The 4th live-action movie that almost was...
I recently wrote this article for TMNT Entity and, while it might be "old news" to many of you (it was written more with casual fans in mind, not aware of this info), it still might be of some interest to a few posters:
The 4th Live-Action TMNT Movie That Never Was... The leaked info regarding this unproduced 4th film from 1994 (and a completely different pitch from 2001), I noticed, was sort of scattered all over the internet and not really corralled into a single location. I gathered together all the disperate bits of info I could find and organized them all into this article, to maybe give readers a more complete picture of the movie they almost made back in the 90s. Again, old news to some of you, but perhaps a few posters will find some of the info enlightening. |

Great summation as usual, Spengs. I've also seen this image that must have been from the 2001 Steve Barron concepts but wasn't posted on Brendan McCarthy's blog:
It does give us another possible look at "Kirby(?)."

Thanks! I added that piece plus the other sketch of this mysterious Shredder-Turtle (that apparently isn't Raph, judging from his unfamiliarity with Don and pizza in one of the images; though one can never rule out a contrived brainwashing plot). Perhaps the 2001 pitch did carry over the "Fifth Turtle" concept from "TMNT: The Next Mutation", linking it to the previous project more than I thought. Doc, found this on Vaughn Michael's photo stream from Playmates own 1996 toy catalogue:

Why wasnt this done? SOB scrapping My child hood heroes
Thank you though I always heard of a 4th movie was in the works, but nothing into such detail. My favorite line in the whole article- "Dammit Devient Art! Stay out of my google search!" made me laugh my but off.

Regarding that supposed silhouette of "Kirby" in this poster, I can't help but think it's just a quick edit of this Mike Dooney poster from the TMNT Magazines:

Thanks for the time you took to place all findable info available in one spot.
I'd love to see a script, if it were created, or some more plot details. Interesting how the live-action series of the same name didn't carry over much ideas from the possible 3rd-film follow-up. Hey, am I the only one who thinks Gary Coleman, out of all respect to him and the ninja turtles, would of played a great Michelangelo? Last edited by Vernon; 03-10-2011 at 07:03 PM. |

Yet another great article, Doc! Fantastic. Don't think i've seen half the pics in there, especially the coloured 'mutated' turtles and one've the Barron pages.

Well, thank YOU Discordia, for scanning the Kirby sketch pages from Eastman's Artobiography and putting them online. I don't own the Artobiography and it goes for some pretty high prices right now, so I'd have been out of luck, otherwise (I made sure to give you a credit at the bottom of the article!).
Man, it is KILLING me knowing that the Playmates catalog page isn't in that article and I need to get off work RIGHT NOW so I can add it! GAH! Obsessive compulsive crap like that just chews at me... |

Article updated with Plymates catalog page!
Sweet. Though maybe somewhere down the line the powers that be that were in the know will come out with more detailed info about the plot and Kirby's origins. Still, it was fun hunting all this junk down for the article! |
