Thanks for posting that Kazari! That does look awesome! I wonder if that means Don and Raph will be on the Season 3 box art

Speaking of...
The first Season came out 4-20-2004
This new one comes out 4-26-2005
So I guess we can expect Season 3 sometime April '06
How many seasons of the orgnial show are there? Maybe they will start putting out the seasons faster if there are alot. One a year might take awhile

I wouldn't consider the cover art that great but it is indeed better than the featured art for Season One's release.

At first I thought that cover art was terrible with the weird orange background, but when I enlarged the picture (I first saw this on dvd empire) it doesn't actually look too bad, the only beef I have with it is that it looks like a combination of the new style turtles and the old ones. Like they took the new style turtles and added the older colors. Their heads are a bit too small, but that's just the perfectionist in me speaking. This dvd is going to be AMAZING especially if they keep with the full season sets! Doesn't matter if they're out of order since there's really no ongoing story most of the time, but just to have them all together as part of a season is great.

Isn't it obvious? They're trying to make the Turtles look more serious, to appeal to the kids watching the new Turtle show.

The Season 1 DVD had the TMNT looking a little TOO "happy and goofy" looking. This Season 2 cover makes them look a bit more serious, so an 8 year old watching TMNT on Cartoon Network will be interested in seeing the old series based on the cover art.

It's all marketing. Why do you think the back of the Season 1 DVD had the first two lines of the new show theme song?

They're trying to get the kids watching the new TMNT today, to buy the old toon DVDs.

Season Two is pretty damn thrilling to an extent, so the serious look of the cover is a neccesity either way

I fully agree except the old toon was "happy and goofy" after the second and third seson it pretty much went on without much fighting. So kid's today that are watching the new too with the "Serious" tone might be dissapointed with the goofyness.

Yes, but kids today don't know what the old toon was like. Kids today would simply look at the cover of the DVD and think the TMNT will act just like the ones in the new show.

That's the whole reason the art of the DVD mimics the new toons art. They're not only trying to get older fans to buy the DVD for nostalgia, but they want to target to kids as well.

They probably realized the mistake in making the TMNT look too "happy" on the Season 1 boxart.

Not bad for the box art. Definetely better than the first season but I still don't understand why they couldn't just use some of the good art they had. The artist ho drew this was pretty lame. Honestly, there are better artists than that, especially ones that don't have to trace over curent illustrations  Anyway, I'll stil pick this up but I don't understand why the majority of 80's cartoon have the cheapest, least imaginative art. it was the best decade for cartoon and they can't come up with anything better? Don't get it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm defenitely picking this baby up. Its just a shame that classic 80's cartoons get no justice when it comes to DVD releases. They're treated like trash.

I like Hanna Barabara's boxes. They have the plastic cell covering as well as colorful character art that goes all the way around the box. Flinstones, Jetsons. I thought about picking these up just because they have so much appeal let alone their classics as well.

Last time I checked, the Transformers box sets were given a lot of good features and extras...

The extras features were great but where are the commercials? Every fan would have loved watching the commercials and that itself would have been nirvana to fans. The boxes themselves were alright but plain. Aside from them being so fragile that every finger nail mark or scratch gets magnified 10 times. They screwed up the intro for Season One by adding extra effects as well as adding extra mistakes on some of the episodes. The art work within the box was also a let down. I still enjoy watching them but I think they could have done better.

I heard news about this, and sounds good to me. I knew there'll be a season DVD of TMNT old series.

I know I never seen these episodes before. I can see this is the season when they start to show more mutated animals and first debut of Irma.

I'm surprise they're able to fit 13 episodes into on disc, mostly you see 2 discs with that many over 13.

Anyways I'll sure to get it around Easter and end up having 22 episodes in total on DVD! :D

Hey. I saw this awhile back and I was able to order it for $9.99 from some site. I read in the article that the episode on season 2 will be in order by production and it will be labled volumne 2 because they will be doing volumne sets from now on because the season are 2 big. Season three and probly the next couple will be broken into volumes. Can't wait till 4/26/05

Deathknight
02-12-2005, 09:09 PM
Hopefully not too many volumes. I really don't want to be buying 4 or more volumes for a season. The Gi Joe seasons were just as big and they were divided into 2 parts each which sounds about right to me for TMNT.

