Anyone else going through this game right now? It's pretty awesome. The Light and Dark worlds totally have a Zelda: Link to the Past Feel to them, as do some of the puzzles. (Atleast to me)

I cleaned out the first one (Ridley was a pain in the ass) some months ago. The DS kinda ran my cash out, so I'll have to Christmas this one, but Nintendo sent me the demo disc, and daaaamn. This one looks to kill all. Dark Samus is intimidating. She's like the ultimate super boss. This should be a blast.
How are the cenima scenes compared to the first one?

ALL The Graphics are Enhanced. The game just over all looks better.

I've read some reviews where the dark world was criticized as "awkward". What about that?

I haven't experienced any akwardness in the Dark World yet. Basically, the two worlds are the same, but if you go to one area in the dark world some exits/doors/paths won't be there, but there are usually ways to get to the same room from other paths. (Which is very metroid like)

I like the idea of the dark world being a forbidding hell hole in contrast to the organic light world.
The fact that the cube can hold both worlds in the RAM & both look great is quite a deat.
I wanna play this game so bad. Apparently there's a speed run for this game already. I really want to watch it, but then I'll spoil the whole game. I can't wait for Christmas...

How long is the speed run of MP2? I remember the MP world record one being about 90 minutes. :o
I saw a Metroid Prime 100% item collection speed run of 1 hour and 27 minutes. It was simply amazing.
This one is a Hard 22% item collection speed run of 3 hours and 37 minutes. The game is either longer, or they're still figuring out the glitches to exploit.

I just finished Metroid Prime not a month ago with 100% and got MP2 yesterday for X-Mas. I haven't played it yet, save for the multiplayer. I'll certainly post my thoughts as soon as I have some.

Im picking it up with X-mas money. I've been waiting to play it for ages.
I got Metroid Prime 2 for Christmas. I just got to the dark world. It's a pretty weird place. The game is totally sweet, though.

I've taken a few breaks while playing it (Just due to lack of time to sit down and play for 5 hours or more at a time :( ) But the game is still amazing to me.
The Grapple Gaurdian almost kicked my ass 'till I realized what I was doing wrong

Well, Ai, you have MP2, and I have a DS. I think that's... well no, that's not really fair. But it's close.
I need to buy this game, but I've got WAY too many things that my money has to go to. My breaks are 'bout to go out >_>.
Oh, don't worry. I'm still going to end my life at some point, unless I get a DS within the month. I have a plan I'm going to present to my mom soon that may snatch me one.

I've never really had the chance to complete the first MP but I've had Echoes for quite some time now...I'm about 75% done with it. It's an awesome game. The dark world is a real pain to traverse, but it does give the gamer a good challenge. The graphics are spectacular as well. I've really enjoyed the game so far...no complaints here.

I'm not even to the Dark World yet. 4% :embarass:
Lack of free time is to blame there. The game kicks the first one's ass, and that's saying something since the first one is like the best game this generation (til next Summer *cough* Zelda *cough*) to me.
I made a big mistake today and accidently skipped over getting the light beam and tried to get the dark suit. I went up to the door to open up the arena with the two dark temple keys, and realized I only had one. I thought, "...what the hell?" So I had to go back and at some point, I was gaining back health while I was going to the bathroom, and I came back to see the game over screen. I guess there was something in the room that got me. I didn't save for a while, so I was quite angry. I'm an idiot. Oh well. I'm not sure how far I am, probably over 15%.

i have played the game and i guess i just didnt like it. i guess i must be the only one but oh well. i am gonna sell it back tommorrow i think. i=one of the things i didnt like was the lack of dual analog sticks. so looking around is really anoying compared to other first person shooters. prince of persia rocks though

It's not a first person shooter, and it's not Halo. Halo has dual because there's no lock-on, and because of the multiplayer. Metroid is about the single player experience where you need to concentrate on single enemies using the lock on. It's like Zelda except with a gun and a first person perspective. Halo is a team based shooter which has a focus on the combat, and requires dual analog to look as you shoot. Metroid's single player dosen't need this. It's not about that. It's an adventure where you see the game from the hero's perspective, and concentrate on exploration. Halo is a First Person Shooter where you see the game from the hero's perspective, and concentate on combat. That is where the similarity ends. They are two seperate things entirely.
Comparing MP2 to Halo is like comparing Super Metroid to Contra. Yeah, you have a gun in both, but in Contra, all you do is shoot. In Super Metroid, you explore. Combat is secondary in Metroid, unlike COntra.....and unlike Halo where it's the focus. That's why Metroid Prime 2 and Halo don't share controller schemes, because neither game could work with the opposite scheme (or controller). I rest my case.
Very badass response, TMB. Most of the time, I don't even bother shooting the enemies. I think I've watched too many speed runs of the original Metroid Prime... :ohwell:

Those speed runs are nuts...purly nuts. I don't know how they do it.

