Did I know that about you?
I don't know...this might be the first time I'm coming across that information. But yeah, my experience of the Trek universe is that it's largely an optimistic place, and this show is missing that wave of positivism. Things are darker, and there's more moral ambiguity. Which I don't mind? But...which still feels jarring coming from something with Star Trek in the header.

It's okay, Worf, Martok, Gowron, B'Elanna, and K'Ehleyr all agree with you.

Nike announces Kaepernick is their new spokesperson and a bunch of people are cutting the Nike logos off of everything.

So, I was looking to apply for a job at Twitter.
In Canada, they ask the basics: Name, Current occupation, and contact. In the US, they additionally ask for Age, Gender, Sexual orientation and Ethnicity? No wonder your politics are so messed up. Here, it's against the law, as most of that is considered private information. I feel for you. |

Age is typical. Haven't ever come across "orientation," though I assume like "ethnicity" it's probably only optional and voluntary. I don't think they can legally require anyone to give that info.

It's against the law here to ask age, as it can be discriminatory. You can figure it out, based on work history, but an employer can catch a fine for asking. The Twitter jobs, anyone can apply, and see that it isn't optional. My question is, how does this fit a leftist agenda? The point is not to discriminate right? The best person for the job? Not cherry pick applicants who fit your ideal candidate based on race and gender identification. |

Many, many, many of the low-level HR positions in the states are filled with angry, social-justice wielding people doing the hiring. Here, the term "social justice" is used at the most grass roots of levels - basically a low-level HR person in a position of power (in this case, a job-seekers fate) passing a judgment on that job seeker but not based on your work presentation, but instead based on any element that hiring person can extract a judgement from - even if that judgement is derived from their own "fairness heuristics". Of course, they will report that they are making "team based judgements", or "business branded decisions" but they are lying. Low level HR people behave just as a social criminal in that they get a job that allows them to act out their power fantasy. If an HR person doing the hiring thinks you are like that guy in High School who wouldn't date them, they won't open the gate - it could be as simple as that or any other minor configuration of BS mental algebra they deem appropriate. The "gatekeepers". And even if you get hired, one of the earliest lessons you learn when you enter the work force is that HR is not there for the employee at all, regardless of what they will tell you.
