This will not only serve as good discussion, but also a voting poll for one of my TMNT comics where I'll show the top 5 fave TMNT and top 5 least fave TMNT characters. I mean anything, the old and new cartoon, the Mirage comics, the movies, whatever. And it doesn't have to be the turtles themselves. Could be anybody.

My fave is Michealangelo, he's basically what TMNT stood for in the old show (he's the one with the most surfer lingo, the biggest pizza addiction and the 'Cowabunga!' that the tmnt were most known for), and he's funny in the movies as well, and it's nice to see him finally kick ass in the new show.

Least fave is Lord Dregg. Just boring and lame, and he looked like one of those 'lame one-shot villian' characters, but instead he was THE villian and replaced Shredder.

Cool.

My absolute favorite is Casey Jones. In the comics and the new toon he's the vigilante with the smart-mouth. In the old toon he was a wild card with a very entertaining voice. And in the movies he was a stand-out character and a good comic relief, despite Mikey and Donnie.

I, too, hated Lord Dregg. Only because he seemed like filler for the old cartoon. I kept waiting for his death or final defeat but it just dragged on and on. I kept thinking, "Where's Shredder? Get him back!"

My Favorite is Slash. Hopefully if he does make a return in the New Cartoon, He isnt the dumbed down version...heh...

Least favorite...and let et me be the first here, but i know not last... ..to say Venus. For obvious reasons stated 97849674838 times.

My favorite is Casey Jones without a doubt. Ever since I was a toddler I loved Jason movies (yeah, I was watching them at that age) so I naturally clung to the guy in the hockey mask on one of my favorite cartoons. It was even better that he was a raging lunatic that was just as likely to kick the crap out of one of the turtles as he would a bad guy. I liked his movie version too, though he didn't get a chance to but any heads.

To me the new toon is the perfect balance. He went apesh*t on those Purple Dragons in his premiere episode. Pretty hardcore for a kid's show. But he also calmed down a bit and has a more reasonable side.

My least favorite, of the main characters (not counting any lame-o oneshot characters from the old toon or anything) is without a doubt Michelangelo. I've never liked any form of him except for maybe what I've seen in the Mirage comics. In the old toon he was hellbent on eating pizza 24/7. That's all he EVER talked about. It got old real fast. In the movies it was just one really awful joke after another. Aside from "I love being a turtle" he didn't have any good one-liners. And the new toon is his worst incarnation yet. A whiney little brat. He's totally obnoxious. What bugs me most is that he Won't. Stop. TALKING. It's like the writers can't go a single scene without giving Mike 60 lines of dialogue. And rarely is any of it funny.

I have other favorites and least favorites, but those are my number ones.

My favorite is (and always will be) Michaelangelo!! :D He's great in every version I've seen him in and always gets me laughing.

My least favorite is, well, I don't really have a least favorite actually

My all time favorite character from the original cartoon was Rocksteady! Not only was he funny, but he was also more loyal to Shredder and much more able to control his emotions than his pal Bebop!

My least favorite character was Howie, Irma's boyfriend for 2 of the whole episodes. The guy would sing offkey for minutes until April and/or one of the turtles would beg him to shut up. I was so glad he didn't become a regular. By the end of the ep, Raphael was just about ready to beat the crap outta this dork.

My favorite would have to be Slash (Insane Alien Criminal version) or maybe Dreadmon

Least fave: Ehhh I didn't much care for old toon Leatherhead

Old Toon:

Favourite: Shredder (duh)

My favorite character is Splinter, although Rocksteady is high up there too. I didn't like Mona Lisa (that salamander/lizard chick) or Venus from Next Mutation. Actually, I just wasn't particularly fond of Next Mutation ^^;

I have plenty of favourites from the old toon, Scumbug, Rat King and Slash being some of the few but my least favourites are definately those two blonde kids from the "great boldini" episode. Can't remember names.

that would be Zack the fifth turtle and some friend of his. I didn't like Zack either, so lemme add him to my 'least favorite' list.

There's not really any characters i don't like.

Can't them a single fav as there's so many i liked. My favourite turrtle in the cartoon was always Raphael. He's also my fav turtle in the movie. Another favourite from the movie is Tatsu and Shredder.

