My girlfriend just recently started picking up TMNT Volume 4 with issue #14. I have issues one and two, and we both regularly read Tales of the TMNT. However, we are hopelessly lost.
Can any of you help fill us in on what's going on in this series?

It also has a bunch of crappy synopsises for Volume Three, Volume Four does'nt tell you anything given it's main purpose is to promote the reader to buy the comics
Anyway, BrianReilly, Tales of the TMNT is set years BEFORE Volume Four, in the current comics, Splinter is dead, Raph has transformed into a savage creature, and the Turtles are scattered.

Since I'm bored I'll summarise the goings-on since I picked it up (#11 I think)
Anyone feel free to correct me where I'm wrong
- Splinter died
- Mikey got a job as a sort of 'greeter' who shows alien-folk around Earth. He has recently embarked on what I feel to be the most boring storyline ever to appear in a tmnt mirage comic (I bet you Laird will read this, 'hello rant in next issue')...but I guess it's not too bad and adds some calm pace to the other goings on...such as:
- Don helping the Utroms investigate some mysterious happenings in South America (if I remember correctly) involving a crashed Utrom ship, vicious, gollum-like talking dinosaurs (NOT triceratons) and mutant tree creatures that use what appears to be utrom technology, speak 'high Utrom' and are made partly of Utrom skin tissue. They have currently shrunken Don, some Utroms and it seems many other things and put them in a big hamster cage sort of construction.
- Raph went out drinking, got a bit drunk and was attacked by what it would seem are vampires on his way home. This then caused him to mutate into a big monster thing and break out of the institute where Fugitoid was keeping him. On his escape he decapitated Fugitoid and blasted Raptarr (some flying dude that saved Mikey's life earlier in the volume) before facing off with Leatherhead in the sewers
- Leo has gone to help Karai and the foot against some weird androgenous (well their gender can't be identified) ninjas, it seems from an alternative reality, that are killing off all foot with only the NYC branch remaining. Leo got into a fight with one, barely survived at one point but seemed to have the upperhand before it was subdued
- April has been exploring her past and found something interesting. She's seen film footage of her father drawing pictures of her a few years before she was even born. Later, Renet (time traveller woman from old issues) took April on a journey we didn't see that left April shocked and distraught (and with her shaven hair grown back :p ).
I'm really enjoying Raph and Leo's storylines, April's is interesting, Don's is good and I'm kinda of indifferent to Mikey's. But I believe they all flow a long really well, if not a little slow at times. But I'm just glad to see a new murage tmnt comic every 2 months (or so) now
Feel free to ask questions or anything

You forgot to mention that the Ultroms announced their existance on Earth and want the planet to join them in some kind of Universal harmony thing. That's why mikey became sort of a tour guide for visiting aliens and Raph was out drinkin one night (you know, now that aliens are around, mutant turtles aren't so weird, so Raph could wander around more freely). Splinter died of a heart attack.
