If I were a lesser man, I would pay someone to ransack and burgle your house while you're asleep, just for the sake of Karmic Balance.

But I'm not a lesser man. AND I have no money for that. But oh boy... IF.

Let me know when we finally get to watch Black Widow. I'll sign up for Disney+ for that.

$30 is about the cost of 2 tickets plus hiring a drunk homeless guy to babysit my kids. And watching from home has less chance of tetanus or scurvy!

Honestly, I'm taking advantage of him. But he pilfers from the medicine cabinet each time to get back at us. Ol' Mac sure likes his ibuprofen...

Yeah, sure, that's really the strongest thing in your medicine cabinet. And why are you getting a homeless drunk, when a teen girl will do it cheaper? Especially one with braces and no social life. You're looking in the wrong places for babysitters....

Hiring homeless drunks doesn't violate court orders.

Wow, a 78% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and the consensus is:

Quote:
It could have told its classic story with greater depth, but the live-action Mulan is a visual marvel that serves as a stirring update to its animated predecessor.

At the very least it should have some good kung fu fighting like a martial arts film. To see a bunch of Asians do back flips and karate chops is good enough for me. It's more or less based on a true story as far as I know anyway, so it should be interesting.

They hired mostly Chinese actors right? I mean I know they're going to speak in english, but it would be weird if they used Japanese or other Asian actors. I can't tell the difference between a Chinese and Japanese accent anyway, it's all "Ching chong" to me either way.

You think this film will still go ahead with some theater showings later? Once this whole virus mess is gone.

Really hate that streaming services have taken over the way they have. Would like to see it, but yeah, no, having to buy another service for one movie is stupid and out of the question. (And god forbid Netflix hardly even make itself worth it much anymore as far as newer-ish movies go unless it's their own content. )

Yeah, everybody knows it's "Ching-Chong Bing-Bong." You can't just lop off half of it, it ruins the entire flow. What a rube!

Welp that was bad.

Like:
- the actress
- Cinematography is beautiful
- Christina Aguilera songs

Dislike
- the witch which is totally overly powerful at the start but became useless as story goes. She’s not needed at all tbh
- the Phoenix is pointless, just glorified cgi with no purpose
- Mulan discarding her armor in the middle of war to be “her true self” and became super saiyan on everyone else wtf
- the emperor fighting using curtains to defeat soldiers wtf
- finale fight not at royal palace but some ugly bamboo construction site

6/10

Finished watching this, I really hope nobody paid $30 for this because this was really bad. I actually really enjoyed the live action Beauty and the Beast, and Alladdin/Lion King were ok....but this was genuinely bad.

I mean it was honestly so boring. It was joyless and played straight, scenes didn't flow properly from one to the next. And if I hadn't watched the original film I'd be more or less lost on the story, all you knew is Mulan joined the army and disguised herself as a man so her sick father didn't have to fight in the war...but then the whole movie goes nowhere after that but a montage of training scenes and then the fight scenes.

Also all the characters in the movie were boring, including Mulan herself. None of her soldier friends were interesting nor were the villains. Only good thing I can say about the film is a few of the action scenes were alright and it looked visually good. I'd give it a 4/10.

This is why I don't pay to watch movies before I've seen them once, you never know if they're going to be worth it.

It was OK.

If I'd saw it in cinema it probably would of looked amazing.

The score and Cinematography were great, it had some good fight scenes.

It was a bit boring in some parts, The final fight was a bit bland and short. I didn't think much of the witch.

I liked that it was bit more mature than the other live action Disney films, It had quiet a lot of deaths in this movie but didn't show any blood.

For those of you who watched it, do you feel this was worth watching in theaters, or better off on the smaller screen?

Okay, I watched it yesterday with my two friends and I honestly don't know why critics liked this movie so much. It was a joyless film and had very little-to-no charm. Nearly every character is so serious and unmemorable. Some of the soldiers in the army try to give you some laughs, but most of their jokes fall completely flat. In the animated movie, I was rooting for Mulan from start to finish. I just couldn't this time around because I didn't think she had much personality. The fights and choreography look cool and the scenery can be majestic at times but there is just no heart in it.
Spoiler:
The one thing that was really nice was Ming-Na Wen making a cameo as an imperial lady who introduces Mulan to the Emperor during the celebration, but that's basically it.

This ranks at the bottom of the remakes for me next to Alice Through the Looking Glass. All of the other recent ones like Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, and Aladdin made me feel like a kid again. They all also still had the heroes I know and love and antagonists I love-to-hate. The Jungle Book was a visual treat and paid the right amount of homage to its predecessor. Cinderella was beautiful to look at and it had wonderful leads and a great villain along with solid supporting characters. Pete's Dragon and Christopher Robin had heart and wonderful family messages. Dumbo was gloomy, but at least they tried to do a unique take on it with neat visuals like Alice in Wonderland did. Maleficent told a story we all know from a different perspective and it occasionally had some humor and its leading lady had solid chemistry with Elle Fanning, who gave depth to a princess that a lot of people found boring. I don't care for its sequel, but it was a mess in a kind of a good way. This Mulan lacked enjoyment in so many ways imaginable.
