Talking New Interviews with 1987 TMNT Voices

Hey everyone,

Wanted to share the newest episode of Cowabunga Corner. I was lucky enough to get to sit down and interview Townsend Coleman! I know how much the original cartoon series means to a lot of people here on the Technodrome Forums, so felt the interviews of those cast members deserved it's own topic.

Here's a link to the Townsend Coleman Interview:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkzNPLOktdc

And for anyone who missed it, earlier this season we also interviewed Pat Fraley. Here's a direct link to his interview as well.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbB5PSquUck

As I get interviews with other original series cast members uploaded, I'll share the link here for anyone interested.

Hope everyone enjoys what we got so far!

General Krang would be nice as I've mentioned on the official Nick forum and The Kraang hasn't been cast yet, though I wouldn't count on it given his mention of no current voiceover projects. Still, it would be a good idea next time anyone has a chance to interview a VA from either the 1987 or 2003 series to ask them a question about their thoughts on the upcoming Nick series.

As a Rob Paulsen fan I wonder if you'll be interviewing him...then again he's not just a voice actor from the Fred Wolf series. Can't wait to see them all.

LOL I wouldn't dream of taking the documentary from them. I saw a teaser at Detroit Fanfare, they're doing a GREAT job... it's just taking awhile. Besides, I like not having to charge people to show what I got... I put it together with the help of some friends at our own pace and share what we want to share. And trust me, I got a LOT more.

Sorry as of now we still have not got to sit down with Rob. I will keep trying.

I'd be very happy to interview Jim Cummings, if I can get a hold of him. He's still one of the guys I have not met or got the chance to set up an interview with. If I do get to interview him I will post about it here on the Technodrome.

I'm glad you're enjoying Cowabunga Corner. It's something I'm really enjoying working on. Hope I can keep it up for a long time.

I should be going back out to Los Angeles next summer for a visit again, if anyone on here does have any connections to people who've voiced TMNT that you'd like us to interview just give them my contact information. PM me for my email address to give them.

I have one more person this season who worked on the original cartoon series as a voice. Though that interview will be posted in a few months.

Great interviews, Ms. Ivey! I'd even take that voice sample of when Townsend says "Cowabunga Corner" as part of your bumper introduction for future videos. From what I've heard, I actually support the different voices for the movies as it gave it a distinct feel from the cartoon and I feel the casting directors did a good job adding some variety for the movies.

I would personally like to see an interview with Jennifer Darling, as absolutely no interviews about
her work (even text) have been posted anywhere from what I've found. Just a brief greeting on Youtube is all I can find of her. And, Michele has interviewed Rob Paulsen in the past with an audio interview, so I'd wait to interview him again. After all, he's working on the new show for us!

thanks for all the work, michele!I mean you really do a lot of things here that take a lot of work and in the end entertain us all very much
great interview again, I just were curious if the ot voice actors were in any way approached by 4kids or someone for the turtles forever movie?at least here you would think that they would HAVE to get them backbut I guess its a thing of contracts and corporate interests, right?if you have asked him about it could you share his thaughts on that?
also since rob got a job on nicks new show I wonder if he would audition for it or if he has auditioned for this already?I don't know if rob paulson was asked to audition or if he came out of interest himself to nick...
thanks again!
greetings

I really did enjoy the voices for the movie too, though I like asking and seeing what the cast thought of that. Back when I was younger I found it odd when there was new voices to the Turtles. Though I didn't think about how the cartoon voices felt about it, till the 4Kids series was coming out and I saw their reactions to the 2007 movie. That's why I asked him about that, to see if it was the same back in the day.

I would love to interview anyone who worked on the original series as long as I can get in touch with them and meet up. About that Rob Paulsen interview, I was also a guest on the show so that was not really my interview with him. I'll like to meet up and interview Rob as I have mentioned this a few times to him we just haven't been able to get it arranged. It was great getting to be a part of that interview.

4Kids never tried to go to the original voice actors for anything. I wish they did for Turtles Forever. Though I believe it's a Union thing. As Townsend even expressed in this interview, they never came for them about the show.

With the new Turtle Cartoon, Nickelodeon went to Rob they knew what they wanted for the series. Rob talked about it on an interview he did a few months back, where he says how he had to think about it before taking the job.

Its not odd that the voices in the original movies were different than the cartoon. After all it was an entirely separate universe, so a new cast makes sense.

Just think about how many different incarnations of Batman or Spiderman there are, and how each time they use different actors for all the movies and cartoons. TMNT is no different.

thanks for answering my questions...I did catch him saying that 2k3 team never knocked on their doors but I had wondered if it was any different with this special project...you know as it really includes the old team...now I know...
man, I sure hope you get to talk to all of the remaining people from the ot and other tmnt media....maybe along the way you even get to meet people from behind tmnts scenes that you hadn't even thaught about...
greetings

Over the past couple days, I've been watching a marathon of all of your videos, and I honestly feel it is an essential way for a fan to really get introduced into becoming a new fan! These aren't really brand new, but they are recent enough that they are quite interesting to listen to.

However, I found on a fairly obscure site a few audio interviews of voices. These are not like anything you've seen so far as these are LONG, with the Townsend Coleman interview lasting 2 hours and 46 minutes! And these interviews all have a common forumla:

1. How they got into voice acting.
2. How they auditioned for TMNT, and if they read the comic.
3. Favorite characters they voiced
4. Their favorite episode
5. If they played the video games
6. If they watched the movies/4kids and their opinions
7. Hypotheticals: The interviewer gives some mini-plots, and tells the VA to perform in their original voice.
8. Their opinions on Turtles Forever

Plus much more! I added some of my own pictures to make it more interesting than just a still image.

So, here are these interviews from 2009:

Awesome interviews! I am glad they agreed to such a thing. Townsend did such a great job and is apart of my childhood. I only wish Nick was smart enough to bring him on. Any chance of a Rob Paulsen or James interview the two of them and Townsend can never be surpassed in their roles no matter what and no matter who voice Mike,Raph, and Shredder at least IMHO!

Here are two more.

Barry Gordon interview

And, the first complete audio interview of him ever online:
Peter Renaday interview

These are great, in-depth interviews that can really give you a comprehensive study and some new hypothetical entertainment with these great gentlemen.

The funny thing is that as a kid, it never occurred to me that Donatello and the Quik Bunny had the same voice. Looking back on it, they totally do!
