After my wonderful expedition into South Portland (your sarcasm sense should be tingling by now) I was able to pick up Battle Bike Leonardo at my local TRU for $14.99. The packaging is a nice open window so you can see the figure and the bike along with the weapon rack in the back. The packaging still suffers from the strange yellow honey comb design but its not as noticeable on this one because the bottom of it is mostly blue. One interesting note is that the picture on the front has been reverse...
The figure is a repaint of the extreme sports Leo but it actually looks good. Really good. Instead of the hideous orange and blue outfit he was wearing before, Leo is not wearing a white top with a blue fire ball on his left. The fire ball looks JUST like the symbol from the game Magic the Gathering. His helmet is now black and silver instead of blue and silver. His arms are the same and still lack a proper paint job. One the upper part of Leo's right arm, there is a small ... thing that is painted on the Extreme Sports version and not on this one. His shorts are not all black instead of orange and black and his shoes are gray with black soles and laces. This time however, the belts are made out of brown plastic and not some other color painted brown. This Leo does not come with the goggles the other came with, but it doesn't take away from the figure.
The bike is a rehash of the Shell Cycle but with a few minor changes. Colorwise, the bike matches Leo's outfit. Everything is either Leo's skin shade of green, blue, silver or black. The sword sheaths in the front are still brown and there are some red highlights where the motor is. There is still the weird little yin yang on the back wheel that really takes away from the whole look in my opinion. There is one difference in the bike, the front portion has now been outfitted with a new wind sheild that is sleeker looking and has space to hold two of Leo's swords. The windshield is also tinted blue.
Now for acessories, and this is where the figure really shines. Leo comes with his two tradional swords. And a lot more. Just like the old school version of the turtles, Leo comes with an extensive weapon rack. This rack can actually stand up on its own better than the older ones and has real places to store weapons. The weapon list is:
The giant blade that Shredder and the Foot Techs come with
Elite Four's Trident
Both of Fighting Gear Raph's sais but the one that had the four points that made a cross is now only two prongs.
Two turtle throwing stars
Two foot throwing stars
Both of Fighting Gear Mikey's nunchakus
Both of Fighting Gear Leo's swords
Don's fighting gear bo
The double bladed weapon of the Elite
Don's regular bo
The Elite Spear
With Leo all the weapons came in silver but they need to be twisted off like the good old days and lack any painting. The other set I saw had the weapons in gold. I just hope they can avoid giving us neon weapons.
For $15, I would call this a pretty good deal. A figure and a bike are worth it but its the additional weapons that do it for me. Similar to what the Sewer Playset did, this allows our foot soldiers to have new weapons without stealing them from the turtles. If you missed out on the Extreme Sports or the Shell Cycle, I would recommend this. I play on buying the other 3 eventually.
I'll try to post pictures later tonight.
