Pokemon Black 2 / Pokemon White 2

So it was announced that there is going to be new games come this fall and that they will continue in the Black and White world. Other then that nothing really known. I've got to say I'm excited. I really hope that it's a sequel.

Smells like Nintendo wanting to turning their 3rd edition (Yellow, Crystal etc) game for this PKMN gen into two separate versions and watch the $ flow in.

Unless this actually warrants the "2" by being an actual sequel. I believe that would require the game having an entirely new continent, or a vastly expanded or changed Unova to explore and at the very least new starters and previous gen Pokemon in the wild to open up the team possibilities for the main game beyond the strict "all new" Pokemon of B/W. Some further evolutions of B/W Pokemon would also be nice. Anything less would really just make this a scummy way to sell two separate copies of the same game again.

Still feels a bit weird to me, though. Nintendo is getting into this strange habit of tacking older names into new products as if they're afraid they need to keep very strict brand recognition. Case in point - Wii U.

Yeah with the 2 in the name I hope that it is a sequel and not a new game and not just a slightly changed third edition for this Gen. It would be really cool I think to have a direct sequel for once. It hasn't been done before, all the games are their own little universe so to have a direct sequel would be a first.

I don't know about letting you catch older Gen pokemon though. I kind of liked that you couldn't find any of them in the wild in the b/w I think adding them to b1/w2 would ruin it a little. I'm sure there will be some new evolutions though. We know from the pictures that have been released that Kyurem will have a black form and a white form.

I also like that there was only new PKMN in B/W, but unless they're putting a lot of new Pokemon in this one limiting you to the B/W Gen would be pretty poor for a sequel. That's why I'd like to see more older Pokemon available.

I understand the desire to have more pokemon in a game but at the same time I think it get's overwhelming when you have access to all the different ones.

Pokemon has never really been known for it's storyline. So this idea of a sequel is appealing because if they don't include new pokemon or some major twist to the game it's just going to be B/W again. Which I'm sure I'd play cause for some reason I play each new one that come out. I'd like to see something different and pushed for this sequel. I mean there isn't much difference in B/W to begin with.

I don't have the energy to refute what you're saying in detail, especially because I'm on my phone. I'll just say you're expecting way too much, yet want too little and move on.

That would be my theory, as I'm leaning towards the latest "Platnium"/"Crystal"/"Yellow" spinoff, myself. Dogasu of Dogasu's Backpack offers this observation on his site's main page (scroll down to his 2/27 update):

"There are a couple of interesting things I noticed about these games that makes me think Game Freak isn't done with the Generation I callbacks that they started doing with the original Black & White. One, these two games will give Generation V four non-remake main series games, the same number of games Japan had back in Generation I. Two, I'm thinking the way they simply added a "2" to the titles of these two DS games is a reference to the original Pocket Monsters 2, the working title for Pocket Monsters Gold and Pocket Monsters Silver."

http://dogasu.bulbagarden.net/

I haven't played B/W, so I'll let you decide on the above paragraph's validity. I didn't know about "Pocket Monsters 2" being their working title for G/S, so anything is possible.

I don't know if the statement being valid or not really has any impact on the conversation at hand. It seems like minor observations with little or no value or information leading to further understanding of the actual state of what B/W2 actually is.

Perhaps, but all we can do for the moment is speculate, anyway. I thought the "Pocket Monsters 2" aspect might make it at least a little germane to this. Oh, well.

Anyway, "Pokemon + Nobunaga's Ambition" will be released in Japan on the 17th. Hopefully, Nintendo will throw us a tidbit or two about B/W 2 during that media blitz. One can hope, anyway.

It sounds like Pok'emon Gray! It would match up the patterns set in the past.

Does anyone get the idea that we have enough Pok'emon and generations? I love it still but I cannot keep up with all of the regions,gyms,pok'emon...it makes my head spin!

When they announced that there'd be no older pokemon in black and white until the end, I was pretty excited. Then I got the game and was pretty bored. I was missing my Zubats and Geodudes in the cave. Didn't even get to the third gym. Purrloin is still the greatest thing ever, though. I love that pokemon.

This is more along the lines of what I was thinking.
