I tend to weigh the risk/reward ration on these things. If an actual creator is involved in a crowdfund (Andrew's TMNT stories, Doug TenNapel's Earthworm Jim, etc.), I'm more willing to pay more money, but if it's just some ambitious people without a track record, I usually won't go more than $30 for a project.

Wouldn’t TMNTman have some sort of contact info? I thought he actually had a part in the book.

I do have contact information for him from before the Kickstarter when I was providing him photos to use. And he was in touch with me with updates through roughly the first year after the Kickstarter. But he stopped responding me at about the same time as he stopped updating the Kickstarter.

To this day, I’m surprised there was not A Guide to Collecting TMNT Merchandise from the 80s and 90s in the late 90s or very early 2000s like Collecting Simpsons! An Unofficial Guide to Merchandise from 'The Simpsons' (1999) and The Simpsons’ Collectibles A Handbook and Price Guide (1998 ).

Turtlemania was one of the first biggest events of the 1990s and the only item fans have to show for it is the The Official Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Treasury (1991). TMNT fans deserve more, in my honest opinion.

Also, there is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Collectibles by Matt MacNabb and Robert Barbieri from 2017, but I do not believe it made it to brick and mortar stores like The Official TMNT Treasury did in early 1991.

I suspect the issue is finding all the materials. There are a few collectors who could put together a complete guide for the vintage line. But the only sources for all the lines through the years would likely have been Playmates or Mirage. Playmates didn't really save much from what I understand. Mirage started with their toyline guide. But that's gone now and would be missing everything post sale anyway.

Actually, I may to be to blame as well. I started tmnttoys.com because there weren't any other guides available. For all its faults and oversights, the site has enough information that most who might likewise be inspired to do the same may look at it and decide that there isn't really that much of a need or market for it. Or that replicating everything there is just too much work.

Thinking about the money lost from this project still pisses me off. Oh well.

Me too!!

Is this from the same person? Won't LiveJournal catch up to them as well? I'll buy one maybe once they are published, no pre-orders

Different person. This is worthy of it's own thread. Hopefully with better final results.

I can vouch for Chris as a legit guy with a truly astounding collection. He's the admin of a number of TMNT prototype collector groups on Facebook, and has connections with the communities. He's already contributed some of his images to another book that came out earlier this year, and I have already pre-ordered my Rad Plastic copy!

Yeah, I can vouch, too. Chris is a member here, too, but in many other outside groups is a trusted & invaluable source of vintage Playmates info, materials, images, & much more.

Does he need Nickelodeon/Viacom approval, though?

It's not officially licensed and doesn't use the corporate names in the title. Chris will be using scans and photographs from items in his personal collection to talk about prototypes and the general history of the toyline, so that makes it comparable to a number of other books already released. So far as I know, it won't be sold through major bookstores, and will have a limited print-run, first come, first serve.

The design looks fantastic!

I get the photos, but would the design art not be under copyright?
