TMNT cold blood or warm blooded discussed in the strangest place.

Yeah, I search and found a thread dating all the way back from 2002, I wasn't sure if bumping a thread that was almost a decade old would be a good thing. If the mods think I should, then please close this.

Anyway, has anyone ever wondered whether the TMNT are warm blooded or cold blooded? Based on their activity, they're warm blooded, but there is another way to explain this without resorting to saying the mutagen changed their DNA or something completely sci-fi.

Check this out: http://blip.tv/dinosaur-news/dinosau...ode-11-5465928

Go to the 3:30 mark to get the full details.

I actually remember a funny conversation with the guy about this. I was surprised to see him stick it into his show.

They're cold blooded. The turtles said so in both the 80's toon and the 2k3 show.

Donatello said they're cold blooded in Napoleon Bonafrog, Colusses of the Swamp (old toon).

Michaelangelo said it sucks being cold blooded in Tales Of Leo (2k3 toon).

And yet they are also shown sweating in both series...

Right, and animals that are gigantotherms are cold blooded, but they can maintain a constant body temperature allowing them to act like warm blooded animals.

But if they're coldblooded, shouldn't they have a big lack of energy in like Take me to your Leader (think that's the ep) for example due to all of the snow and the cold? I always thought that with reptiles, when the temperatures around them dropped, which in part causes their body temperatures to drop, they sleep.

*Should probably click the link to see what was said for it* ^^

If the Turtles were actually coldblooded, they'd need a constant source of heat to stay as active as they do. They don't. They'd also go into hibernation or "frozen state" during the winter. They haven't. Reptiles don't sweat, but most warm-blooded/mammal-like animals do. They sweat.

Ergo, they would have to be warm-blooded, but probably their body temperatures hover around in the mid 80's. Thus, they'd be more vunerable to cold conditions than humans or true mammals. A body temperature that low in us is fatal, but would be normal in the Turtles and allow them to survive.

Although it's been stated in both cartoons, I think only the comic Soul's Winter explored more on cold blooded TMNT and the effect of it

Well in the episodes where they mention they are cold blooded, how exactly is it stated? I mean unless it was said in a serious conversation it could have very well been just a joke since they are turtles when they mention it. Like an Irish guy mentioning "oh I drink and I'm short tempered", but he's just mentioning it because of the stereotype not necessarily because its true. It depends on the context if they were talking about something scientific then yeah it's likely true but counting Mikey said it in 2k3 and most lines in the OT were meant to be jokes, I'll just assume they were both jokes.

Again, gigantothermy.

There was a time when a paleontologist friend of mine asked me to go through the Mirage books and catalog how many times we see them sweating. I never did get around to doing that...