Leatherhead was one of my fav minor villains, i like his straight talking. I actually liked him better than Rat King. Krang and Shredder are my fav villains of all time. Splinter is another fav.

I wasn't too keen on Don Turtelli but i've grown to like him. I liked Baxter better as a fly than he was a human. He was more wimpy as a human.

Mr Ogg may be my least fav, along with the neutrinos.

Coola Yagami
07-30-2004, 07:47 AM
add another one for Mr. Ogg. He was so annoying.. thank God he was a one-shot villian....

Other faves of mine were classic Leatherhead and Slash. I mostly liked Archie Slash causehe was protrayed more as the hack-n-slash psycho the toy portrayed him as, but he was ok in his first cartoon episode appearance. i also liked April, but mostly due to her looks since sometimes she got annoying. At time it felt like she was somehow forced into the episode cause they just HAD to have her in nearly every single episode... I like how the new toon sometimes just involves the TMNT themselves and don't always have to have April and/or Casey in em. Another fave of mine was Mondo Gecko, I felt the Archie comic protrayed more as the crazy heavy metal skateboarder he was meant to be than the cartoon. I also liked Armaggon from the Archie comics as well as their take on April, kicking ass under Splinter's teachings. I also like Oyuki, always thought she was cute, and wished she also learned to fight like April did, but oh well. At least she became a regular. Ninjara was cool too.

I also didn't like the cartoon's versions on Wingnut and Metalhead...

Favoritre Character: Leatherhead in all and any forms! No ones cooler or better. Plus in the old toon his voice owned! And he fought Ratking and teamed up with him to! Wish he was in the old show more! He better be in the new show more :P
Most hated Character: Veren annoyed the hell out of me. He was a whinny little baby and he wou;d never shut up. Plus he looked like a reatrd

Other than the turtles, my favourites would have to be any one of the Mutanimals, I always loved those comics as a kid. I also liked Groundchuck and Dirtbag from the old show. As for least favourites, it'd have to be Venus, and then Walker from the third movie.

Old show fav: Raph... he was tough but funny in the best sarcastic way possible (:

Old show fav villian: KRANG! What's not to love about a disembodied brain? >_> Plus he was more serious than Shredder and had more of a developed character.

Old show least fav: One-shot villians...x_x bleh! Wasn't ever a fan of Bebop and Rocksteady either, they just did too many stupid things. Vernon was irritating and stupid...

Didn't like much of anything in Next Mutation.
Movies.....Raph and Mikey tie but I think Mikey is up there a bit. Fav villian is Shredder ;)
Least fav... the fat guy in III, not because of him, but because of all the jokes made ABOUT him...okay...so he's fat...big deal...get over it ^_~

New show fav: MIKEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Obviously >_> ) Everything he says and does cracks me up XD Though sometimes it seems like he gets made out to be TOO wimpy and TOO easily distracted just to make a joke when in other episodes we've seen him get serious when he needs to be.

New show least fav: GARBAGEMAN...-_-;;;

Usagi Yojimbo, though not particulary a TMNT character, but he appeared in both series, is another fave of mine. I haven't seen him in the new show yet, but I did like both of his apearances in the old show. He brought in some cool swordmoves that even Leonardo didn't show off.

I'm also a fan of classic Shredder, Bebop and Rocksteady. They all ha good jokes, plus the episodes where the Shredder would actually seriously fight against the TMNT and/or Splinter were always the best.

I'm still undecided on my opinion of the new Shredder. He seems bad-ass, but I'll have to wait until his appearance as an Ultrom.

Favourite: Without a doubt, Leatherhead. Won't go into detail on why.
Least Favourite: Krang's Brain. One of the main villians, I know, but the shrill voice and his ugly appearance just kind of seemed close to disgusting.

Doppleganger
08-09-2004, 09:16 PM
Old show fave: Leonardo. He was the serious leader, though not as much as the new toon.

Old show least fave: The mobster they were pretty stupid and pointless, plus April's boss and male co-worker (Vernon?).

New school faves: I can't pick one. The Triceratons but I'm leaning towards Zog and Traximus. Leatherhead too. But if I had to pick...Traximus.

