As one who is married to someone with kidney failure I'd say no. For humans at least, it is a slow and certainly not easy way to go. It jacks blood pressure way up, increases stress on other organs especially the heart, causes severe vomiting(one of the first signs they are failing, due to contaminants not being filtered from the blood) and bowel blockage(cause ya can't "go") and other nasty side effects. If it is anything like that for animals(do fish get nauseous?) I would not wish it on any creature.

I wasn't saying it was a good thing, Duckie. I was saying that the best thing to hope for is that the fish won't suffer much if it does pass.
Temperatures just took a dive. We went from the seventies to the sixties.

I actually WANT those kind of outdoor temperatures here, especially if it's 60 degrees outside. Because 80 - 100 degree days coupled with high humidity absolutely suck.

Would it be too much to ask for an aloe vera that has moisturizing lotion in it? I have a bit of a sunburn from my day out swimming with my boyfriend...which was otherwise very nice.

That was actually my point though. Don't know how it works in fish but for humans it IS suffering a great deal. Not sure where anyone would get the idea that renal failure is a "better" way to go than other ailments but it is a slow and lingering death through blood poisoning, constant vomitingdehydration, and high blood pressure/heart failure among other things. I wasn't talking about your post just the idea of it being an "easy" passing compared to.... WHAT, exactly? It's about as bad as cancer if not worse. Cancer can have recovery but short of transplants that require a lifetime of anti-rejection drugs, kidney failure is a death sentance that lasts for months.

I know reptiles have only recently been legalized in Norway as hobby animals, but damn there's a lot of dumb questions on reptile groups and forums now.
And I don't mean people that ask basic how-to-care questions, that's fair enough. But people will ask "is this reptile legal, what about this one?" The positive list of legal animals are readily available, just check it... |

So whatever I have been trying to fight off suddenly decided to fight back with a vengence today. Not only have my sinuses and chest been congested AF and my voice shot to heck(in a job where I NEED it of course) but I came back from having my break and literally not more than 10 minutes later my break meal decides it wants to come back up. Ran to the bathroom and spent several minutes leaning over the toilet. They finally sent me home. Tummy is still not happy. More like seriously ticked off at me. Pepto is looking like my best friend right now.....

That's awful, Powder. Best thing you can do is drop them since they don't want to actually be loyal to you. Quote:
It's fine if she's not your cup of tea, but accusing her of falsifying being groped when the picture clearly shows that he did grope her and then saying that her album is being released for more publicity is pretty low of you.

Well if by treatment you mean hooking an animal to a machine for hours at a time every couple of days or so- maybe? Honestly the treatment is almost as bad in some ways. Leaves them feeling weak and drained (literally- they are having their blood completely drained and pumped back in constantly for as much as four or five hours each treatment) and sometimes the backwash that gets removed can make them sick if too much gets taken out. I know it is possible for cats and dogs but keeping them still for that long is difficult. For fish though.....? Seems like a viable treatment would not be possible.

Well, I was simply trying to just find a sliver of peace of mind in having to watch a beloved pet die, seeing as how I can't do anything about this... but never mind. |

Kind of makes me wish that we could just give kidney patients (human or animal) a couple of pills of whatever it was Dr. McCoy gave that dialysis patient in Star Trek IV.

edit: Googled it, looks like they're indeed working on that, with human trials starting this year or early next. |

True. I read recently about 3D printed kidney replacements being tested. If it works then patients could be "cured" without needing expensive drugs to prevent rejection. I am keeping my fingers crossed.....

I agree that pills would be better, but it's good that they're trying to do all they can to find a substitute for what humans have to go through now.
