remember the tmnt original costumes???

raph was in an all-black spandex bodysuit, leo had a metallic samurai-style face helmet and elbow and shoulder guards and cross belt straps, don had a 'rising sun' face mask and a sleavless orangish tunic thing, and mike had a full-on skull-cap/face mask thing covering everything but his mouth and cloth wrappings about his forearms and shins.....

what are your thoughts about those?? and what about the proposed costumes for the fouth movie with the new mutations??

do you guys prefer either of those 'looks' to the classic one?? i am only asking because in the classic look, all the turtles are identical.....

They had those costumes in the Archie wrestling series, didn't they? While the alternative costumes were cool, I think I prefer the classic ones. I don't really care what they wear.

Heck, if it were up to me, they wouldn't wear anything, but that's just me.

yes, eastman and laird had them wear them in the 'wrestling issues' of the archie comics, but those costumes were also the original character designs for them. only later did they decide to give them all the classic look.

what about the costumes in the proposed fourth movie?? i think they look cool, especially mike's...

although the classic look is cool, in certain ways i prefer these two alternative systems because it gives each turtle a distinctive 'look'. although in the mirage comics right now, the turtles all have these tatoos on their chest to tell them apart... and apparently they will all become superheros with distinctive costumes and powers..... so who knows???

personally, i would like to see the turtles in some black dogi ninja training clothes. thatd be cool....

yes, but doesnt the fact that the two 'alternative' schemes have them all in different costumes pique your interest?? i mean, you can actually tell them apart!!

on that note, i think it would have been interesting if the tmnt were given different facial and anatomical appearances.... like if don's heard were a little taller and slender (like jim lee dree) or if raph's head were shorter and wider..... you know, to make them not all look like clones of each other.....

I prefer the classic look, no costumes whatsoever

really? how come??

i think the different looks give each character more depth and realism. you know, i wouldnt want to wear a 'uniform' if i were them!!

i still think givin the turtles different anatomies is a good idea. i mean, raph is high on strength and endurance so he should probably be bit more bulkier than the others. mike is very agile and graceful, so he should have a bit more of a gymnast-type physique. donny isnt as atheltic as the others, so i think it would be realistic if wasnt quite as muscular and whatnot. you know, those subtle things that could be included to tell them apart.

I remember a while back that some video game had given Michaelangelo a yellow mask. Does anyone else remember this?

I know it happened because I became intrigued with the idea of Michaelangelo sporting a yellow bandana instead of an orange one. There was a period where I colored his bandana and elbow pads and knee pads yellow in my Ninja Turtles coloring books.

i dunno.... i just find the uniformity of the characters unsettling and unrealistic......

I think what they were should be the same but they could make their bodies look differnt.

The best part about the original old eye masks is that your able to tell them apart by their personality. Thats what makes the comic so cool.
I also like the color scheme though too. Cause all their colors are well suited to the characters they play.

My opinion.

I just think it would make them really cheap looking if they had huge bulky costumes on or whatever.... Just keep them the way they are! THEY ROCK!!!

yes, they should DEFINITELY have different physiques and skull shapes. much more realistic that way.

as for the different costumes, i think they should diversify a bit. i sincerely doubt any one of the tmnt (with the possible exception of Leonardo) would want a single 'uniform'.

I can see how that would be neat to see from a fan's point of view, but speaking from an artist's... that would be damn near hell to do. I've always loved the new looks where they did them, but I can see why they keep them simple. It's eaiser to draw action scenes in comics, and animate in general. And if they all looked different, in costume and body shape, I think it would be even more confusing for people to tell them apart. Not to mention the artists needing to keep reference sheets handy whenever they draw.

Just my opinion.

so lemme get this straight.....

it would be EVEN harder for the audience to tell the turtles apart..... because now they look different????? uhh... if you say so. :-?

as for the artists, its your responsibility to be familiar with your characters. an x-men pencilist is perfectly familiar with all the hair desgins, costumes, and etc etc of the x-men, so a turtle artist should be like wise.... that is, if these changes were ever implemented....

*smirks* Look at all the mistakes in the cartoon because the animators couldn't tell them apart. I think it's easier to remember that the only difference is bandanna color. To me, more differences means more they could screw up, but that's my Raph-like cynism talking. Besides, everyone draws them differently anyway, so I don't really give a damn what their official costume is.

So, you're telling my that no comic book artist EVER took license when drawing characters. That they look EXACTLY the same from book to book, even panel to panel? :|

Do either of you think think the Turtles should have different "dress codes" for this new cartoon? Personally, I wouldn't like the Turtles with a million different accessories hanging from their bodies.

Leonardo has a steel-chest protector; Raphael has a joke book strapped to his behind; there's an Erlenmeyer Flask growing out of Donatello's head; and Michaelangelo's shell is orange (like pizza cheese) and spotted with red pepperonis.

Please. Just keep them simple. The fact that their bandanas and whatnot are different colors is good enough for me.

Don't confuse the audience any more than you have to.

no, thats not what im saying..... and iv been primarily talking about the mirage tmnt here... thats where my 'expertise' is in.

look at it this way, Mike in the rpg got a 24 in Physical Prowess. That means he is MUCH better than his other brothers (Leo, the second highest, only got a 20) in terms of agility, balance, flexibility, deftness, grace, reflexes, quickness, precision, accuracy, dexterity, and over-all 'skill' with his body (thats why they call it physical prowess). Thus, it is only logical that Mike have a slighly more 'gymnastic-like' physique than his brothers.

likewise, Raphael got a 20 in both Physical Strength and Physical Endurance. This is his ability to lift and carry heavy objects, and to withstand physical abuse. Thus, it is only logical that Raph have a slightly stockier and more muscular build than the others, am i right?

Donatello is not as athletic or physically skilled as any of his brothers in any category, so he should not be quite as developed as them in terms of muscularity or 'gymnast physique'. know what im saying?

i just think these minor changes should be taken into account (in the comics at least)....

Okay, you've sold me. Now, just draw up a 30 or so page comic book with the specifications you think should be used and send it off to Mirage to convince them.

well, first off, its ultimately up to Peter Laird not Mirage.

and secondly, i have drawn the turtles in quite some time..... i dunno if i still can.....

Yes, I can see where you're going with this. I could see something like that being done in the comics.

But I think it would only work there, and perhaps the movies. All the Turtles had different looks in the movies.

yeah, i liked how they all looked different in the movies (although they got kinda stupid looking in tmnt 3)....... but it was talking about different physiques and not just different faces.

I think in the first movie, they definitely looked different. Raphael was a little stockier, and Michaelangelo was the short one of the group.

I didn't notice it so much in the second movie except for their faces.

And in the third movie, again, it was just their faces pretty much. Although, however, Michaelangelo looked a little shorter than the rest in that movie, too.
