Mikey VS. Donnie--In The Movies

Is it just me, or was Donatello funnier than Michaelangelo in the movies? Yes, Mikey had more funny moments in TMNT 2 but, Donnie's face alone in that film was funny as hell!

Excactly right. I mean, Don had some funny things... But it wasn't really IN his character to be that much of a comic relief. I, personally, didn't much like the "Three Stooges" routine. I mean, lol, I like the Three Stooges, but not Donnie laughing like them and such. It was funny for a bit, but then it got kinda old. I mean, it's just not in Don's personality to be that much of the comic relief. I would have rather had them have him act more in character than be a secondary comic relief character.

As did I. I actually preferred it over the face from the first movie. :) I thought it was adorable. Much more fitting for Don.

I too prefered the Donatello face in the second movie, much more loveable. True it really isn't in Don's nature to be such a yuk yuk joker, I think that they could have still made him funny letting him just be himself.

I suppose they made him that way to 'fit' in with the rest and not make him too brainy and aloof.

I think Don's sense of humor in the movies was much more to my taste than Mikey's, but I agree, he wasn't acting like his comic self in them at all. Not that I disliked his movie version or anything...I thought he was adorable with his egghead quips. (Corey Feldman!) As I said before, Leo wasn't much like his comic self, either...he acted way too goofy, in my opinion. Again, not that I mind that take on him...it's kind of neat to see different takes on the characters at times. :twink:

Well, all I'm saying is, Donnie had funnier jokes. His lines in the movies should have been delivered by Mikey. Although in TMNT 2 he was Mikey's straight man.

They were all pretty goofy in the movies... but at least they were less-so than in the original series ;p It would've been neat to seen more of Donny *as* Donny instead of somewhat of a Mikey clone. I love all the jokes, but still..character variety is even better ^_^

as for who's funnier, it just depends on what your comedy preference is, if it's slapstick, then it'll be mike, if it's sharp, witty comments, it'll be don. i personally loved don's humor in tmnt 1 and it carried over to the new toon well. they're both funny, just in their own way their approaches to humor are quite different

Ewww no I hate slapstick... Mikey's a bit more refined than that ;p Not that his comments have a LOT of substance, but it's not 'step in a pail, oh no I'm stuck now I'm going to clump around and walk into everything' humor either.
I like that he makes a lot of references to things... the wax on wax off thing, the impressions, clint eastwood, etc. He also has a decent balance between the one liners that alone and the one liners that are in reaction to stuff that's going on (ie he says funny things with or without a trigger).

I agree with you Donatello. Still, I think that they made Donatello abit too comical in the movies, but like you said he has always had a good sense of humour.
I love the part in part 2, in the mall, Donny is repeatedly hitting one of the hoodlums with a Nerf bat, than he drops the bat and there's a moment of pause. Then Donny goes "Rarr" and totally spooks the hoodlum while he's walking towards him with his arms stretched forward! That's SO funny! :lol:

Ryo, i agree after the first movie he did a little too silly. the first movie had it down pat, sly wit, with a little bit of goofiness, where as mikey was silly, as he is supposed to be. in the first movie & the new toon, he is funny, but far from being a "mikey Clone" as said above.


as for the puppet, in #2 the general look was better i thopught for don, but eyes were a little too big.

even his straight lines in the first mkovie are sometimes funny like: "uh, ..guys structurally speaking i dun't know if this is the best time for your uh, buddies to drop in"

and the bond between mike and don in that movie was great, that whole apartment scene had great action but was really funny too.


the new toon has it pretty good too, don's got that sharp wit, like when the foot tech was holding casey over the drain and he said to drop the weapons, casey goes "don't do it guys, i'm not worth it" and don goes "y'know he's got a point" (the only thing wrong w/ that scene is when leo says "don your starting to sound like mikey" when really, i tihnk it's a dead-on Don line, it's a little mean for mike to say it)

I did notice in the second movie that Donatello suddenly had a thing for putting hundreds and thousands candy sprinkles on very thing. At least I think that's what they were. In the scene with them arguing over which channel to watch Donny can be seen in the back ground carefully sprinkling each piece of popcorn. Weird.

Donatello is SO clever with his wit! I like it when in the new series, The guys are staying at April's place (this is the episode that I believe is called "Shredder strikes back"), And Donatello and Raphael are watching football, and Raph says, "Bears, Dolfins..., you'd think they'd have something a little more reptilien..." And Donny says "The turtles? Unfortunatly society has labeled the lowly turtle with the stereo-type of being velocity-challenged." And Raph says "Say what?". TOO funny! :lol:

Hmm, yeah in 3 Donny might've been funnier. But... that thing with the shorts! And why was it that when the honor guard came through, the guy for Mikey had the shorts but not the 'shell diaper'? Mikey has a shell like the rest of the guys so the honor guard should have had BOTH the shorts and the shell instead of just the shorts. (well actually none of them should have had the shell diaper cause the turtles obviously didn't leave their shells behind....however...it's classified a kids movie! ;p )

I totally agree. Don is great in the new series. I also liked that part in 2 when he talked about the ooze.

Hehe, it always made me laugh... when Don put all the salt on the popcorn... Because that's just how I used to eat it when I was younger!! Put salt on each individual piece. Heh. :)

I just thought it was odd that in the first flick they made Don Casey's buddy. I know Raph was all beat up at the time, but would Don really hang out with someone like Casey out of his own free will? And would Casey really find an egghead like Don all that interesting?

With the exception of Raph, they made all the characters sillier. I guess so they'd resemble their cartoon selves more (especially in the second one). Don't constant use of pool que chalk on his bo staff seemed kind of unlike him. Don isn't really known for his prop comedy.

Well, I didn't 'mind' the pool que thing that much. It was a little quirk... much like in the secod movie, I thought Don's adjusting of his belt was kinda cute. ;) :)

I liked the flaming marshmallow. It gave the scene some flare, if you'll pardon the pun.

But when you think about the Don/Casey relationship, it makes sense. Don is the gadget guy, and Casey has some mechanic abilities. It seems fitting that the two would connect if just for that one scene. As you should remember, later in the movie, Casey verbally abused Don about claustrophobia. So I guess you could say their friendship was not as solidified as Casey and Raph's.

I also liked the evens-odds game Don and Mike played near the end against Shredder.

well Raph Donny and Mikey all share some similiarites. cause Raph always wants to fight smae wit Casey, Donny likes Mechanics Same wit Casey and Mikey likes to goof, just like Casey. And this cna be proven by the current posts and by watching the 1-3rd ninja turtle movies and by watching some of the new ninja turtle epasodes.

Yeah the marshmallow thing was cool, but it did seem more of a Mike thing to do. They could've easily given it to Mikey too..it wasn't like he was doing something else. Though maybe it was showing Mikey taking things seriously--which he does do when it comes to Splinter....eventually (when Splinter talks, he often is in the backround really paying attention, once you've got his attention! ;p ). Maybe it was Don because he's the more logical, he's the one that said 'we all THINK he's alive' so maybe he was expecting it not to work.

No i disagree cause mikey liked to play around and so did donny, so Mikey with the yoyo is a good part. and same with wat donny did.
