Punk Frogs question

Why ARE they called Punk Frogs, when they're more closer to being Surfer Frogs? I mean, even when I was young, & before I knew/was reminded they were called Punk Frogs, my friends & I used to call them either just "the Frogs", or "the Surf Frogs".

Could be! They all have the name of kind of jerk rulers or conquerors from history, and were created to be a group of villains, so I always figured thats where the name came from. Punks as in street thugs, not Punk as in the sub genre of rock. At least thats how I interpreted it.

Yeah, they're not punk rockers just punks in the old sense of the world. "An expendable youth".

Always some of my favorite characters. Love the toys even though they didn't look like the show and only two were made. I just always assumed they were punks, not into Punk Music.

Because someone at Playmates thought it would sell toys.

And it worked I don't think it was really Playmates driven, otherwise I think we woulda got all 4 instead of just the 2. I guess I don't remember, maybe the 2 they made were both peg warmers but I always liked them as toys when I was little.

All this may be true, but when you hear the word punk, even in the street thug sense, you don't think of Hawaiian shirts, shorts & surfboards, tho. :/ Normally, even in the street thug sense of the word, you think leather jackets, jeans, & chains, etc. & IMHO both Bebop & Rocksteady are more punk, in both versions of the word, than the frogs are. I mean, don't get me wrong or anything, I still like them, heck, I've been wanting therm in toy for years, all 4 properly done, but they seem more like Surfer Frogs, heck, I'd even accept Skater Frogs, over Punk Frogs, 'cause, you know, skating IS just street surfing. & just as long as they're not called the "Tacky Tourist Frogs" then I'm fine with it.

The "skateboard kids" from my hometown were often times referred to as "punks" by the older folks, so that makes it resonate even more for me

True bit not old old folks, like 40-50 year old people and parents of non skateboarders.

That makes me think of Kup in TF Animated Movie talking about Hot Rod

And street punks are associated with punk rock when it comes to music.