New school least fave: Garbageman because he was disgusting  and maybe a little of new school Leo. I don't know but I think they've powered him up way too much, made him way too important, and way too skillful. Old school Leo seemed more balanced out and he actually had a sense of humor. This incarnation is like Cyclops from X-men. :dead: He's kind of stern and wooden.

Foxy Boy
08-09-2004, 09:24 PM
By the way, I haven't seen much of the new cartoon, since what I saw of it was not as good to me as the old. What do the new incarnations of all the villians look likem like Rock Steady and Bebop and Leatherhead and Super Krang?

Spitfire

Just wanted to have 3 "warned" members post in a row.

On topic, I never liked April in any form. She was constantly in the old show, every episode. It got irritating. In the new show she's pretty bland. I just don't find her character interesting in the least.

And the Channel 6 people go without saying. I never liked them, even when I was a kid.

Slash, the toy, not the cartoon version. I really want an update of him as a psycho criminal from an alternate reality, he could be Ralph's doppleganger and lead the teenage mutant ninja criminals :)

I really, really, really hate Krang wannabe Shredder Utrom thing  I miss Saki :dead:

Shred Head
08-13-2004, 03:24 AM
I'll leave out the core characters in my like part since its kida easy for me to put up those since there in or almost in every version of the Turtles and I would like to give credit to the lesser known characters. But really though Micky and Shredder are still my fav out of everything.

Fav: Armaggonthis guy was one of the coolest villains ever. I cant remember much of his backs tory now since its been years since I read the Future Shark Trilogy. But I remeber I loved to play as him in Tornament fighters and he is still one of the coolest looking Mutants ever sadly I dont think the guy ever got a toy.

Hounarable mentions:
Slash
Krang
The Mutanimals
Leatherhead (New show and Archie version)
Ninjara
Savanti Romero
Karai

Hated: Venus De Milo I couldn't stand her I feel the only Turtles that should be part of the group are the four brothers no one else. Adding a girl just ruined it for me and I thought it was one of the stupidest ideas ever. Not to metnion I felt like she was trying to takeing April's place in the Turtles family and that just made me hate her even more. Also I hated that stpud shinobi magic and they gave her a color one Turtle already had why make light blue? If they were going to have one wear the same color as antehr they should have just all have worn red.

Dishounarable mentions:
Lord Dregg: Really what was the point of getting rid of Krang if the nect thing you make is anther overlord from Dimsion X but isn't even half as interesting. Really whats the point of replaceing the main villains with the same thing but duller.

Oz or whatever that Mr. Mxziplic ripoff with the Peewee herman voice was called.

Vernon
Burne Thompson
The mob bosses like Pinky McFingers and Mad Dog
Irma
Dregg
Barney Stockman
Venus
Zack

Gremlin
08-13-2004, 07:03 AM
Hmm, I'll have to be the same character on both for me.

Slash

The Archie one was a real good written psycho that (on rare occasions) could be resonable. A perfect guy to throw in when you needed to burn a few pages on someone slicing bodies to pieces

The old toons two versions of the guy must something of the worst I've ever seen in a cartoon. first as the archie psycho, only with no violence and ten times stupider. then the psycho again, but still without violence and a bad attempt to make him intelligent

My all round most favorite character is Leonardo! He's just so damn awesome! :anime:

Other characters I really like are:

Shredder

the other three turtles

April

Casey

Splinter (though I wish they would go deeper into his character and make him more important and interesting in the series).

Tatsu (He is perhaps the coolest assistant Shredder has ever had)

Krang

Rocksteady & Bebop

Neutrinos

Karai

Usagi Yojimbo (though he isn't a TMNT character he's made plenty appearences with the TMNT through out the years)

Tokka & Rahzar

Characters I don't like are:

Lord Dregg

Mobsters from Dimention X

Super mutant versions of the turtles (I didn't see the point. They got physicaly stronger but more clumsy, and they just looked ugly and kinda stupid)

Garbage man

Justice Force (Ugh! Why the shell were they put into the new series!?! I didn't like them back then when I read the comic, and I still don't like them now!
I was hoping that the new series wouldn't have any corny super heroric men in tacky spandex. If I wanted to watch a bunch of goofs run around in tights, I would have watched "Super Friends" instead.
The Justice Force is just a silly concept that shouldn't be put in a serious animation like TMNT.

