i am hoping to get a bunch of ninja turtle comics as soon as possible and i was wnodering witch comcis youthink where really good. And what do you think about the archie comics.
I liked the Archie series. But I, as most people will say, liked the Mirage series better. I also liked the Image series but alot of folks here bash it almost as bad as TNM. I intend to complete my Archie collection as well as the rest of the book series.

I don't remember the plots very well, but the art always bugged me, way too kiddy.

I am hoping to get some archie comics. And whast the matter wit the art?
Nothing wrong with the art. It was as diversed as the original Mirage series. I especially loved the art in the last issues. Very good detail. If it was kiddy then it had to be. It was based on the old toon which was made to target kids. Nothing wrong with the art at all.

I guess it's whether you like all 'canon' characters or like meeting a bunch of other different people at once. Sometimes it was a brain-rush to try and remember everybody (Al-Falqa, anyone?). Some of them were pretty cool though. I did like Ninjara. Don't know if Raph fan-girls would, though.
The art was okay. I had problems with the colors. Kept making people look weird. Some of the plots were pretty cool, too. Sometimes they were even shockingly dark and angst (Year of the Turtle, for example).
I guess you'd be wisest looking for synposis of the comics online, as usual. I'm watching for #36. :D

#36--Steel Breeze. (http://www.ninjaturtles.com/comics/archie/36/36.htm) It's something to do with mystical stones, and the Shredder has possession of the dark one. I just think it's funny that they have a character called Al-Falqa. It's a little bit. . . coincedental, even.
Plus, when you have a character by the name of Verminator-X, you've gotta take a look! Giant psycho space kitty just doesn't have the same ring, you know?

When it came to the Archies series for me, originally, I hated them because I had felt lied to. After the first movie came out I was trying to find out the truth about Splinter's origins and somehow found out the Turtles were a comic series before movies and cartoons. I went to a local comic book store where I was hooked up with the Archies. Months later, on another trip to the store, a new guy I talked to was much more knowledgeable and he hooked me up with the first 4 Mirage. I was thrilled with my new discovery and never wanted to look at another Archie again. Thirteen years have passed since that happened and I am now ready to give the Archies a chance (I don't hold grudges, do I? hee hee) Anyhoo, I have heard the Archies were really good, but this was from people who love the original cartoon more that the old school goodness of the Mirage comics. mmm...goodness! But, I digress. The Turtles have always been growing and changing and the Archies were as much a part of their development as the Image series, cartoons, and movies. I am learning that to love the Turtles is to love all they incompass, except, maybe, Venus. Sorry, but I just feel that idea was sick and wrong. I kinda missed out on TNM bandwagon and that is something from which I can never recover from. I get the feeling they were best seen fresh. :tlove:

Well, it's certainly different, from both the original cartoon and the original comic books. Like with the original books, it takes its time to form into a cohesive whole, but when it does, it rocks. And I have to say, it just might be my favorite of all the turtleverses.
Things to know about the series: Don't go in expecting a paper version of the cartoon. Sure, it's based on the cartoon, but that's just window dressing. Aside from the basic origins of the main cartoon players (the Turtles, Splinter, the Shredder, Krang, and April) the first few issues based on the toon, and one or two characters, everything is all original.
What's more their original characters are reinterpretations are pretty cool, IMO. They get serious props for creating my favorite version of April and the turtles (the future ones) ever.
The series has an enviromentalist undertone throught most of it, so if that kind of preachiness bothers you, stay out.
The continuity can get quite involved, with lots of stories building up on previous ones, so expect some confusion if you don't read it in chronological order.
Then again, there's always a sort of "Previously on..." on multiparters.
Speaking of, I had to say that that's one of my favorite things about the series: the Gargoyles-like unfolding mythology of it all. Everything felt connected, and in a natural way. In fact, in a bit of full-circleness. The last (chronologically) turtle story can be linked to the first one (The Incredible Shrinking turtles).
It's on par with the new cartoon on the darkness/non-kiddiness scale, and even surpasses it. Don't expect this to be sanitized for the kiddies (except for a few "goshes" where there should be "gods" and "spits" where there should be "s***s", but that's all.
The art, especially when by Chris Allan, is fantastic, if a bit cartoony for some. The colors, though, could stand to be a lot better.
So yeah, very good, at times. Me likey.

I loved the Archie series and my favourite part of it )apart from Ninjara of course) was the art style. I love to draw Archie style fan art as I find it easier then most other styles.
Unfortunately here in the UK I think we got a different version (as always) A while a go I did manage to get hold of a load os TMNT Archie comics from the states on ebay. I have a long way to get before I complete the set.

well there not bad, but there was only a few issues that i really liked, but if your looking for TMNT comics, go for the orginal mirage comics, those are really good.
but if you were really into the old show than get the archie comics.

The Archie series was so perfectly well written! The vast characterisation was astounding, and I was so excited to read it when I started collecting it back in 2000!
