The Eden Planet was mostly just part of writing the Fred Wolf villains out of the comic as early as possible.

I mean.... I guess the article has a point. If those two ever decide to 'give it a try', they're the only ones on an entire planet that would ever know. Either that or eventually they'd have to get to 'friendly' with the animals, which seeing as they're already half animals may or may not be bestiality.

I think people including Mr. Clarke, who will always be my very favorite Leonardo & Rocksteady, are looking into this a little too much. It's kind of like the fans of Star Wars who did the same thing with Poe and Finn. Even one of the creators of those characters never saw a romance develop between them. She just saw as really good pals.
