I just upgraded the forums from phpBB 2.0.1 to 2.0.3. This should hopefully fix most of the problems that AOL users were having. Let me know if you come across any errors.

Today, I upgraded the forums from phpBB 2.0.3 to 2.0.4. This fixes several bugs and increases stability and security. Let me know if you come across any errors.

I have been getting lot's of DNS errors Today. Could this be because of the Forum upgrade?
Krang
01-19-2003, 03:44 AM
Actually, I think it's because our server has been acting up lately (which is also the reason why the random image and quotes on the main page don't show up every once in a while). Hopefully, our host will fix the problems soon.
Karpo_007
01-19-2003, 03:51 AM
Oh... Would the "Debug mode" things be the servers fault too?
Krang
01-19-2003, 04:04 AM
When and where did you see that?
Karpo_007
01-19-2003, 05:24 AM
2 times actually. First I tried to reach New TMNT forume, then sometime later in General TMNT. It said something like "Debug mode" and some parameters and such and I couldn't access the forum. I were smarter I would have taken a screen shot..
Krang
01-19-2003, 05:27 AM
Ok, I got that error too. It looks like yet another problem with our server...

CURSE YOU AOL!!! :x
Is it just an AOL members problem and is that the reason I couldn't post for the last few days?
Krang
01-22-2003, 02:02 AM
Yep, the posting problem you were having had to do with AOL. But I edited a setting on the board so that the problem hopefully won't come back.

Okay, I'm getting problems with the forums, too. Every time I log on, the forum acts like I haven't logged on at all. So, I log on a second time, which finally allows me to post. However, once I log on twice, all of the folder icons are marked yellow, or "read." It's driving me crazy because I can't tell which threads have new posts since I last visited. :dead: Is this happening to anyone else?
Karpo_007
01-22-2003, 05:40 PM
No, I don't have any problems at all right now. After week end the server problems seemed to stop. After that everyting has worked perfectly for me.

Cool, it actually seems to be running faster now.. unless that's just my imagination. But I am pretty sure the forums are running faster
Krang
06-26-2003, 02:30 AM
It should be even faster now, since I added a template caching feature to reduce server load (so we don't get suspended again) and speed up page loading times. If anyone notices problems such as blank pages, let me know.

GK Punk

I think it said "Page temporarely suspended"
Krang
06-27-2003, 12:13 AM
Yeah, the page was suspended because we were using up too much resources on the server. I'm not sure what caused this, but I added the template caching feature so that it is less likely to happen again.

Woah... The forums are definitely loading faster for me. I'm on a 56k modem for the summer, so I'm very thankful for the upgrade. :D
BTW Krang, I still get that strange error I reported in this thread. I log on, but then all the folders are marked "read," my name appears on the bottom, but the forum says I'm not logged in. I have to log in twice. Dunno if this happens because I don't log on as often as I used to, or if it's some sort of bug.

Wow, I haven't updated this thread in a long time. I always update the forums as soon as a new version of phpBB is released, so recently, the forums were upgraded from phpBB 2.0.9 to phpBB 2.0.10, which is just another bug fix release. Also, it looks like some progress has been made on phpBB 2.2 and a beta may be released soon, so as soon as that happens, I'll put up a test board to let everyone try it out (like I did last time).
Oh, and one more thing...

Although a vBulletin 3.0.9 was released, it was a minor update that I didn't have time to take care of, so the forums have instead been upgraded from 3.0.8 to 3.5.0. You may notice some differences right away with the editing form, and there are a few new improvements here and there (try typing a few letters of a member's name when starting a new PM ;) ). There are also tons of improvements to the moderation tools which will make things easier on the mods and I. Anyway, if you notice any errors, please let me know by posting here.

I can't upload my new avatar, this time an animated one. When I'm trying to do so, the "You may not upload animated images." notice pops up.
Well, that is strange for me, because some other users actually have animated avatars, so they could have uploaded them before.:|
EDIT: And of course, it is within the uploading standards - 100x75 and below 29.7 kbs.

Now here's something I noticed on another board I post at sometimes. They have this feature, like a "b" between [ ] makes the writing bold and IMG lets a picture appear. They have [Youtube] and it lets you insert a youtube video to click and play. It's quite cool and I'm sure the board would profit from that. So I wanted to ask if there's a possibility and whether you're willing to install it here?
Krang
11-11-2006, 02:25 AM
Those are called BBCodes, and we do have some of them already. Here's (http://forums.thetechnodrome.com/misc.php?do=bbcode) a list. We don't have one for Youtube yet, but it would be easy to implement, so I would be willing to add it as long as it would be useful.

Thanks to both of you for letting me know. The server has been having some load issues today, but hopefully it is only a temporary problem. We're probably going to have to move the forums to another server before the new cartoon begins, because the current one won't be able to handle the traffic.
k, cool. thanks Krang! u guys are doin fine

I suppose that may hold a little excitement though, no?

I'd say! Hey Krang, what's the likelihood of ever getting a Technodrome app that can give you post and PM updates, etc.?

It sure will once I know that the server can handle it. :)

Good idea! If there's enough interest, I can definitely look into it.

Now that we're on our new server, I had the chance to move the avatar and profile pic data to the file system rather than the database to speed those up a little (not that it was particularly needed since the new server is much faster already, but every bit helps). If you notice any problems with missing avatars/profile pics or have trouble uploading them, please let me know.
Also, I replaced the multi-quote icons with ones that are less confusing. Hopefully, that will encourage more people to use the feature.

Oh, nice! For some reason I had to refresh the page in order to see the change though. I think this is a great idea. Hopefully more people will start paying attention to it. I know I didn't figure it out until a year or so ago. I know most people who click on it for the first time get a little confused that nothing seems to happen initially, but it's really great once you get used to doing it.
