Must Read List: graphic novels & collected editions
You know how people consider certain books to be the Classics such as Pride and Prejudice, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Catcher in the Rye, Robinson Crusoe, The Count of Monte Cristo, Moby-Dick, and The Great Gatsby. And many many many more. Alright you get the point.
Most people can name some of the top fifty classic books and have similar lists. I want to know what do you consider to be the graphic novel or collected comic run equivalent to classic literature. The required reading that most people can say it would be in the top fifty. I am interested because I don't want to waste my time and there are so many choices. So a general consensus is great. I have started my must read list below. Batman The Dark Knight Returns Watchmen Sandman vol. 1 preludes & nocturnes Batman The Killing Joke Batman The Long Halloween TMNT the ultimate collection vol. 1-5 Walt Disney's Uncle Scrooge: "Only a Poor Old Man" Vol.12 (Carl Barks) Bone #1 out from boneville The Uncanny X-Men Omnibus Vol.1&2 (Claremont) Amazing Spider-Man Nothing Can Stop the Juggernaut Daredevil Vol. 1-3 (Frank Miller) Thanks.

Personally, I'm more of a "Bone: Complete Collection" person, than "Bone Book 1".

Most of my list if future reading that I've heard great things about. Trying to see what is most recommended to purchase first. I've heard a lot of good things about Bone. What commonly available collected edition do you recommend? Couldn't find much on Amazon. Anything else that you think needs to be on a list of top runs/books?

Well, the Scholastic versions are the most common right now, especially since they're in color. I'd love the ability to read the very first issues, but those are extremely hard to come by. I have a few of them though, which is great. But it's made me notice how things were changed/removed.
The trouble with the complete treasury is that it can cost up to $40, and is 1001 pages in length.

Yeah I think alot of people would consider Calvin and Hobbes to be a classic. I had forgotten about them.
I never heard of Scott McCloud. After a quick search, I found a Ted talk featuring him. I think his concept of the "infinite canvas" is outstanding.

I actually ordered Watchmen last Friday and received shipping notification today. Looking forward to reading it hopefully this month. I'll have to look up some of the others you mentioned as I'm only familiar with a few of the titles.

Hellblazer John Constantine Vol 1 Original Sins Its the introduction to Constantine as a solo comic
Hellblazer John Constantine Vol.5 Dangerous Habits. This is one of his most iconic stories the Dangerous Habits arc. I am trying to read all of Constantine all 300 issues but these are the two so far id recommend.

It would be hard for me not to start with Vol. 1. Wow, 300 issues...damn. What issue does Vol. 5 start on? When I hear Constantine the first thing I think of is keanu reeves. I liked that movie but its probably not related, is it?

no that Keanu movie is Terrible he is not playing Constantine at all just an an americanized version. If you wanna watch a more faithful version watch the failed TV Series staring Matt Ryan. Vol 5 starts with issue #34 of Hellblazer
