Yeah, I just thought it was an interesting comment on the fluidity of language, worthy of a little discussion

This is only loosely about profanity, and more just about how much fun and confusing languages can be.

I used to date a Brit, and I'll never forget the conversation where we went round and round in circles of confusion because of "braces" and "Suspenders."

Braces: America = Orthodontia
UK = Suspenders
Suspenders: America = Hold your pants up
UK = Hold your stockings up

And then there was that one time we were driving around in the States and we happened upon a billboard for the candy company: Fanny Farmer.

Okay, that's pretty great.

(Also, aren't there different definitions for "stockings" in UK and US language? I've always thought of them as being really, really long socks)

That much I'm fairly certain, is the same. Stockings were/are shorter (ie only thigh-high) pantyhose, AFAIK.

Also not helpful in that particular conversation...Pants.

America = Trousers/Slacks
UK = underpants/knickers

Neither, it was an off-the-cuff observation.