I've only seen the old show and I hated Dregg. I only saw a few Dregg episodes though. How could you possibly replace Shredder? At least kill him instead of just not having him in the cartoon anymore.

I haven't seen the new show but I've heard bad things about so I don't know if I wanna see it. I'm 27 and was in high school and middle school when the old show was on. Based on what I.ve heard I can't imagine anybody from my generation liking the new show. I guess thats kind of off topic. Sorry. Oh yeah I don't have any particular favorite. I tried to think of one.

Someone in this thread hates letherhead. You gotta be kidding me!

Hmmm.... well, I don't think you should be so quick to judge just because it's a new series. If you like the old Mirage Studios TMNT comics than you would definetly like the new series. It's very close to the Mirage TMNT.
Well, I'm 23 and I love the new series! This is coming from someone who grew up watching the old series! To be honest, both series are are great in their own ways. Give it a shot. :)

My favorite Turtle and favorite character has always been Michelangelo. He's my favorite because he has my two favorite colors (Orange and Green), my favorite weapon is the nunchaku and I loved his personality in all forms of the TMNT universe (Comics, Movies, Old and New Show).

My second favorite character is The Shredder. I loved his wacky form in the old show (James Avery's voice fit the old show Shredder like a glove!) But I like the comic/new show/movie Shredder more because he is depicted as the way he should be, the ruthless badass that he is. (I dig Dave McCharen's voice of the Shredder in the movies.)

I really don't have a least favorite character, but I do know that Leonardo is my least favorite of the Turtles. He tends to be annoying in the old show because of his constant references to Splinter and the fact that HE ALWAYS STATES THE OBVIOUS!!!! He's better in the movies and new show though, but he's still my least favorite turtle. (Hope I don't offend you Leo fans out there. I have a friend who loves Leo and my brother was a Leo fan as a kid.)

now that you mention it, i remember in the old show Leo always said ' Master Splinter said' or 'remember what master splinter said'.

one of my fave times was when leo said 'remember what master splinter said... one must sometimes side with evil to accomplish good.' and someone said 'y'know i don't remember splinter ever saying that', and leo answered' well... he would have... if he ever thought about it...'

Well, I'm little more than 2 years younger than you, and I LOVE the new show. And we have 30 somethings I believe that enjoy it also.
It all depends on what you like, I guess. I don't think its really an 'age' thing, though...

My favorite turtle is Leo. I do admit he was an annoying suckup in the old toon, but in the new toon he's awesome! He leads, but without whining about Splinter... and most of the time without a "follow me!" His brothers follow him because they know he's probably right.
The others are (by now) ranked all only a hair behind Leo because the writers do such a great job with them! Mikey has his reasons to make stupid jokes. Don is geeky yet cool. Raph is angry, but you can see that his family is really important to him. And Splinter... I'd like to see a bit more character development on him too - but he still rocks.

I can't stand April in any form. In the old show her entire plot purpose was to act stupid enough to get into trouble, so that the Turtles could alleviate their boredom by saving her. In the new show she started out OK (still a little wimpy) but then they did that stupid jungle girl episode, and now she's taking lessons from Splinter??! No. Nonononono. Stop trying to make her cooler than the Turtles! So my favorite (if there is one) version of April is the movie one. Haven't read enough of the comics (don't I wish - sigh) to give a judgement there.

Here my favorites.
-Well my favorite turtle is Raphael because he has my favorite colored bandana and its funny seeing him at his hotheaded form.
Leo is my 2nd favorite. Leadership is his job (well not really his job) but sometimes becomes a bother but don't care.
Leatherhead is another because I feel sorry for him. He been raise by the Utorms and he gets left behind, but at least he has friends (better to say family) there for him.
Triceratons is another (mostly Traximus and Mozar)
The Shredder also.
The Ultimate Ninja. Well, he may be an ultimate loser but there has to be some good in him. (Crazy uhm :ohwell: )
-My least favorites are Bishop because he freaks me out! Baxter Stockman and Karai (Leo has to leave her alone, get over it)
and character I hate is the Garbage Man. *yuck* :dead:

Fav character (OK besides the obvious love for the Turtles and Splinter...Bishop. He's a bit of a mystery and I really love those...oooh and Rat King from the comics...all that psychological torture...can't wait for him in the new series.

