I'd never seen a rainbow so up close before. I'd never seen glowing golden mangos, either. But when I went out walking in the forest one day, that's exactly what I discovered.

Don't believe me? That's okay. Everyone has the same reaction when I begin my story. Rainbows? Glowing golden mangos? What's this guy talking about? But you will come to believe eventually.

I guess I'll start at the beginning . . .

It's another story, dude. Mangos are a big thing around here. No one (that I know of) has started a mango story before.

So . . . as I was saying . . .

I guess I'll start at the beginning . . .

Once upon a time there was a lovely young forum goer. She was an intelligent girl, who studied far and wide. She came back from a trip with a gift... Mango Lassie's, a delightful drink that has nothing to do with dogs rescuing boys from wells...

Anyway. I see that I'm going to have to get this ball rolling myself.

*Ahem*

I guess I'll start at the beginning . . .

The light shown down through the trees. They swayed with the singing wind, the leaves fluttering lazily.

I picked up a stone and tossed it. This forest was pretty boring. I was starting to wonder why I'd even come out here in the first place.

"Because you need to appreciate nature," my mother had told me. "You need to get out and interact with the world for once."

My mom. She's a big nature freak. She's all about getting in touch with yourself and appreciating the world and recognizing its beauty. I don't know how I got such a mushy mom. Why couldn't she be like all other mom's, who don't care whether or not I stay in my room all day and play video games?

Anyway. That's not real important to the story.

I came to a small river. It was steadily trickling down the hill, little waves washing over the rocks. I looked into the mirror-like water, staring at my reflection. I looked bored. Big surprise.

But then I noticed something else. Over my left shoulder, I noticed something. It was very colorful, yet hazy and covered in fog. I turned around and looked skyward.

It was a rainbow. A big colorful rainbow, but parts of it were covered in mist. And it was remarkably close. It seemed like it was only a few hundred feet from where I was standing.

All of a sudden, this forest didn't seem so boring now. I decided to check out where this rainbow stretched, see if I could find the end. I'd always heard those tales about finding a pot of gold at the end.

That would be cool. I could buy some awesome video games with a pot of gold at my disposal.

So I left my little river and set out on my adventure. Little did I know that it would be a long time until I would see that river again.

And little did I know that by simply trying to find the end of this rainbow, I would find myself getting into trouble, more trouble than I could have ever imagined.

Everyone and anyone can take turns leading the story. How I envisioned it was that you guys just pick up where the last person left off. It can go for as long as you want.

I do want to end it with the main character finally coming to the end of the rainbow and finding the steel pan of golden glowing mangos. How he gets there, and the things he does along the way, will be decided by you guys.

So have fun with it!

The forest seemed to stretch on forever. I sat down in a large root and glanced up at the rainbow, visible through the canopy. It didn't seem all that much closer and I was beginning to think that it was really stupid following a rainbow. I checked my watch. Two minutes, I'd been walking two whole minutes, and I didn't seem any closer.

"Excuse me."

I looked around to see who had said that. There was no one. That's when I felt the tug on my jeans. I looked down to see a small elf-like creature dressed in gold and blue. I just stared at it for awhile, and it stared back.

"Excuse me," it said again. "But you're blocking my doorway."

"Oh, sorry," I said, jumping up and away from the root. There was indeed a hole there, and I knelt down to try and look inside after the elf, but got a tiny door slammed in my face for my troubles.

"They won't be of much help," I heard a soft voice say behind me. "They enjoy tricking and confusing those who come through here."

I stood and turned around slowly. My jaw dropped at the the of what had spoken.

A little fellow that looked like something between a Kelber elf and Link from Zelda stood before me!

"What.. who, uh... I'll let you be." I stammered.

"Nah... that's okay. As long as you are not here to harm our precious crops." he winked his eyes as he smiled like he knew much more than I did.

The little elf continued to smile, a hint of amusement dancing in his eyes. "So tell me, how did you find this place?"

I looked at him, confused as ever. "I was just going on a walk..."

"I see," the elf responded. "But since you're here, why don't I show you our crops? We don't get too many visitors around these parts."

I shrugged non-chalantly. "Okay. I have no idea what's going on, so I guess you're my tour guide."

"Very well," said the little elf. "Follow me."

He led me in the direction of the rainbow. He didn't say that much to me; the only sounds in the forest now was the animal life around here, and the pad-pad-pad of his feet over the forest floor.

Suddenly, the elf stopped in front of a row of bushes. He turned around and grinned at me. There was a twinkle in his eye, and it led me to believe again that he knew something I didn't.

"Where are we?" I asked him. I wasn't seeing the connection between the bushes and this little elf.

"Home," he answered. And then he pulled out a little black wand from the belt around his waist. He held it up and shouted, "Greesho Meengoi!" At once, the bushes parted as if being separated by two giant hands.

I felt my eyes growing wide as a cave was revealed to be resting behind them. It was dark inside, and it didn't seem to be very inviting.

"Your home is in a cave?" I asked.

"Everything will make sense in due time," said the elf, his eyes still twinkling.

I looked up at that beautiful rainbow and then noticed something for the first time. The arch of the rainbow ended in the cliff to which this cave was connected. I wondered if the rainbow continued through the rock and ended somewhere inside the cave.

"The crops are waiting, Peter, as is Atrus. We don't want to keep them waiting, do we?" The elf extended his hand and motioned for me to step into the cave first.

"Wait a minute!" I exclaimed. "How did you know my name? And who is Atrus?"

The grin on the elf's face grew even wider then before. "The river told me." He looked deep into my eyes now. "Everything is alive in this forest."

I nodded and looked around me. I noticed the rocks and leaves littering the ground. I glanced at the flowers by the river. One of the petals on a yellow one nodded at me!

And then, without another word, I walked into the cave, the little elf following close behind.
