Hart Foundation, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Undertaker, Eddie Guererro, Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho, Hulk Hogan, Brutus the Barber Beefcake, Mick Foley, Hacksaw Jim Dugan, Bushwackers. Those are pretty much my favourites that I can think of. I was a major Hulkamania and Hacksaw and Bushwackers fan when I was a kid.

I miss the old school WWF. Things were stupid and fun back then.

I remember Tatanka. He was undefeated until that weird Finnish wrestler Ludvig Borga pinned him with one finger. He fought "The Model" Rick Martel once just to get back his "sacred eagle feathers" and later sold his reservation to Ted Dibiase.

Yes, TMB, the WWF was awesomely stupid and fun back then.

Yep... I mean, where else can you see a sumo wrestle a stereotypical native american?

KROW

The same place where you can see enormously muscle-bound men with painted faces wearing bright red shoulder pads with black spikes.

Lovely.

Oh come on now Tajiri is awesome!

KROW
01-13-2005, 02:46 PM
Tajiri wasn't the first to use the green mist. There was The Great Muta and the friggin' awful Kwang, who was really Savio Vega in a different gimmick.

I loved it when Diesel eliminated Kwang at the '94 Royal Rumble.

Yeah, and where else could a rich white man come out with a black man servant? Now THAT was funny!

Hulk Hogan
Macho Man Randy Savage
The Undertaker

In highschool my nickname was "Mick Foley."

LOL! I remember that! The WWF used to have such funny gimmicks and storylines.

Kwang was bad, I agree. Anyone remember Bastion Booger? Duke "The Dumpster" Drosee? Repo Man? Heh heh... those were the days.

Some of my favorite storylines from that era include: Jake "The Snake" Roberts getting blinded by Rick Martel's perfume spray (forgot what he called it), Marty Janetty getting thrown into the window of Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake's barber shop by Shawn Micheals (the Rockers no more!), and Ultimate Warrior getting stuck in one of Undertaker's coffins (the Warrior then puked up a bunch of yellow stuff while the EMTs were trying to revive him, lol!).

Wasn't the model's perfume called Arrogance?

RVD, Booker T, Eddie Guerro, Chris Beniot, Chris Jericho, Hulk Hogan, Undertaker, John Cena, The Hart Foundation, Kane, Randy Orton, Big Show, Jake 'The Snake' Roberts, Brutus 'The Barber' Beefcake, Roddy Rowdy Piper, HBK, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Goldburg, Ray Mysterio, just to name a slew.

One thing I also noticed today when they showed that old clip of WrestleMania 5 of Rowdy Piper and Morton Downey Jr. (was it?) on Smackdown! tonight, was how much Rowdy Piper reminds me of Jericho. I mean, they look sorta simliar, act alike with similiar personalities, and have the same kinda voice. *sometimes wonder in cases like this if they are related or something* Anywayz....

Why, I do believe you're right, old bean! :D GK is always there to help me whenever my WWF memory goes astray.

I always got a kick of watching Rick Martel spray himself or the crowd with Arrogance. Hilarious stuff!

The only way we'd know for sure is if Jericho started wearing kilts. ;)

1. Hulk Hogan is, and will always be, The Man.
2. Bret Hart. Excellence of Excecution. He made wrestling seem real.
3. Kevin Nash. His wit, JackKnife, and hair were all godlike.
4. Chris Benoit
5. Sting
6. Randy Savage
7. Goldberg
8. Diamond Dallas Page
9. Roddy Piper
10. "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig

Honorable mentions go to Raven, Vader, Chris Jericho, Brian Pillman, and Dean Malenko.

Quick correction:

Muta wasn't the first to spew the dreaded green mist; to the best of my knowledge, Japanese legend The Great Kabuki was the first to do the mist gimmick. At one point I believe the NWA/WCW was claiming that Muta was Kabuki's son (mostly playing up the fact that they both used the mist), however this was not true. Also, Kwang/Savio Vega, never spewed the mist as I recall.

There were also a few other types of mist that Japanese wrestlers would spew besides green, each different color would supposedly have a different effect:

Green mist = blinding
Red Mist = choking
Yellow Mist = produces unpredictable effects, such as blinding, choking, dizziness, etc.
Turqoise mist = releases Scott Hall from the Phantom Zone

Well Leo if anyone had any questions about the various colors of mist is wrestling, you sure as hell answered them. Great post :)

KROW
01-14-2005, 09:02 AM
Damn. I forgot about Kabuki. But Kwang/Savio did use the mist. I remember one incident in the Royal Rumble (circa the mid '90s, the actual year escapes me) he flushed it a Rick Steiner, and it was green.

XERO
01-14-2005, 09:10 AM
Yeah, it was the '94 Rumble, as I mentioned earlier.

Then Owen Hart came out, kicked Rick's ass, threw him out, only to have Deisel come, and eliminated everyone's asses.

Deisel owned the Rumble...until Shawn Michaels came out.

KROW

Yeah, Nash was showing his superiority that year. He eliminated everybody until Macho came out.

'94 was the best year for the WWF to me.

Leo656
01-14-2005, 02:44 PM
Let no one say I don't know that I've been corrected. I guess Kwang/Savio DID spew the mist; I just missed that particular Royal Rumble due to the lack of good video stores around here, and at that point without Hogan around my wrestling fandom wasn't so hot for about a year, so I didn't order it. I've always wanted to see it just for the historical value of the "Diesel Rampage" and the double-winner finish...

Of course, another reason I wouldn't have remembered it is my complete and total avoidance of anything even remotely related to Savio Vega. Seriously, Favorite character to pummel in Street Fighter II? Vega. Why? Cuz I can kinda sorta make believe I'm beating the hell out of a slightly thinner, whiter, more pixelized version of Kwang, that's why. I mean, man, that guy was just awful.

Oh, and I forgot to give The Nature Boy an honorable mention. I hesitate to call him a huge favorite, but he always had good-to-great matches, had awesome psychology, and I could just watch his matches for hours (and have, once the box set came out :D ) . The one with Vader at Starrcade '93 was probably my personal favorite, just for the physicality of it.

Same here. I always thought Capcom named the character Vega in the US because of him. Never liked him since the Street Fighter II Movie (animated). I hate anyone that messes with Chun Li.

Oh, and add Captain Lou Albano to my wrestler list........for obvious reasons. Hell, he's probobly what got me to watch the WWF in the first place. Still, no one touches Hogan.
