Didn't the old school Genesis/Mega Drive Sonic The Hedgehog games just kick total ass! Which one is everyone's favorite? I'm gonna go with Sonic3 & Knuckles, I love the normal Sonic 3 game and with S&K added on to it it's even better! The levels were far better than previous games and the character sprites are the best by far in any Sonic game, really bubbly looking  The music was amazing too, I have all the tracks ripped onto my iPod.

(I'm only including the normal games in this poll, the story driven ones, excluding Sonic 3D cause it's meh)

I just got the Sonic Mega Collection Plus, (the third time I bought the sonic games during my life.)

I love Sonic. The games are so simple, but still so entertaining. Sure, most of the Game Gear ones were absolute, unmitigated crap in it's purest form, but the Genesis games kicked ass. I also loved Sonic Adventure 1 (haven't played 2 yet) and I must attest, the game was fantastic. Personally, the last level with Super Sonic was worth the $50 in itself.

To put it in short: Sonic rocks the Casbah.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was the king of the series. All the others were great as well, but Sonic 2 owned the roost. The music, the speed, the level design, all of it. The game is freaking awesome.

The series' peak in my eyes though is the original Sonic Adventure. That single game was my reason to own a Dreamcast. It just......felt right. The Super Sonic fight, the Wave Master soundtrack. Damn it is awesome. That's why Heroes pisses me off. It's just kiddy. The Adventures were total action, and recaptured the glory of the originals. I want that back. There is a rumor leaking out Sega was making Sonic Adventure 3 for Gamecube, but development has been pushed back to Revolution because of the whole Sammy thing. If Sega is making that game, then I will march my ass up there to Tokyo and kiss their ass and thank them.

For SA3, they need to just have 40 levels or so of Sonic/Shadow, and Tails levels. Knuckles too, but no treasure hunting, and no Mecha walking. No forced team ups.

Why do you guys think Sonic 2 was superior? For my money it was always Sonic 3 & Knuckles combined. More levels, more emeralds, great level design and music, etc. On top of that, you got to fight Knuckles which was bitchin', to say they least.

My favorite Genesis Sonic game (and probably my favorite in the entire series) is Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Excellent music and tons of great levels. The Sonic Adventure series was good also, but it doesn't quite match the fun of the classic side scrollers in my opinion.

Sonic 2 was the very first video game I ever got. I got it on Christmas and it came with the Sega Genesis. For nostalgic purposes Sonic 2 is my favorite. But Sonic 3 & Knuckles is great too. I have Sonic Mega Collection for GameCube and it's so cool. When I was younger I never owned Sonic 1 or Sonic Spinball. Sonic Adventure 2: Battle was the first game I got for GameCube and it's pretty cool. My only gripe w/ SA2:B is that I've had the game for a little over 3 years I think and I STILL am having such a difficult time getting all the stinkin' Emblems! :x

Other than that, great game! :)

Sonic & Knuckles hands down for me! I loved playing that one...excellent levels, music, and story. Biggest complaint, stupid chaos emeralds are hard to get at times (I never could get enough of them to gain the full power)

HOWEVER, Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 are right up there. Sonic 2 was one sucker to beat, especially that EVIL end level on the Death Egg. Of course once you learned the tricks, it was all right...my cousin and I played that game quite a bit and it drove us crazy. Great music.

As for Sonic 3, that was essentially the first chapter of S & K and it was fun. My biggest complaint was that it seemed to fly by so fast and the end boss was weak. Of course, if they'd released S3 + S&K together as planned it would have been TOO long for my tastes...although I have played the lock-on game all the way through. Again, great music.

Sonic 1...I like it for a little bit then it gets on my nerves about halfway through. It's my least favorite but then I didn't play it as aggressively as the others.

Sonic 2 w/ Knuckles...ehhh, seems cool at first but Knuckles does not fare well (love Knuckles tho, don't get me wrong). His jumping is weak and makes some bosses A PAIN to beat.

3. Sonic and Knuckles

I love the SA series.... and though everyone already knows tis, I think SA2 was the best thing that SEGA ever accomplished. >.> <.<
But... if they had more levels... I'd friggin' die of hapiness.
Now, SA3. All it needs is Shadow to be awesome. But.. not... Sonic Heroes Shadow. He acted funny in SH. And he looked funny..... oO; everyone did, 'specially Rouge. I want SA2 Shadow back. T.T And off topic about Sonic DS.... damn.... I wont get to play it for... like 6 years. T___T Noo...

I always felt that Sonic 2 held the title for most difficult emerald stages. S3&K are pretty easy in comparison(for me at least.)

My biggest complaint about any sonic game is the last level of Labyrinth Zone. Robotnik in that level is so mind bogglingly hard! I've never beaten him even after all these years. Every other level is perfectly doable, but Labyrinth will be the literal death of me.

