Furiosa (a Mad Max: Fury road prequel)

Apparently it's a go, and George Miller's next.

https://www.comicbookmovie.com/actio...9244#gs.inj84c

Anya Taylor-Joy plays the younger Furiosa now, who looks really nothing remotely like a young Charlize Theron. But then, I guess it's not like Tom Hardy looks anything like Mel Gibson at any age, either.

Not excited about this. Furiosa was a decent character in the last one but I'm hardly chomping at the bit to get more of her backstory or anything. After all this wait I'd prefer to get the next chapter of Max... they could have Furiosa tag along again if they want, but let's go forward.

Not Charlize Theron?

My hype dies down so quickly. I guess I’ll wait for the trailer.

I thought that was kind of the point. Charlize did such a good job they're spinning her character off... with a different actress?

I much prefer going forward as well. If they want to do a prequel it can be in a short intro like young Indy in Indiana Jones 3: The Last Crusade - leaving Harrison Ford in his prime being the main focus for most of the film.

You have Charlize Theron in her prime now but they decided to focus a whole film on a completely different actress?? Just why. Such a waste.

No Charlize, no interest.

I didn't realize we were there for anything other than the audio/visual spectacle.

But to be fair, I've never seen the original movies. I tuned in with Fury Road and was blown away by the action, the prop and character design, the subtle world building. Tom and Charlize, while awesome, are completely replaceable, in this instance.

I'm sure it will be good for those exact reasons, but I'm a HUGE Charlize Theron fan. So replacing her with anybody else is a big step down for me.

I'll probably see it eventually, but I'm no longer excited.

What the point of having Furiosa movie without Teron?

It's not the same situation as with Gibson, who is simply "too old for this ****".

Miller just really wants to tell the story of how she lost her hand, I guess. Dumb.

And honestly I don't think Gibson is too old. Hell, they had him playing old in Beyond Thunderdome.

And maybe he wants to do it without paying Charlize what she's worth. Hence the younger recast.

You think? She does pretty much anything for a song these days. I doubt they paid her a ton on "The Long Shot," and while I'm sure she gets a nice payday to show up in the Fast & Furious movies, I tend to think she's doing those more for the fun of doing them than much else.

So it did start shooting:

Is anyone else not particularly excited about it? I'd really be in the mood for a proper Mad Max 5, so a Furiosa movie certainly wouldn't be my first choice. But a Furiosa movie with no Charlize Theron? Pointless.

Yeah, this is basically how I feel.

Don't care. Theron or not. Though no Theron makes it worse, and more pointless.

Thought she was great in the Mad Max flick. But the decision for a Furiosa flick was made at the height of the social-justice-by-appropriation and male-cancellations mania which the pendulum is finally swinging away from.

At this point I'd rather see Hardy back as Mad Max, but I'd give Furiosa a shot with the marketing if they make it.

Furiosa was cool, but as everyone I question why do you need to make a movie about her without Sharlize. She was the one who made this character work.

Since its also being directed by George Miller, You know this movie is going to have crazy car chases and stunts, Which has always been his bread and better.

Hopefully this movie is on the level of Fury Road in terms of the action, a lot of it was practical.

What's going to happen is George is going to go burn himself out on Mad Max style movies for another 5 years again. Since he's already 77 that'll be it for Mad Max movies from him.

4 good Mad Max movies and a prequel origin story for a side character from part 4. That'll be the saga.

Idk... is it too late for a Mad Max 5 with Gibson hunting down Tom Hardy in the wasteland? Because this doesn't look like anything new.

I'm interested in seeing this, but honestly a return of Mel Gibson to the role one last time wouldn't have been out of the question. I really liked Fury Road though so, we will see how this goes.
