View Full Version : sculpting on old toon toys
They did not sculpt Traag, gengis frog, slash, fugitiod (he was in the comics and not on the old show), Rat King, napleon bonafrog, and Baxter Stockman like they did on the old cartoon show. What I am saying is that playmates did not make them look exactly like what they looked like on the cartoon. How did that happen?
Bebop was on the borderline of not looking like his cartoon counterpart.

MOST of the old figures were inaccurate to their show versions. The turtles, Splinter, Shredder, April, Foot Soldier, Rocksteady and Bebop, Usagi Yojimbo... practically all of the figures were inaccurate, some more than others.

the turtles, splinter, shredder, foot soilder, rocksteady and usagi seemed fairly accurate. The figures I mentioned were totally inaccurate.

Practicly none of the figures were cartoon acsurate not even the toon turtles were that good. I wish playmates did make them look just like they did in the cartoon. Theres a guy on internet that makes customs and he made cartoon accurate turtles and there really good.

Nah.
The Turtles' heads were way more like they were in the Mirage comics than on the toon.
Splinter was WAY more rat-like and WAY less human-like than on the cartoon, and his head looked nothing like it should have.
April was mostly accurate, with the only gripe being that her hair had way less body on the figure.
Good goongala, man, don't get me started on Shredder! They made him scrawny, messed up his helmet, left him shirtless, AND colored his various metalic "armor" blue and purple!
Foot Soldier... well, the sculpt was fine but the colors were way off, again with the blue and purple!
Rocksteady's figure was way more muscled than his beer-gutted cartoon counterpart, and his head was hideous. Plus they colored his shirt wrong.
I mentioned Usagi simply because he's always the first to come to my mind when it comes to inaccuracy in the old toy line. The old cartoon was fairly accurate to the comics with Usagi's appearance (even more so than the new show!), but the toy left A LOT to be desired. The head was hideous, looking nothing like Usagi! The armor... I don't know WHAT they were thinking with THAT. Perhaps they were trying to depict him in this armor (http://www.usagiyojimbo.com/other/images/uycovers/uybook2.jpg), but if that's what they were trying to do, they failed. Antarctic Press did a much better job on their Usagi figure. (http://www.antarctic-press.com/html/store/toys/images/usagi_yojimbo_02.jpg)

Zobovor's kit bashes are pretty good, though I can't say I'm as pleased with his Usagi or Fugitoid as with the others. He hasn't done the turtles themselves yet, as weapon x's post suggested (though he has done Slash (http://members.fortunecity.com/zobovor/slash_kitbash.html) and Metalhead (http://members.fortunecity.com/zobovor/metalhead_custom.html)).

I meant he 's done figures from the turtles line. But I E-mailed him and he said he was going to make the turtles, splinter, and a first movie accurate sred.

I usually preferred the toy version because the sculpt was always more detailed, something the new line lacks...The only exception is with Casey and Usagi, I always hated Casey's single broken bat...Pissed me the hell off! And Usagi looked way to different and way to angry, still he was my favorite!
Oh and shredder's paint and sculpt was kinda cheep...I always preferred the look of Super Shredder or the Wacky Action one I never had.

None of the pictures on that site will work for me :( I just get a domain hosting picture instead, for Fortune City.