I'm aching for them to release it in another Mega Collection or something. That's the game everyone REALLY wants to play.

Yeah, Sonic CD came out before Sonic 2 as far as I know. I only wanted to include Genesis games in this poll. Sonic CD is on a par with S3&K for me. The whole future/past thing makes it so interesting. I have the original game for the PC and on ISO (same as a ROM, if anyone doesn't know) so I still play it every once in a while. And the music.... fantastic! :D It can be a real challenge trying to re-write the future, especially in later levels like Wacky Workbench.

One game I'm kinda glad wasn't included on the Mega Collection is Knuckles' Chaotix. It's an ok game, but so boring. There's hardly any badniks and it just feels like such a slow game.

Yeah, the Game Gear games are a load of crap, they're unlockable on Sonic Adventure DX.

SonicCD is GREAT. Ok, but I'm not sure what kind of info you want. It takes place on a small planet above Mobius. Time is unstable here and shifts easily. Robotnik has used the time shifts to alter the past, therefore creating a future in his image. Sonic can hit markers in the level, signposts that say future and past. If he keeps his speed up long enough he'll warp through time. Act one and two of every level is split into 4 different time zones:

Past: Mostly organic levels with a few badniks here and there.

Present: Still slightly organic looking, but with more badniks and some more technology.

Bad Future: Pretty much a future destroyed by Robotnik. Totally polluted with lots of badniks.

Good Future: Again, organic looking but with... like... super cool technology, Jetson's style ;)

You start act one and two in the present day. The objective in each level is to travel to the past to destory a robot generator and a Metallix hologram. Once that's done you fix the future of that particular act (getting the Good Future, mentioned above).

On act 3 you start in the future (Good or Bad, depending on if you changed the previous two acts) and you pretty much just fight Robotnik.

The overall objective is to make a Good Future in all levels, and to collect all the Time Stones. I think there's seven of them and they replace the Chaos Emeralds in this game. You get them by playing a totally awful 3D style level. You chase down floating robots in a little arena. You are being timed for this and stepping in the puddles makes your time go down faster. This Special Stage is really the only bad thing about this game, the controls are unresponsive and the whole thing just seems off.

The levels are well made too and they shift around depending on the time zone. In Tidal Tempest the water level gets higher and higher the further you go into the future.

Here's a brief description of the levels:

1. Palmtree Panic - A Green Hil Zone type level, not too difficult.

2. Collision Chaos - Still a lot like Green Hill Zone with a bit of the Carnival and Casino levels from previous games mixed in.

3. Tidal Tempest - A water level (obviously :P ). Finding the Metallix hologram can be a bit tricky. It's probably closest to the look of Labyrinth Zone from Sonic 1.

4. Quartz Quadrant - This level takes place underground mostly, but isn't at all like Mystic Cave Zone. There are conveyer belts on the floor which you can change direction with a switch.

5. Wacky Workbench - The most annoying level in the game. The floor in this level is a weird pulsing.... thingy which shoots you up into the air whenever you land on it, and it pretty much covers the whole level. You hafta traverse gangways and platforms a lot of the time. There's really only one chance to get to the past here, and it's very tricky. When I replay the game this is the level I usually stop playing at because it's so irritating.

6. Stardust Speedway - A lot like Star Light Zone. The boss is really cool, you have a race with Metallix instead of fighting Robtonik.

7. Metallic Madness - Your typical final level type deal. I don't remember this one too well, it's been years since I've played it.

That's all the levels, and there are two endings in total.

The music is amazing, I have it on my iPod I like it so much. It has the Sonic sound but is closer to a real song, because the game is played off a CD and not a cartridge. There are background vocals on some tracks and some of the tunes are really upbeat! If you download the game the tracks have to be downloaded seperately and placed in the same folder as the ISO, otherwise you'll play the game in complete silence for the most part. There are different tracks for the European and US vesions, I'm pretty sure I have the EU ones.

I hope that's enough info, I didn't really know what to talk about! Oh, and Amy makes her only 16bit appearance 8)

Sonic CD owned all when it was released. It's the only reason I bought a Sega CD. I'd killed the PC version, but it was so kickass that I had to have the original release. I tell you all, at least buy the PC version. You'll have an excellent time. Best 2D Sonic ever.

And Brodie, the reason they didn't put it in the Mega Collections was pure laziness. In fact, Sonic Team reportably paid the people who made the fan made emulator Dgen, and improved it a little. I noticed some sound bugs here and there (Genesis music is HARD to emulate). The Sega CD has never been emulated properly. There are some that work, but not well, so Sonic Team skimped on the game since they didn't want to waste money making their own. If fact, there are proven records that they attempted to recompile the code in the game and port it to the disc rather than emulate it, but it took too long and they just wanted the quick buck. That's why the opening and ending videos were there. Thus it remains a lost classic. As much as I hate to admit it, they could have put it in the PS2 version (I don't care *hugs Sega CD*), but the fact that they didn't a WHOLE YEAR LATER proves they didn't give a damn and just wanted a quick compliation buck. It pisses me off. Sonic Jam on Saturn was a better deal anyway. THey put more work in it, re-compiled the game code (they play better than on Genesis) and added the Spin dash to Sonic 1. It also had better extras such as rare videos and commercials, plus a custom made cartoon that has never been seen since. It's rumored that it was a pilot for a failed anime. It would have kicked ass.

