What Games Would You Like To See An HD Remaster?

So what games would you like to see a HD remaster for?

Ones that come to mind for me...

Atelier Iris 1-3
Breath of Fire 3
Castlevania Symphony of The Night
Chrono Trigger
Diablo
Digital Devil Saga 1-2
Dragon Quest VIII
Lunar 1 and 2
Mana Khemia 1-2
Parasite Eve
Persona 1-2
Phantasy Star IV
Shantae 1-3
Shining Force 1 and 2
Shining Force CD
Shining in The Darkness
Valis 1-3(Maybe 4 as well)

I'm pretty sure this was at least made to be scalable to HD if not fully remasterd because IIRC it came as a downloadable game with the PS3's collector's edition of the absolutely amazing "Castlevania: Lords of Shadow" game.

But if you mean a remake instead of an HD remaster I'd be just as excited as I would be leery of it. LOL! The use of sprites in that game was a masterwork of programming and sprite artwork.

I'm tempted to replay both this and Lords of Shadow right now just because you brought this up, but that's hours of a deep dive into gaming again, man.

So I've noticed that this series comes up often here on these boards. I might be wrong, but I thought they were already remastered of sorts via the Limited Run Games PS4 physical releases a few years back?

I think I still have sealed copies of one of them, although I know I sold at least the extra copies I picked up on the LRG initial order.

Too be honest maybe Shantae 1-3 need actual remakes to look more like Shantae and the Seven Sirens.

Yeah, see I only became familiar with them through the two LRG releases. But I'm taking away from your context here that those LRG games were not remasters of the original three Shantae games you mentioned above?

-shrugs-

I'm definitely with you on Skyward Sword, but didn't the Metroid Prime trilogy already get the widescreen treatment?

Maybe wide-screen on the Wii but certainly not HD. The Wii can't display HD and the games did not receive a true port for either Wii U or Switch, which are capable of displaying HD. The version you can get for the Wii U is just an ISO of the Wii version meant to run in Wii mode, so no real improvement there.

I take this to mean existing 3D games boosted to HD, like the recent Mario 3D release.

Zelda: Skyward Sword
Chrono Cross
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Super Mario RPG

Well then let's just see if those rumors about Metroid Prime Trilogy coming out for the Switch will ever become a reality.

  • Die Hard Trilogy (unlikely)
  • Most major Nintendo 64 games (to list a few, either of the Castlevania games, F-Zero X, and Sin and Punishment)
  • Skyward Sword
  • Shadow of the Colossus
  • Zombies Ate My Neighbors

I figure with how popular Monster Hunter is that Shadow of the Colossus would benefit getting updated. Same with horror games in the case of Castlevania; can never count out Zelda either.

My main money though is updating the N64 or PlayStation games. The 2D PlayStation games hold up remarkably well. 3D modeling at the time, unless cartoonish (ex: Crash Bandicoot), doesn't. Most remain solid, but bear in mind it took time. Definitely a facelift can benefit them, as long as the core gameplay remains the same (or ironed out). I got nothing specific barring what I mentioned for the N64 games though for what can work best. Especially since several obvious/popular choices (Crash, FF7, Resident Evil, etc.) got remade this decade.

A YouTuber I follow recently brought this game back to my attention. Unfortunately, I doubt it can happen. Between politics and other popular Sega games, it's likely just a hidden gem at most. A shame too.

*checks* Indeed it did on the PS4. Guess that's me not paying attention.

If only I had a PS4 and I could check it out. Eventually.

I forgot to mention my own pick for this.... I've been dying for a remaster of all three of these forever - The Parasite Eve series. I loved that series, and I never got to play the Third Birthday because of the platform it was on. They could remaster all three games and put them in a collection and I'd be all-in on those.

There's hope for Parasite Eve

Are they better or worse than the Lords of Shadow games?

Forgot about Parasite Eve, I will be adding that to my list.

There where 3 Die Hard games?

Never liked the 3D Castlevania games. Never got a chance to play the 2D ones that came out after Symphony of The Night.

Ooh, Parasite Eve! Loved that one. And BoF3 would be awesome to see in a modern rendition. Dig that dragon gene-splicing!

Those came before those, but I never played the Lords of Shadow ones. Largely because they were said to reboot everything.

Lament of Innocence was a fantastic game. With an upscaling pound cable it might not even need a remaster.

I didn't get through the first level of Lords of Shadow 2, but Lords of Shadow 1 was a gaming masterpiece..... I could go on about that game all day. It was an amazing game.
