Irate Irene on the East Coast

I couldn't find a thread that concerned this. I thought there would be a lot of discussion on the matter!

I'm on Long Island, so we're going to get some of Irene's fury. To the South and those areas used to hurricanes, we are probably a laughing-stock because everyone here is going somewhat crazy, rushing to the stores and cleaning out their water supplies. The local gas station actually ran out of gas, too.

It's good to prepare, of course, and my household is ready for Irene. The only consequence I fear is a power outage for a few days - I think my windows are strong enough to face the weather. If I lose power, I will be vacant from the Drome until it comes back. This saddens me, and is just one of many reasons why losing power would be terrible.

Who else is bracing for Irene's fury?

I'm not, but good luck to those who are about to face it. It sounds like it'll be a massive headache for the East Coast. My thoughts are with you guys as you battle the storm.

Well, we're just starting to get rain on the NH seacoast. We've got emergency supplies ready just in case. And if we get some real bad flooding, I may just take some pictures with the boat in the backyard... The western half is expected to get more rain, up to ten inches in some places. In the eastern half, it should be more wind.... which could be bad if a tree falls on the cars or the house...

It's about to get real here in NJ. I'm afraid I'm going to wake up tomorrow morning and find my car smashed by a tree. We're also getting some flooding problems in my basement, so we're trying to get that under control...

I am not in the path of the storm obviously. Three of my really good friends who I consider to be brothers and sister to me have already been hit by the storm. I do know that two are safe and sound, just without power since the storm made landfall. I am keeping everyone on the East Coast in my prayers as they endure Hurricane Irene which is still a very large category 1 hurricane. I hope that the recovery speed is quick and not too painful.

Eesh.. be careful, guys. We had some heavy rains a bit earlier, but it's slowed down. Apparently some people in Virginia Beach are having fun despite the danger... I think these guys are insane for running around.

Two somewhat large trees down in my backyard, probably around 20-25 feet tall, the top of one skimming my low-rise roof. Great...

I just saw on the news that some rugby players from Australia were sliding in the rain soaked streets in New York.

Finally got power back. Not a lot of rain, but a TON of wind. had some trees come down on my brother's truck (Again!), and the garden's growing like crazy with all the water...