Buy Sonic Jam and a Sega CD with Sonic CD. You'll be a happy camper.

What's that other Sega CD game people love to death? Nights into Dreams, right?

Since Sega didn't put Sonic CD on the Mega Collection, and there aren't enough Sonic games left to fill up another Mega Collection, why don't they just release a Sega CD Collection or something?

Just put together the three Sonic Team games that came out on the Sega CD that everybody loves. Sonic CD, Nights into Dreams and, what, Burning Rangers? It's a thought. I'd like to see Sonic CD get a release of some kind in the future, that's the game everybody wants.

NiGHTS into Dreams was a Saturn game. The only other Sega CD game worth owning was Night Trap and that's just for the laughability of it. Don't feel bad for mixing the two up. It's hard to remember all those systems from that age:)

Well, NiGHTs is cameoed in Sonic a lot, but that's just Naka's doing. They really have no relation, and he commonly states that he dosen't want to port the game and risk messing it up, or because the current gaming populace might reject it because it's so different, and I totally understand that. Burning Rangers was a completely different thing altoghether. It was about Fire Fighters if memory serves. The only other Sonic games on Saturn were Sonic R, Sonic 3D Blast, and Sonic Jam. Sonic R was an original foot based racing game, but it's completely arcaharic by modern standards and kinda sucked anyways. The music is great though. Sonic 3D Blast's Genesis version was already in the first Mega Collection, and Sonic Jam itself was just another compliation disc featuring Sonic 1, 2, 3, and Kunckles + plus the lock on versions (though the game was actually better than Mega Collection).

It won't happen, but theoretically if they wanted to release another collection, they could use Sonic R, Sonic CD, Sonic The Fighters (Ultra rare arcade Sonic arena fighting game released in Japan), Sonic Shuffle (Dreamcast Mario Party Clone. Good game, but killed by loading times, but could work great with Gamecube's loading), and Sonic Arcade (a SUPER rare prototype Sonic isometric arcade game only test marketed in the US). Plus there is assloads of other things they could release as extras, even though they won't. They'd have to program an emulator for each one of those games, and each was on some of the hardest hardware to emulate in history. I'd cost too much for them to bother since it's meant as a budget title. The games should be given a chance to shine for all the people who never played them, but alas it probobly won't happen. Maybe they'll prove me wrong. I hope they do.

But I'd still rather just have Sonic Adventure 3. That new season of Sonic X has got to be used to promote something dosen't it?

Ah, it ws a Saturn game. I knew it was one or the other, I get them confused a lot since I had niether system (I had a 32X, go me!).

I had heard that Yuji Naka objected to the release of NiGHTS for some reason. It's a shame, as I want to play it but I have no interest in buying the cruddy system just to do so. I'm hoping at some point down the line he'll come to his senses; it's a very sought-after game.

I've heard various thngs about the quality of Burning Rangers. I just figured since it's a Sonic Team game it would fit in. Thanks.

Sonic 2 (Megadrive/genesis) is the best old schooler. Nothing beats the Chemical Plant Zone ;) Sonic Adventure 2 is the best New Gen game.

They reason they don't update the music, is because the re-released games are based on emulators. That's why they're exactly the same as the old versions. They did the same on the Dreamcast when they released the Sega Smash PAck... then someone hacked it so you could play any MEgadrive rom on it... hehehe.

Yeah 3rd MArio Bro... the Saturn is a great system... has one of the best game line-ups of all time... but that doesn't seem to count for anything these days... look at the Dreamcast, and now the Gamecube.... sad really. ;)

I was wondering... a long time ago, I downloaded this demo on my computer..

It was a sonic game, but it was in 3D! Sonic had to go around and fight the robots (badniks?) to free these little birds trapped inside and lead them to some kind of superrings to end the level. If I recall, the game was set up similiarily to the classics.. two "levels" (I forgot what they're called" and a boss level in each zone.

What is it? Is it good? Classic? Is this the Sonic CD you guys've been tlaking about?

Pity that demo is gone.. was always fun to play!

The reason Saturn failed they came out to early before the other 2 consoles came out.Other factors Playstation was the in thing at this time. Also bad sales in North America.

They had a decent Game selection but nobody was buying it.Word of mouth also factors in this.Dreamcast didnot stay in the console wars. Now Sega is making games for other compaines.
