I admit, it makes me a little sad that filmmakers feel the need to do that with Asian women. Like, Asian women are too plain to the eye, so they need to step in and give some "flair." I don't think it's something that's worth outraging over, though, but maybe something to be mindful of in avoiding.
Hell, even look at what all non-Laird versions of Karai have done. 2012 Karai AND 2014 movie Karai both got all kinds of crazy color hair dye/streaks.

I doubt there's a lot of outrage, at least not now, maybe years ago when people started to notice it, but more of a "what a tired trope, let's not?"

Never gave it much thought, but yeah, that's kind of an odd stereotype/character trope.
 I suppose there are worse ones, but I understand that being stuck in the confines of certain depictions gets irritating. Esp when the people writing the material for characters of your demographic are themselves totally outside of it. (Just like how the cool kid in film is never the one with glasses or a bit overweight; always the dork, unpopular one, or, in the case of the chunky one, the funny sidekick.)But I have to say, I am a tad envious that it's not something most whites could ever look that cool with since natural jet black hair isn't too common.  Would look so bleh paired with my dark blonde. Only jet black can give it that pop.

OK, admittedly that video wasn't really about hair dye as much as it was about sterotypes of asian women in media. However, it's still pretty laughable to start out the video by declaring hair dye as racist.