I believe speed runs are all fake and are done using a million save states. There's no way a human can play such a perfect game. That being said, they're incredibly entertaining to watch, just because it looks cool. Timed games on the other hand I think are really done by people without cheating.
ThirdMarioBro

You can't save state on a Gamecube. Or any modern console for that matter.

And that sounds like ignorance to me. Maybe NES and SNES games that's possible, but you can't do that with more modern consoles, like TMB said. And now speed running has become a more common thing, and they are actually running the game without save state. They used to do that before, but not anymore.

12-28-2004, 10:43 PM
I was obviously referring to the NES and SNES games. They do mostly save state there, because you can't beat any game without getting hit once, as some of those videos show. I believe the site with all those movies distinctly says so too. Of course, you can't do that for the new systems, because they don't work in the same manner.
Look around here, you'll see differently. (http://www.archive.org/movies/collection.php?collection=speed_runs)

Alright, no problem. So if speed runs are legit, timed games are the ones where they cheat then?
I didn't even know there was a difference. Timed runs and speed runs sound the same in common goal. Either way, if they used emulators, they'd say so in the description.
Back on topic: I just got the dark suit, after my stupid mistake and royally f*cking up that worm. I'm about 20% into the game. I really am enjoying this game, and will probably play it a few times in a row before putting it back on my shelf.

You too the words right outta my mouth TMB. I actually got in an argument with someone over Halo vs. MP. When he started in on EA being one of the best studios around, I should have just blocked him from my list, but it was funny reading about how Halo's so much harder them MP. Then I suggested he do a low percent run, without using any continues. That shut him up pretty quickly.

All the bosses were like that in Prime. Everybody beat the everlovin' sh*t outta you until a lightbulb went off and you realized what to do. The exception would be Meta-Ridley....It's kinda hard not to know how to bean him with missles every five seconds.

I was just happy I didn't break my Gamecube when I had to face Meta-Ridly the first time. He still gives me problems every time I play the game.
Well, I'm watching the speed run of Echoes, and I realized that I'm the worst Metroid player EVER. I've missed so much. Wow, I'm an idiot.

No, I am. I've had to use a guide on Super Metroid for about 80% of what I've played.
I finally got Super Metroid down in my head. I can get 100% in...an hour and a half, I think. That's on a good day, though.

There's probably no game I suck at as much as Metroid Prime. The only thing I did in the game was to search for items, my brother had to beat all the bosses... :(
Though I really love both Metroid Primes, I SUCK at them. I really do. I think I'm some kind of 3D n00b when it comes to exploring places. Especially in an environment where a lot of things are hidden. It was easy to find stuff in Super Metroid because you could basically shoot everything in the room and find something. In the newer games, you actually have to look because the rooms tend to be fairly large. That, and I'm not good enough with the controls.

But unlike me you actually beat the game.
The first Prime took me almost a month to beat. I'd get stuck with no places to go. I refused to look at a guide until I beat it first, then I'd use one and get 100% item collection. Then I started watching speed runs, and now I can beat the game fairly quick. I do a lot of sequence breakers, where I just plain skip areas because they're just not necessary to visit.

I played this yesterday. Just the multiplayer though with my friend. Hes really good at the game so he totally owned me. But then I figured out theres a button that fires super missles that do tons of damage so I kicked his ass in the last few rounds we played. Haha its funny I can win just about every game if I figure just one thing out

Does anyone know what story mode is like? I might get it even though its first person
ThirdMarioBro
01-02-2005, 10:12 PM
The "story" aka Single Player mode, is about an evil race of spider like aliens called the Ing. who have invaded the planet of Athear and split in into a light and dark demintion. Samus is sent there to do the job that a squadron of Glalactic Commandos (who look like they came from Halo....hmmmm) couldn't do. But when you arrive there, Samus meets up with someone who looks just like her. It's the evolved form of the Metroid Prime that took Samus' Phazon suit and cloned her at the end of the first Prime. "She" can kick your ass, but you must kick her's before the planet is ripped in half.
Now go buy it and have fun.
Yeah, what he said.
Buy it and shut up. :D
