Any report I had to do, you research online. You don't need to look things up in a book anymore, we're not in 1995.

Right. Books just stopped existing. There aren't any libraries or bookstores anymore.

How does homeschooling even work? I've only heard of that being a thing still in USA. Why does it happen? is it because the country is so massive that many kids live too far away from actual schools, making them unable to attend schools?

I thought only religious people were home-schooled, or famous kid actors/actress in TV shows/movies usually say they're home schooled because if you're famous you can't go to a normal public school.

Any kid you've ever seen in a TV show or movie over the years is most likely home schooled.

Really? That's odd. Here kids of celebrities go to school just like any other kids. granted they usually go to more expensive private schools and such but they go to school regardless.

Not necessarily. Many supposedly do receive on-set schooling with tutors (as opposed to true home schooling), but some actual schools, albeit probably small ones, do exist for working kids. There's one I knew of that an actor I'd liked had attended, though can't recall the name of it right now.

As Cubed said, a lot of it is done for religious reasons and being opposed to what is taught in normal schools vs what they want their kid to know/learn/believe. Esp the evils of science, history, and health class. (There are some home school curriculums, programs, or whatever that aren't religious based, but they are far fewer.)

I was actually home schooled very briefly, until second grade.

That changed because my mother was too overwhelmed with her three kids in their own psychological...stuff. I was a much more Aspergers-y kid, Kyle was Bipolar Meltdown Central, and James had verbal dyspraxia from the time he was two years old to...I guess around the end of elementary school.

I think I would try to homeschool my own kids, if only because of how bad the American school system is getting.

So there's the snippet into MY life story

I still try to go to my local library when I can get the time. It might not be the one I grew up going to, but the relocation is super nice.

I know I'm being biased having worked at a library but like films and video games a physical copy is tangible, digital is not.

Libraries also do provide internet access for people who can't at home because of extraneous circumstances. So there's an answer for that.

Though, now that I think about it...nearly everything that happens in this show would cause a social media storm?

Self-automated trash cleaners? Storm!
Self-automated trash cleaners start stealing turtles? Storm!
Small boy's experiment makes the heat so bad he nearly kills everyone? Storm!
New York will be floundering in trying to control the problems that show up every other day!

True, but even when I was working on my Master's ten years ago a movement to scan both new and old literature so it would be available digitally was already well underway.

This is true, but Digital isn't without flaws and challenges either.
There's the question of format, and upkeep.
Which technologies are compatible with which machines.
Which institutions use which software and for how long.

Most schools have a school bus for transportation so location isn’t a factor as far as I know. From what I’ve heard it’s a belief that the child is better off being homeschooled because of a very flawed and failed America public school system.

In this country though, it also really very much depends on the school and school district. (Maybe state and town in some cases.) Some are crappy, others can be pretty decent.

I've run the gambit from my cruddy middle school in my not-so-well-handled area school district, to a pretty great high school in a small, separate school district (but my HS still nearby) I was able to jump ship and go to thanks to the start of a choice program.

My default district was pretty large and was not so good at handling their money... I think they've improved over the years, but back then, eesh. There's worse, but that middle school was the last straw. No way in hell was I sticking around for the high school I'd have been destined to go to had I not gotten the heck out.

I was in a pretty decent one all the way from K-12 but I have seen a few districts since then that are cringe-worthy. Then one in my current town of residence apparently has a downright sh***y math program. Kids who can't even make change- and in high school.... Literally worked with a girl who did not know how to give change for 1$. Suddenly homeschooling makes so much sense.
