That's what I think as well, although I think the original did a much better job of pointing to Aladdin as "the diamond in the rough", while in the remake, Iago just happened to see him passing by and randomly decided that he is the one.

Shredder and Krang combined had the biggest arsenal of any villains in all of the cartoons.

Wow, that just proves how gullible Disney's audiences are to churn out that much money for this waste of time.

^Yep, Will Smith was mind blown and grateful for how this movie is well received, it even tops Independence Day. He talked about it on his IG vid.

They also just released my fav segment of the movie. Absolutely magical to behold

I wonder if it'll be as terrible as the first live action movie though.

The deleted duet between Aladdin and Jasmine can now be heard thanks to Disney Music. The song is called "Desert Moon". I think it's a very pretty song and it's too bad that it was included in the final cut.

Disney debuted a clip of "Desert Moon". It was apparently going to take place during the scene where Jasmine was waiting for Aladdin to return, but he had obviously been kidnapped by Jafar and was headed for the Cave of Wonders.

Despite the massive success of the movie, Mena Massoud’s career hasn’t gone as well as he hoped it would. While he’s not ungrateful for the experience, he actually hasn’t done a single audition since the film was released back in May. His roles on TV shows that aired after the release of the movie were done when it was in post-production.

Bill Magnussen, the actor who played Prince Anders, is getting a spin-off for Disney+ while Mena Massoud, hasn't gotten a single audition since the film was released.

Who is Prince Ander anyway? An unimportant side character I cannot remember from either of Disney's versions?

He was the European prince who proposed to Jasmine in the Live Action flick.

I admittedly found him pretty funny and charming.

Sucks for Mena, although I get the feeling that Disney cast him more for his resemblance to the animated Aladdin, rather than for acting skills, and the same criteria for casting won't fly elsewhere

Watched it for free for kicks and giggles.

Bored. Will Smith was about the only interesting part in it for me... more invested in Genie getting the girl than Aladdin or Jasmine.

The sequel is coming

https://variety.com/2020/film/news/a...el-1203502713/

According to this, it will be an original story and won't be an adaptation of the sequels Return of Jafar or King of Thieves.

Last year's film deserves a lot of credit but it still relied heavily upon the familiar beats of the original film to make its emotional connections with audiences. It will take a tremendous effort on the part of the creative powers that be to make an original sequel without source material to fall back onto.

Nostalgia Critic's made issue was the reliance on the animated film for plot beats only diverging to extend the run time. I also could see the issue Mena's had about the lack of work following the breakout role. He does phone it in compared to others.

I did not care for the musical numbers only the story, but it is a part of what makes a Disney film a Disney film. I also thought it making Jasmine's women's lib song to go immediately pointless when Jafar gets what he wants immediately after.

Aladdin pioneered the direct to video market so not following the direction of the direct to video films allows it to also pioneer the live action remakes by allowing it to be more original. Hopefully Mena will take this opportunity to further himself.

Alan Menken talks about how "A Whole New World" was written and briefly about the new arrangement he did for the song in the live-action movie.
