Does anyone really say 'er'?
I'm not sure about modern day, but back in the day most comic book characters whenever they were caught stammering, trying to lie or make an excuse to cover up something, they would always say 'er' instead of 'uh' or 'um'. Kinda like someone caught trying to steal a cookie "I wasn't trying to steal a cookie, I was... er... counting the cookies to make sure no one stole them". But I have never ever in real life seen anyone ever say that in real life. Not even in live action shows, movies, cartoons, whatever, but it always seems to be appear on the printed page. I mean usually people say uhhh or um... but never have I seen anyone say 'er', like ever.
On another note, I've never seen anyone, regardless of intelligence say duh unless it was in a sarcastic manner.

The r is usually low or almost non existent but I've heard it and used it. But it's more like "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrh....", Norway have a long tradition of uhs, erhs and ums if we forget a word or lost track mid sentence, cause if you stop talking/making sounds the next person will start talking

I was hoping this was a CyberCubed thread...
To answer your question: I dunno. Maybe it's a thing in English speaking countries. But I don't recall the last time I saw someone type "er" or seeing it written on a comic strip. What I see is "eh". |

I remember "Errr..." being used by Guybrush Threepwood in The secret of Monkey Island (1990). I guess that was the first and last time I've seen it.

I was expecting if it was a Cybercubed thread it woulda been more like 'Can you believe it's been 20 years since we've last said 'er'? Like wow man! Time is a thing!'

Just the first sentence. The rest would be in the thread itself.
