Does anyone know why the Uk version was called Teenage muntant hero turtles when the original was Ninja Tutles?

The censors wouldn't let them use the word ninja....They also, I believe, edited out Mikeys Nunchucks.
Wasn't it because of an assassination thing? Or was it a gang thing?

Dunno....But it WAS because the censors didn't want it....I dunno what led the censors to ban it tho.

So, do they edit them out now? It suprised me that they used them again. Although, I'm really glad. Ton-fa's are cool, but they aren't Mikey-cool.
Why was the word ninja outlawed there and what was the problem with the nunchucks.

Well, apparently tey thought nunchuks were too violent....And Bo's, Katana's, and Sai's aren't....

Because, at the time the BBC had some really stupid censors who thought that because some gang members used Nunchaku then anyone who uses nunchaku must be a gang member. And, these same idiots thought that Ninja were assasains (they're more like commando/monk hybrids if they're anything that's so easily described), and so banned the word "Ninja" from kids TV.
I guess those idiot censors either retired, removed their craniums from their rectums, or were simply canned, because they don't do that to the new show. (Also, the new-shows producers have a bit more guts)
So, I was right! It was a gang thing AND an assassin thing! I feel proud. :D
And I'm glad that the show is finally nunchaku approved in England!

I, for one, am surprised that they went to such trouble to censor TMNT in Europe - I seem to remember being able to access adult channels in our hotel room in Belgium without having to pay for it. Whether I wanted to watch it or not, it was there. Anyway, very curious.

My friend went there and they have nude chicks and people having sex in TV ads I dont see how the word Ninja would hurt someone but whatever I really dont care it was the same show and Mike never really use his weapons in the old show. If I remember right he used a grappling hook alot. Or maybe im losing it and I need to go back and watch the old show again

Even stranger is that I recently saw the original openings for TMHT and it seems that they still have many blatant shots of Mikey's nunchucks left in. Sure, some have been edited, but many still remain. Does anyone know if the Mikey toys in the UK came with chucks or not?

They probly only cut out scenes they could where he had them it would be to hard to remove them from every scene

'Cuz them thar ninjaz are evil, satanically-inspired cop-killers that gorge on the blood of virgin infants in their evil, satanically-inspired cannibalistic rituals of satanically-inspired evil!!
After that, they totally flip out without thinking twice and slaughter a whole town with nothing but their trusty ninja-to!!
Then, they, like, totally waste an entire army of pirates. No joke, my older brother told me!!
Dude, seriously, like one time, this ninja totally cut this guy's head off --- in his sleep!! That's, like, totally sweet and awesome!! FLIP OUT!!
NINJER INFLATION MAGIC --- ACTIVATE!!

In a few of the British kids books Iv'e got (australia got both US rlease and UK release of merchandise) Mike uses a bo staff like Don. And towards the end of the run we got UK packaging with our figures and all Mikes had nunchukus like the US figures. Not sure if the older waves of Mikes had them or not, you'd have to ask someone from the UK.
