It makes sense in the story, but I hope it's not a permanent change.

Besides, if anything this movie will sort of prove who is true 007, unless they nerf Bond to be a useless weight for the new "brave, stunning and unique and strong and beautiful black woman agent", which I doubt they will.

On the other hand, who knows what they will do? Bond is no longer popular as he was back in the day, so producers might think that pandering to the crazies might be a profitable way to pull franchise out of the ass. The problem that franchise in the ass, not because of the lack of "diversity", but because of horrible writing and incompetent producers themselves.

Hollywoke strikes again. why not have this chick be 008. 007 is Bond's Moniker and shouldn't be passed down to other agents.

007 is a position. If James Bond died or left there would be another mi6 agent to replace him as 007.

This is an interesting move rather than the same ol Bond. A new female 007 agent is welcomed in my books.

This series gonna be a fresh new take, I’m hyped.

Giving OO7 to another agent is not canon. They've had OO11, so there is no numerical limit.

In the novel You Only Live Twice, Bond was transferred into another branch and given the number 7777, suggesting there was no active agent 007 in that time; he is later reinstated as 007 in the novel The Man with the Golden Gun.

Another agency. He kept his number upon return. There have been OO female agents in several films, no reason to give someone 7 except for politics.

I think it's interesting we're going to see the 007 code name be given to another agent in a movie that isn't the first Casino Royale starring OG Bond; David Niven.

It's be cool if she got her own standalone movie before they reboot James Bond.