Least favorite...the regenta. I don't know why...i just don't like her...

I haven't seen the Garbageman episode yet, but I've reserved the DVD at the library that has it. I suppose I'll see what everyone was complaining about soon. Is it dumber than that stupid "Golden Puck" episode?

As for new toon/old toon banter... I love the new toon for its writing and seriousness. This is action/adventure. The old toon, while having nostalgic charm, takes a lighter view on things. So it's good for when you feel like action/comedy with cute little turtle characters. I've learned to love both, but for different reasons.

Old Show:

Love Shredder (of course!) and Krang. I like Don and Raphael best out of the turtles.

New Show:

I like Raph best. He's so badass. But I HATE what they did to Saki's character. They were so focused on making him a badass that...there was nothing else for him to be. After a point he became so badass it was disrespectful. Ugh. So flat, so 2-D, so disapointing. I liked him for a while, truly, but he was just too cool for his own good.

And making him into an Utrom was pointless and uninspired, not to mention random. Who thought that up? And how did so many people actually go along with it without stopping the genius that spawned such an idea? It's SHREDDER for crying out loud. They totally destroyed a cartoon character that has been around since 1987. Almost twenty years worth of history and they threw it out the window. "Who cares, it's the stupid crappy kiddie series. Bleh."

Bleh."Yeah, I really would rather they have kept Saki human. In fact, I think it's kind of retarded that they would do that. However, they managed to write pretty good stories that took into account how Shredder's origin would effect events. After all, by having him survive the first encounter with the Turtles it was technically inaccurate...they needed a series villain, so there you go. I just hope they have the sense to keep him out now that he's gone.

I'll admit that Michaelangelo has his quirks but he is still a pretty decent turtle. I have always been found of him and in the old series I kind of felt sorry for him too. No one would ever give him a break, and it seemed that he struggled alot more than the others just to keep up with them ninjitsu wise. He was always being made out to be this moron and actually really wasn't and I think that frustrated him, and I kind of picked up on that. I liked what a big sweetie he was especcially with his pets. still remember his bet bird Pete and what he went through to keep him, among other things.

In the new toon I don't think he is whole lot like his old self but Michaelangelo is the "pop culture". I don't know I didn't like his over hyper activity before but it has sort of grown on me. And actually i think he acts the way he does because I think he is annoyed about his positon in the ranks. I also like that he genually wants to help people, which I think is noble. I wish the writters would cut out the crap of portraying him as cowardly.

I have no idea what he is like in the comics but i hear that he is portrayed a little bit less obnoxious than how other TMNT universis have treated him, and I hear that he has some sort of artistic slant as well, which I think I like. All the other turtles seem to have some sort of character/personallty trade mark traits that make them stand out, so why not Michaelagelo.

Benito may I ask why you like the Mirage incarnation of Michaelangelo the best. I have heard other people say this as well and now I'm curious as to what it is about Michaelangelo in the Mirage comics that is different about him that people like. Because I thought that he was the same in all his incarnations.

Mikey was certainly more articulate and less obnoxious in the early Mirage comics, as well as the Archie series.

It's usually the cartoon and movie writers who like to dumb down his personality and turn him into the Pauly Shore type.

When you say that he is more articulate in the comics, do you mean that he actually has intelligent things to say instead of throughing out one liners all the time like he doesn in the new cartoon or goes on about pizza like he does in the classic toon.

And why the heck do the writters have to go about and make him look less that what he was orginally intended in the comics? :-?

Yes, in the Mirage series he wasn't just some "happy go lucky" fool, he was a serious fighter, but when together with his bro's Raph more so he would occassionaly joke.

The Mirage Incarnation has more depth than the archie and also I can relate to him more.
The archie's thought process was Pizza, Party, Surfin, Pizza, Party

but the Mirage was more realistic

yeah I hear that Michaelangelo is more artistic in the comics. I know that in the Image series that he was some kind of writter. Although I'm not sure if in Image is considered canon or not. I'm not sure if he was into that in the regular Mirage stream in the comics.

