Question Europe Releases

In the Hero Turtles show, nunchucks were removed. Were nunchucks removed from the Hero Turtles carded action figures? If so, how? Weren't they banned?

They were basically forbidden from being shown in films and TV shows, as it was deemed "imitable behaviour" - there was a spate of nunchuk-related injuries during the kung-fu craze in the 1970s, and it was easy to make a set, plus the guy in charge of censorship hated them, so they were basically edited out of everything.

The toys, comics & games still had them though.

Cause removing toy accessories would be too much work.

Only films & TV were subject to any censorship, from the British Board of Film Classification. They didn't have the power to censor toys.

Oh. Didn't know that. Was the 1990 film censored?

Yep, absolutely butchered to remove any scene featuring the 'chuks. Pretty much ruined the ending, too. Luckily we have the original movies & cartoon on DVD in their unedited form now.
