in Raknarok would easily translate with He-Man.

The He-Man movie script is now being written by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man, The Last Knight, Punisher: War Zone)

I wonder how he feels about wearing an awful blonde wig

Seriously though, this is coming along slowly, I wasn't sure if the rights to it had run out, or were going to (sony) but maybe that was a different movie I read about. It was around time there was an announcement that Mattel would be making their own movies.

Hmm.

No opinion just yet.

I'd love a movie that plays the material straight, but that's not the fashion.

The fashion for toy movies is to completely take the piss out of the material, remind everyone how silly and stupid it is, and that they're a stupid boob for even liking it. I'm not interested in that.

For all the 1987 movie's flaws, at least it didn't feel like it was necessary to make fun of He-Man/MOTU.

We'll see how this turns out.

Just adapt the opening arc the 2002 animated series particularly the first two episodes. There's your story.

Design-wise look to the Masters of the Universe classics line which are basically the designs of the classic figures with a few touches of modernisation.

That would be great. The 2002 series was like everything that was great about the original series, minus the camp. It felt like such a natural modernization, and it proved that the concept doesn't have to be "silly" in order to have appeal.

I love the original show, but I also love the original mini-comics and audio cassettes/record albums, all of which were fairly dark and the very opposite of camp. THAT is what I want to see, more or less. The original cartoon was what most people remember, sure, but it was also the ONE and only time that the story and characters were treated in such a comedic fashion. It doesn't represent the franchise as a whole.

Doesn't have to be "dark" or "violent", just play the material straight, that's all I ask. If a person can't sell a concept like "Lord of the Rings Meets Star Wars" without making it silly, that person sucks at their job.

We'll see what shakes loose.

You think so? I liked some of the first season when it first came out but even back then, some of it seemed super silly because the overall tone was so half-assed: Clearly aimed at kids with extremely simple stories and episodes aggressively advertising new vehicles and stuff but at the same time trying to be dark only by reducing all comic relief to a minimum. The camp is always there nevertheless. You cannot have episodes dedicated to a mutant skunk called Stinkor and make it serious.

He at best looks like Prince Adam and that is being nice. I hope this movie doesn't end up being a train wreck.

It appears Sony may have zero faith in the Masters of the Universe movie performing at the box office and could pass it off to Netflix

Honestly, can you blame them? I feel bad about whatever money they've already put into this thing.

It's been going on for so long this wouldn't surprise me. I'd go see it at the theatre, unless it just looked awful.

What if the Hollywood spin on He-Man is that they position it as an uplifting gay comedy and instead of the furry loincloth, they put He-Man and crew in Feathers?

I think that's entirely a possibility.

Also, with a race swap cast.