Although I have to say that I like the way Donatello is portrayed in the mirage comics. I would have to say that it is his best portrayal. Had I read the comics before seeing any oof the cartoon adaption I Donatello would probably be my fav turtle.

Least Favorite:

-Venus DeMilo: Blatant attempt to make the Turtles more like Power Rangers and be PC by adding a female turtle. I've said it before, if they wanted a strong female character, they could have had April in the show and then have explained that she was sick of being kidnapped and finally decided to get some training and learn to fight and defend herself.

Plus for all those fans of the yellow jumpsuit, they would have been able to see it in live action perhaps. :D j/k

Gonna have to agree with Mr. Mutant Man. My favorite character would have to be Raphael. He was always my fav as a kid, my parents used to say I was like him cause I had a temper. Now with an adult perspective, he's still my fav. He's just the most interesting Turtle to me. Plus, he's got the badass weapons. If there was one weapon that I could learn that the Turtles use, it would be the sais.

My least favorite would have to be either Venus de Milo (a common thing on this thread) or....this might get me crap, but Serling. The stereotypical british butler thing just annoys me. And he looks too cartoony for me, if that makes sense (big eyes on a small head on a big upper body).

you don't like April the one you described as being hot and sexy!? :o

SHREDDER-X
08-24-2008, 02:08 AM
Let me explain. I didn't like April's character portrayal in the OT and Archie comic because she was too damn cocky and nosey. She always had to have a hot news scoop. which got her in trouble, which led to the turtles having to come and rescue her when they could be chilling eating pizza. Archie's April annoyed me by the fact she was learning Ninjitsu ( Which really wasn't ninjitsu, cause ninjas, unlike samurais were not really warriors, but assasins who avoided open combat, but I digress) and was becoming very skilled too quickly, which took the turtles half their life to master.

Fair enough, but you have to at least give the Archie writers credit for trying to provide some logic to her progress, even if it was a little bizzare. In a 3-issue mini-series, April was revealed to be the descendant of May East, an evil ancient sorceress with psychic powers. Both May East and April were able to drink from a magic bottle that awakened their existant but latent powers and transform into giant robots (Yeah, I know ).

In the second issue, April shows up the Turtles with her uncanny progress in ninjitsu stealth. Even Splinter is surprised at her talent in the way of invisibility that far outreaches someone of her training. April suspects May East's power must be a factor in her ninjitsu mastery. May East resents April for forsaking her sorceress bloodline, and April resolves to use her power to help the Turtles.

When you factor in the possibility that Archie April has a supernatural and warrior bloodline, then it is feasible that she adapts quickly in the martial arts. Clearly, there is more to this version of April than meets the eye. If nothing else, it is a much better explanation for her progress than the recent CGI film. And don't even get me started on the "Kirby's magic crystal origin."

5-Casey Jones- He is awesome. The fact that he kicks the crap out of ninjas with sports equipment astounds me to this day.
4-Raph& Leo- I like them both equally, for equally different reasons.
3-The Rat King- So strange and mysterious. Plus anyone who can take on the turtles and Casey at once is on bad Muth F**ka.
2-Mike & Don- Same as Leo and Raph.
1- The SHredder. He is just so badass.

Favorite character is without question, Raphael, in all incarnations that I have seen.

As for second favorites and least favorites, depends on the version.

Old Toon:
2nd favorite, probably Leo
Least favorite, Vernon.

New Toon: Leo is second favorite again.
Least favorite: Baxter Stockman. He's like the turd that won't flush.

1990 movies: Mikey was my second favorite.
Least favorite: Chief Sterns, Vanilla Ice

2k7 movie. 2nd favorite was Donnie, and the little Jersey Devil is pretty close up, thought he was funny as hell.
Least favorite: Splinter. Why would you send only one brother out for training when all four should have gone? Even if it was in separate directions, they'd all come back together more independent, while appreciating their strengths as a team.

Glad to say, never watched TNM, so can't comment on it.

Sad to say, never followed with the comics that started it all. Maybe one day I will. But till then, can't comment on this as well.
