The delay on season 3 I think is pretty long. I hope that it doesn't take the steam out of the show and kill it by the time it airs. Season 2 began in 12/2018 and we won't see a season 3 until late this year. Almost two years - they could've just made a movie.

Seems like this show has been "on the air" for almost a decade. Funny how Season 3 isn't even out yet!

Bortus and Isaac are great. I can't believe how good the show got as it went on. The first few episodes of Season 1 were a bit shaky since it almost felt like a self-aware parody at first, but then they started doing better stories and some amazing world building for The Krill, The Kaylon, and the Moclans.

It really is basically Star Trek with a little more humor, and I can't believe good good a lot of the stories are. Honestly Seth himself feels like the weakest actor on the show, but everyone else is great. Oh and that black guy, I forgot his name, they sort of ran out of things to do with him as the show went on and he felt like he faded into the background after he left the bridge.

I believe it. They probably had contracts for Season 3 but it's literally been years off-air during the period that it should have been building it's real legs.

I love the show, but they let the ball drop for so long that it doesn't even make sense. I mean - bare minimum they should have somehow been airing seasons 1 and 2 during the pandemic just to keep excitement up for season 3 for t.v. normies.

Yeah they screwed the pooch on this one and really missed a solid opportunity. I mean these streaming services are really only as good as their original content and it’s odd to me not to prioritize successful content and just give up. I really liked this one because it nicely blended nostalgia and modern production values quite well.

It's probably for the best. This type of show can only go on so long until it either gets too serious or too much a parody of itself.

Orville becoming more serious was usually what got it widely praised.

I always thought it seemed clever. Beginning as an obvious homage with jokes while then seizing the opportunity to dip into deeper stuff.

For me, it just accentuates the hole that has existed since maybe Star Trek: Enterprise (and with it, Star Trek proper) went off the air. Not replacing it. Accentuating it. Particularly with stuff like STD and STP going on.

If only those rumors of Seth going into the offices of CBS looking to buy the license for Star Trek were true, but he did seal that deal. Obviously he'd do right by it.

I prefer it this way too, the first few eps haven't aged too well and it reminds me why people thought this series would be nothing but dick jokes or toilet humor. But it got good very quickly.

Yup. It was almost endlessly watchable.

WHY did I wait so long to watch this series?

Saw episode 1 when it first aired. while it was heavy handed on the comedy, and I kept on WISHING it where star trek, I enjoyed it.

problem is, things I enjoy usually don't last long. so, I waited.

now that season 3 is happening, went back to season 1. My god. Good writing AT LAST. and it's coming from Seth FREAKIN' McFarlane.

What is wrong with this picture, hollywood?

Command decision was brilliantly written. the LT. acts like a REAL person. No, Bestest EVA from her...despite her advanced phsyical ability. and it makes her instantly likeable as a character, even when she does the wrong decision.

Even the THIRD episode is BRILLIANT. you can see both sides of the angel, and of course, the earth one is the right one, despite it being a different species. and being a different species being all Male is the only time something like that makes sense, AKA Namekians who also lay eggs. Pretty sure an all female species would have had the same problem, and IMHO, also shoots down the transgender argument single handedly. wonder how twitter reacted to that ep.

it'll be interesting to see how season 1 progresses and if it stays this good.

Season 2 was better than Season 1 too. From what I remember they toned down a lot of the juvenile humor from the early season 1 eps so it got even better.

Just finished the 1st episode. It was pretty good and practically a movie though the plot was pretty simple and surprisingly poignant.
