The First Purge

a Prequel to The Purge is coming out on July 4 titled "The First Purge".
The Teaser takes a stab at Donald Trump.

These movies sound so dumb, are they any good? I see people always raving about them.

To me they seemed like a rip-off of the Japanese manga/movie Battle Royale which had the similar concept, they sounded really cool at the time but I remember not liking either film.

Battle Royale is about fighting till there's one left standing. This is about getting away with everything for 12 hours or something like that.

The movie may be titled The First Purge, but I hope it's the last

I'm OK checking it out. I loved the first two but the wheels really came off in the third one. There's nowhere really to go but explore the beginning of it.

Apparently they are doing a Purge TV show, too?

The Purge: Election Year was the last one and ended the whole Purge concept. They are starting from the beginning to show how it all began. since they can't do another movie after how Election Year ended, but these movies took place far in the future.

according to the Wiki for the first movie. It takes place in the year 2022, and the very first Purge happened in the year 2017, so this Prequel could about the first one that took place that year.

They can follow that up with stories that take place in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and which all leads up to The Purge in 2022.

I just hope it doesn't get too wrapped up in some vaguely Trump-like president doing liberals' worst fears kind of stuff.

The TV Show is about how people live on the days prior to the Purge.

I enjoy the Purge movies as a guilty pleasure so I'm looking forward to this one.

Here's the official site
http://www.thefirstpurge.com

And about this movie, here's what it says.

Behind every tradition lies a revolution. Next Independence Day, witness the rise of our country’s 12 hours of annual lawlessness. Welcome to the movement that began as a simple experiment: The First Purge.

To push the crime rate below one percent for the rest of the year, the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) test a sociological theory that vents aggression for one night in one isolated community. But when the violence of oppressors meets the rage of the marginalized, the contagion will explode from the trial-city borders and spread across the nation.

Coming off the most successful film in the series, The Purge: Election Year, creator James DeMonaco (writer/director of The Purge, The Purge: Anarchy and The Purge: Election Year) returns alongside the producers of this worldwide phenomenon: Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum (Insidious series, Get Out, Split), Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Ouija series, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), and DeMonaco’s longtime production partner, Sébastien K. Lemercier (Assault on Precinct 13, Four Lovers).

The First Purge is directed by Gerard McMurray (Burning Sands), working from a screenplay once again written by DeMonaco.
