Sideshow Shredder Statue Restoration
I'm not sure if this sort of thing would interest anyone, but I thought I caught a really great deal on ebay for a Sideshow Shredder Comiquette Statue for only $200. I had spoken to the seller and was assured he would be packaged with the utmost care as his only flaw was missing the original box. Little did I know utmost care was a fairly loose term as when he arrived he was broken to bits.
Now... I do restore and repair gypsum statues as a hobby so I figured I'd give this fellow a try since I have it anyway. Even though it's a sort of resin and not exactly gypsum, it's not all that different to repair it from what I've been reading. So this is how he looks now after his trip to New England... The Shredder has been shredded as you can see. If there is any interest in seeing how this progresses I will update the thread periodically with my progress and also what materials and techniques I used to complete the restoration and perhaps if anyone else has statues that need fixing this thread could help them out if needed. I also do repairs on commission, but since this was my first Sideshow piece I am going to try I figured if anything it would be a nice visual aid in the case anyone has their own repairs they would like to try before I start possibly offering up repair commissions. I'll begin working on him after the weekend and add photos as I progress. Feel free to comment on your thoughts.

I'm sorry if I put it in the wrong area. I had asked in another thread where I should post this but nobody had responded. My apologies. It's not going to be custom so much. I'm restoring it to look original.
Anyway here's what I got so far. I've pinned and reassembled the body and have patched bits with Apoxie Sculpt and Citadel Green Stuff for hairline cracks. Sanded and now I'm going to be painting today.

More photos of patching... the shoulder area is probably the most complex break on the sculpt. I'll also have to fill inside the hollow between the shoulder and the clothing.

Finishing on the two heads. The shadowed eyes had the helmet crest broken and the face had the side gaurd snapped.
I found Citadel Iron Breaker to be a near flawless paint match. I'll be working on the body today....

I'm so sorry he arrived damaged, that sucks!
But thank you for sharing your repair story with us. My own Shredder got a bit damaged when a heavy picture that was hanging over him dropped off the wall during the night. I was really lucky that the only bits of him that were damaged were some 2x4 stud projections off the back of the base. That said, I've been meaning to fix him, if for no other reason than to not lose the pieces that broke off. Suggestions as to what kind of glue I should use? I'm really new to restoration.

I use Loctite super glue gel. Stuff works amazing!
Body is coming along. Got the clothes and armor done and need to just reattach the blades. Now I'm working on the flesh. It's been hard to get a paint match there... He keeps stabbing me! LOL

Well... He's all finished! I'll probably post some pictures tonight when I get home from work. I'm pretty happy with him.
In the meantime I got a full refund for the damage so I'd say I made out pretty good!

So now I have a broken Playmates Leonardo Statue I just received as well who will need a similar restoration. I'm having really bad luck with ebay lately, but I suppose it's good to have an example of a turtle as well.
I'll probably get photos up and get the restoration work started mid week after the blizzard we're supposed to be getting hit with. (hurray for New England) I'll just add this restoration in here if anyone is interested in seeing another repair job. I'm also pretty confident if anyone needs me to fix any of their statues shoot me a message. I'll probably start commissions on these sort of jobs if there is enough interest. I actually just fixed some minor issues on a few other Sideshow comiquettes and you can't even tell they were ever broken.

Thoroughly impressive. Sorry to hear another piece of yours met an ill fate, but I'm sure you'll do a bang up job on it, at least.

Well i think the guy was a little miffed I practically stole the statue for just $40. He was reluctant to ship is so I guess that's why he did such a crummy job packing it.
