That report is misleading. All Disney/Marvel did is announce that the 1st movie is called Infinity War and the second is currently untitled. The Wrap is wrong (as usual) in assuming this means the 2nd part isn't related to Thanos. They wouldn't be filming both movies at the same time if that was the case.

Official confirmation is nice, though...

Does the word "crossover" even mean anything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Not really, now that you mention it.

I suppose it will mean something again if Agents of SHIELD or the Defenders are ever explicitly acknowledged on the big screen. Until then... nope.

Infinity War and the 4th movie will mark the end and a new beginning for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Quote:
Talking to IGN recently, Anthony Russo explained why these movies are going to mark both a natural ending and new beginning for the MCU as we know it. "I can't get into too much detail about who we're introducing, but these two movies are intended to be the culmination of everything that has happened in the MCU since the very first Iron Man movie. In being a culmination, these movies are in some ways going to be an end to certain things, and in some ways, they're going to be the beginning of certain things." With so many new heroes in Phase 3, could we get a New Avengers?

That remains to be seen, but the director went on to explain whether they're choosing which characters to focus on by preference or for the sake of story. "It's a little bit of both, because you always have to make sure that your choices feel organic to the storytelling, and really, you have to sort of structure them in the way that they need to be there. You have to have them, or they shouldn't be in the movie. It's a little bit of a dance between the two, where you have big eyes, and you want everybody included in the movie, but you have to go through the process of... what's the best story that you can tell." Which direction would you like to see the MCU go in during Phase 4?

I hope that report turns out to be true. The Incredible Hulk doesn't get too much love from the rest of the MCU.

It might be bull ****, but the Russo's obviously have love for TIH.

If she's in it, hopefully she's not merc'd by Widow in her first 30 seconds of screen time

They even did the whole "Luke Cage" show set in Harlem, exactly where Incredible Hulk's climax happened... not one mention.

Though apparently, somehow Abomination was about one inch away from actually being in Avengers: Age of Ultron. If I had to guess where, I'd imagine the Avengers were going to try and use Abomination to put down Crazed Hulk instead of with Iron Man's Hulkbuster suit.

Yeah, that was a big miss. I was SURE they would reference it when Luke and Diamondback were slugging it out and tearing up the neighborhood right in the middle of the street in the last episode. No such luck.

Coulson did mention that Blonsky was being held in a secret remote facility in Alaska back in season 1 of AOS.

That would have been so much better than the contrived sh*tshow we got, where Iron Man got tough enough armor and that was somehow enough to put him down.

Hulkbuster armor is a thing, though. And Banner even helped design it.

Age of Ultron had many problems, that wasn't one of them.

Oh yeah. That lends credence to Age of Ultron, the Avengers being able to utilize him. AOS was probably even trying to better set that up, but then Whedon (or whoever) decided to go Hulkbuster instead.

Hell, both might have been fun. Tony uses the Hulkbuster suit to buy time until Abomination can be dropped. Or something.

Yeah, but if the Russo's can use him in 3 or 4... I'll be glad they didn't blow their load in Age of Ultron.