I hope we don't have to wait another year to get season three. It would be cool if they had like Season Three Volume 1, released in October and Season Three Volume 2 released in like February/March. :tthumbsu: I don't see why they can't just have more than one disk either. Season two is listed as coming with 2 disks, according to tvshowsondvd anyway.

Now that it looks like the first release was popular enough to warrant more, one DVD a year is kinda long to wait for a show that went as long as TMNT went and you're wanting to complete the series. Awesome to be getting the DVDs, so many eps I forget or some I havent even seen. I love watching them all again! :tcool:

The 289 min DVD will include English stereo sound, and a 1.33:1 picture. DVDEmpire has cover art on their site, but we'll try and get some unmodified artwork from Lions Gate directly. We were unable to get ahold of anyone at the studio to ask about special features; DVDEmpire doesn't list any. The SRP for the disc is $14.98, though Empire is preselling it for just $9.89.

1/30/2005

Just a few days ago we pleased to pass along info posted at DVDEmpire.com about the second DVD release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the original 1987 series). According to the online e-tailer, it arrives on April 26th at an SRP of $14.98, but you can pre-order it right away for a mere $9.89!

The listing at DVDEmpire shows cover art that says "Season 2", and lists a 289 minute run time for 13 episodes. We headed over to EpGuides.com and verified that the 2nd season did indeed show only 13 episodes, the same ones we listed last time in airdate order. But now Lions Gate has provided front and rear cover art for this release, and there were three things of interest that were revealed:

1) instead of calling this "Season 2", the box reveals that the accurate title is going to be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Volume 2 instead. Considering that the 3rd season ramps up to 47 epsiodes, and the per-season episode count is erratic from year to year, it makes sense that Lions Gate would plan to break the future releases into "Volumes" rather than "Seasons".

2) The listing of episodes on the back of the box shows that these will be ordered on the DVD by production date, rather than airdate.

3) There will be no bonus episodes or any other special features on this release, which differs from the first DVD.

Deathknight
02-13-2005, 07:47 PM
No special features? Oh come on, what a rip off. Oh well, at least we're getting the eps. Next time, they should interview David Wise or some of the other writers.

Be greatful the original cartoon is coming to DVD in the first place, Artisan could have just stopped after the first DVD, but because of good sales it seems that they're continuing the series. Extras are a dream though.

I bet Season 3 will be broken into two seperate DVD releases though, there are over 35 episodes.

Well, tvshowsondvd still have volume two listed as a two disk set, you never know what can show up. http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/releaseinfo.cfm?ReleaseID=4515

I'd love to see all of season three come out at once on a multiple disk set and if not, at least have it where we don't have to wait so long for the next. Have volume 3 and 4 come out in the same year or better yet, something like volume 2 and 3 this year and 4 and 5 in 2006!

I think that Volume 2 or Season 2 of the old toon is going to be all 13 eps, and if you read the reviews on the sites telling about the dvd they say its season 2, and season 1 was volume 1. Jeesh some people are never happy.

I have two-disc Bucky O'Haire and Visionaries DVDs, and the only extras on them are crappy biographies and the episode scripts, the CGI Bucky O'Harie short did'nt even come with the set I had.

Where did you get the Buckey O Hare. That was one of my favorites growing up.

But the question is can it make up for how bad the movies were last year? Probly not lol
But 2005 is looking promiseing. I mean DMC 3 and RE 4 in the same year. Not to mention all the TMNT DVDs and suchs. Pretty cool

Don't forget the first DVD had some new tmnt's theme song lyrics on the back....the 3rd season will have the new toon logo at this rate....:(

They better not change the old logo to the new logo that would suck and it would confuse us a lot especially for those who only want the old toon.
