You're not talking about the Generation X one, are you?
Because I've still got that badboy on VHS.

Yeah. The one with Jubilee and other mutants who were never in the fox films.

Nice to see plot details. Disappointed it will in fact be a straight remake but it's ok as long as it's good and different enough.

I like that they wanna show how things got going. That's something I always thought would be cool, to see how the equipment was built and stuff. I hope they finally explain all the stuff on top of the car. I've always wondered about it.

I don't care what the naysayers think. There's been complaining about what a GB3/Sequel should be for years. They were gonna complain no matter what it turned out to be.

I would have had Ray (with Egon before) hand over the business and be like mentors or something but I'm still really excited for this. Still kinda hard to believe another movie is finally happening.

Yep. Soooo, maybe they could save everyone on both sides the headache, and just, y'know... NOT do the movie? Seems pretty simple. Studio doesn't waste anyone's time or money on a bad movie, fans don't get anything to cry about, it's win/win. You don't NEED to do another movie. Especially now, it's more pointless than ever. Really, it's been pointless since about 1995.

I don't get the "It existed once, now let it exist again... in half-hearted, watered-down form" thing people have. I get nostalgia. I do. People are nostalgic for things the way they were. So, why people don't just settle for having one great movie, one pretty okay movie, and a pretty-good-for-its-era cartoon show, and insist on muddying the waters with More Stuff that isn't going to do anything but tarnish the brand name, is a complete mystery to me.

"No, I want a crappy New version of something I liked when I was a kid!" Why? Just go have fun with the Good stuff that already exists. I know, you could just as easily say, "Well, you can just ignore the movie and do the same thing." True, but why that logic is faulty is, they should Not be making the movie to begin with. Ideally, people shouldn't have to "ignore" something that shouldn't even exist in the first place.

There are "reasons" to do the movie. I get that. There are no GOOD reasons to do the movie, however. Zero.

For me the "crappier version of something I liked as a kid" is Ghostbusters 2.
If that couldn't tarnish the brand name, nothing will.

If this movie is a smash hit, no one is going to forget the original.
If the movie is a flop, no one is going to forget the original.

The original is untouchable.

If they had made this movie with Seth Green, Seth Rogan, James Franco, and Craig Robinson...would there be this level of outrage?
I honestly doubt it.

Depends. I'd still hate it, and I'm pretty sure most people would. It's just a different Awful Idea. Doing a third movie at all, at this point, is an Awful idea.

The concept worked in a certain time and place, largely due to the charisma of the people playing the roles. Changing literally anything about it risks "breaking" it. Beyond that, is the issue that literally nobody asked for this. Yes, for a while, many people including myself thought a third movie could work, under very specific circumstances. The movie they are actually making, though, is pretty far off from what anyone actually wanted, once upon a time.

Once they did the video game, the third movie became entirely pointless. They even admitted that a huge reason they did a game and not a movie, is that more of the people most likely to care would be likely to play a game rather than see a movie, thus saving everyone a ton of hassle and aggravation. I have a magazine interview somewhere from 2008-ish with Akroyd basically saying, "So many of the fans have moved on, and movies are such a huge investment, that if it wasn't perfect it'd be a waste of everybody's time, and games are much less of a risk and at least this way we can still put the story out there that we actually wanted to do." Not an exact quote, but that was the gist of it.

I'm not surprised that at this stage in his life, a few bucks from the studio can completely change his mind, but that doesn't mean he was Wrong back then. I love Dan, but he's kind of a putz. I'm not going to let the guy who thought Blues Brothers 2000 was a good idea direct my enthusiasm.

And again, "every ongoing franchise eventually suffers crap, it doesn't erase the original" is NO excuse. There is never ANY excuse for making bad movies on purpose, just because "Brand Name". I never met Harold Ramis, but I'm *pretty* sure based on things I've heard/read him him say about films in general, that he would NOT be okay with this project moving forward the way that it is, and like I said, the way it seemed like they were just waiting for him to die so they could move forward unimpeded really taints the entire thing. 25 years of start-stop, because "If we're gonna do it at all, it has to be Perfect"... then, suddenly, "Yeah, let's just throw anything out there. S'just a stupid movie, who cares?"

Another half dozen garbage movies every weekend, and people want MORE of them "just because". As if we aren't already drowning in garbage. I don't get it.

Ha, waiting for Ramis to die.

Bill has always been the one holding things back. I'm still surprised this is finally moving forward. Everyone else was in agreement to do another one and other scripts were written (one even leaked recently).

If they were "waiting for someone to die" it would have been Bill Murray. What a horrible thing to imply in the first place. Talk about Hollywood cynicism.

Whether or not Bill did it, Harold and Dan were still the ones "steering" it, because they created it, and even if they HAD to do it without Bill, it could have at least been true to the original in some way other than the name.

And you don't find it AT ALL convenient that they announced the third movie AND that it was going to be an all-female cast gimmick less than a week after Ramis died? Seriously? I know I'm more cynical than most, but... THAT is only true because more people should rightfully be More Cynical. If you don't think the studio saw Ramis being "out of the way" as a "gift", so they could make any movie(s) they wanted, well... I can't help you. It's all right there in how quickly "We can't do a third movie" became "We're starting a whole new franchise!" as soon as the one guy with any restraint was out of the picture. Don't kid yourself.

Haha wow. No.

Go look up all the supposed dates and announcements given out over the years.

There was a reboot reported well before he passed away too that had just cameos of the original team.

I'm cautiously optimistic. I was never a huge Ghostbusters fan, only seeing the movies, and not really watching much of The Real Ghostbusters. That and I honestly like Jones and McKinnon on SNL, so I'm sure I'll be ok with half the GBs...unlike the Seths Green and Rogan, Franko, and Robinson version, because i only like Green and tollerate Craig Robinson on good day.

The movie was going to happen, eventually, no matter what. It's a popular franchise, so it's a safer bet than a new idea. It is most likely going to turn a profit, even if it sucks. I'm not saying it's "good" way to go about business but, it's reasonable.

I don't know Jones or McKinnon, and I think McCarthy is genuine hack. I had been praying for McCarthy's exclusion, since the word "female" came up. BUT - I see no reason why the Ghostbusting concept wouldn't work just fine with a new cast, and I think the female cast idea is a fun twist. I love Ghostbusters, too, but I don't see why the idea of a reboot or a new cast is so offensive. I would never cast new actors as the original characters in a million years. But I don't see why the idea of Ghostbusters has to be shelved forever.

If you ask me, in the case of Ghostbusters, if you're not able to get the original cast, new characters is the way to go. Because everyone here would be 80x as mad if they had announced a new Venkman, Winston, etc. And, I believe that if you're going to remake something, you should put a spin on it, so it has a reason to exist alongside the original. And this movie has that.

I'll give it a shot. Will it be as good as the original? No. That movie clicked with pop-culture in a way that can't be re-created. But I don't think the original cast and crew could have pulled that off, either. Heck, Dumb & Dumber To did everything the same, and people were still disappointed...

I'm not terribly excited about this movie...

However, they added new characters in the past with the animated series "Extreme Ghostbusters" from the late '90s. I think it was a spin-off of "The Real Ghostbusters."

I'm kind of surprised no one's made any comparisons...

Because there's no comparison. I'm not saying EGB was great, but it was about Egon passing on the torch to a new generation and even had a team up episode with all the originals.

They're still better looking than those two ladies in the middle.

Ah well, as long as they make us laugh.

I wonder if the uniforms will be radically redesigned.
